Swimming costumes
Does anyone know where I can buy swimming costumes from? I've had a look on the JJB and JD Sports websites but they don't have any. I just want something I can wear to the local swimming pool in an attempt to get fit but I want it to be a young one not something my granny would wear but again I don't want a bikini as I'm slightly overweight and I just think it looks silly to wear something so skimpy to a swimming pool like they do on Hollyoaks!
Can anyone suggest a good shop to try? Thanks
Answer:
TK Maxx if there's one near you. I always seem to find something in there, and they have some unique colours designs, but still by brands like nike/speedo etc.
Answer:
Have you tried www.figleaves.com
They have some I think
Answer:
Thanks for those suggestions. I'll give TK Maxx a look tomorrow. I don't want anything too sporty though so its really hard to know what I want. I always wear bikinis on the beach and I've put on a lot of weight since then so its hard finding a swimming costume.
What are peoples views on tankinis?
Answer:
Tankinis look nice, although personally I prefer a proper swimsuit for serious swimming as they feel more supportive and I don't need to worry about anything opping out (a lot of tankinis I've seen have later neck or spaghetti straps).
Figleaves have a huuuge selection though, so trawl through there.
(Isn't it silly that I'm giving you advise yet had to ask for help looking for a bikini earlier? :D)
How long did it take you?

To get used to wearing high heels?;)
Answer:
With wee short legs (see earlier thread!) I got used to it pretty quickly! I used to wear block heels mostly, but eventually got onto stilettoes. I wore them round the flat a lot to start with, and did a few kung-fung-esque kicking exercises (!) - after that I had no problems!

Answer:
The chunky block heels were very easy to wear compared to the stiletto version, even at the same height!
Answer:
I'm used to stilettos now, so I'm OK, but if I don't wear them for a few months, I do wobble a bit for the first few strides...

Answer:
Are you a shoe fetishist or something? You don't appear to have posted much and what you have seems to be about shoes/high heels
Surreal and glamorous?
NO.3. ask :
Surreal and glamorous?
Hi ladies
I'm out tonight, sort of work related-ish and the dress code is surreal and glamorous, any ideas of what to wear? I have a few ideas but don't know anyone else going so can't check with them and I'm worried I've got the wrong end of the stick!
Thank you!
Answer:
Ehm - do they mean like surreal and glamourous in one outfit or either surreal OR glamorous? The latter would be easy - just go glam. But together?! What like a glamorours alien?!
Answer:
Whoever thought that up should be shot :lipper:
Answer:
I have no idea! I think I'm just gonna go glam, surreal is conjuring up images of Rene Magritte pintings in my head - no faces :cmeek:
Answer:
buy a headband, get some sort of inappropriate object and attach it (in a glamorous way of course, be inspired by Isabella Blow's Philip Treacy hats). a plastic lobster or a set of lips, hey even just some with goggly eyes on stalks perched jauntily, and wear with a glamorous outfit. The headband can always be ditched if you feel uncomfortable.
Or you could carry a posy of vegetables instead of flowers ? or a rubber chicken poking out of your here ?
(i like the theme, but then I am a saddo who loves themes, dressing up and am fond of surrealism).
Tate is having a surrealism exhibition on and the VA has just finished one - maybe the gallery shops will have something you could wear/use ?
Belts
NO.4. ask :
Belts
I need to buy a belt but don't know where to start!
I admit, I'm a bit of a belt virgin and don't own one nor can I remember ever wearing one.
I need a casual one to go with jeans and (black) combat pants. I think I'm slowly losing weight (hooray!) and both my new pairs of jeans and combats are starting to feel slightly loser.
Anyone got any good links to sites, or any ideas....obviously a black belt won't have the same effect as a pink one, but would that look too erm...weird?!
HELP ME!!
Answer:
I bought a tan leather woven one in Oasis a couple of months ago.
It's quite wide so it won't go through jeans loops. It was a really good buy as it just seems to go with everything.
I quite wanted to get a vintage / second hand one but they are all so tiny. Think people had smaller waists in the past to now!

My mum's old belts are all too small for me too but I like to think that it's because when she was young, women wore their belts around their waists rather than around their hips which we tend to do :p
I agree with looking in Oasis and Topshop. I've seen quite a few nice ones in both shops. Can't really give any tips. If you see one you like, then try it on with your outfit and do some experimenting :)
Ball dresses
NO.5. ask :
Ball dresses
Hey, today I went dress shopping for a ball at the end of April and all the dresses I tried on made me look pretty fat, only around my stomach though:( But anyway, its okay because I'm going running tonight...
What I really would like to ask for though is if anyone has an ideas of a place that does nice ball dresses in Scotland, preferably on the East coast but I'm visiting Glasgow next month anyway so I can look there!
Thanks ever so much for any help at all X
Answer:
Well, apart from the usual department stores, there used to be a little designery ballgown-type boutique place on the Grassmarket in Edinburgh, at the far end towards Lothian Road. Not been that way in yonks, though, so I don't know if it's still there.
Answer:
TK Maxx, fab dresses at low prices - If you're worried about your stomach area try and find a bias cut one (cut just below the boob) they hold shape well and look elegant:)
Answer:
The last time I was in the TK Maxx in Edinburgh the posh frocks were all vile - nasty nylony things in the most hideous colours.
Maybe it's just round here, though :D
Answer:
I would try the typical department stores. I'm not sure about the stores in Scotland being a londoner but I found these which are nice:
