Where can I find one of these?

NO.1. Ask :
Where can I find one of these?
OK, I don't know the proper name but it's a hook for fastening coats. etc.
On one side you have a d shaped piece of metal and on the other you have a hinged piece, you feed the hinged pieced through the D shape and fold it back to secure it. Does that make sense?
Hopefully all will be clear to someone, if so please could you point me in the direction of where to buy replacements.

Answer:
I think it's called a "Furrier's Hook" as they're used for fastening fur coats - have you got a local haberdashers? Or you could try that company that sell all the corsages and stuff......name has gone right out of my napper.....
Answer:
Thanks Vicki, I forgot about V V Rouleaux, I'll have a look at their site in a minute.
Now I've got a proper name for it, the job should be much easier.
Thanks again.
Answer:
A good haberdashers or john lewis would've been my first stop for something like this... but I didn't know what the correct name for this was either.

    NO.2. ask :
    Help me find some sunglasses....please?
I am hoping to go on a sunny break at the end of April and want to get some new sunglasses. I have a tendency to lose, sit on them, scratch them, bend them etc so I don't really want to pay over £40 if I can help it. Trouble is, I don't know what's in and whats not - can anyone help me please so I don't end up looking a complete idiot. I looked on ebay but now feel even more confused!!
    Thanks....in advance.
    Answer:
I purchased a pair of Prada sunglasses last year! I left them on the train:faint:
That was on day two! After screaming my eyes out i decide River Island was the way forward. Cheap Cheerful and they look good to!
And more importaintly I will feel like killing myself for loosing them:yay:
Oh Boots have quite a good range too:)
    Answer:
I got these ones recently from Next -
    I love them :great:
    Answer:
Was a big fan of my Fabris Lane ones from Boots (about £35-40) until I stood on them whilst pissed and snapped them right in two. Was not a big fan of that.
Got myself down to good ole' Marksies and bought a practically identical replacement pair for £15 - result!
Moral of the tale - both Boots and Marksies have an excellent selection for various prices, and don't leave your sunnies on the floor whilst battered.
    :)
    Answer:
Never thought of MS (in fact I didn't even know they did them). I like those Next ones - they are sort of shiney which I wasn't sure about. Didn't want to look like one of those motorcycle cops in CHIPS (showing my age there - anyone under 35 probably won't have a clue what I'm on about) :)
    Thanks for the advice!

    NO.3. ask :
Getting lily pollen out of top
I know this isn't strictly fashion, but it was the forum that seemed the most closely related!
I accidently got lily pollen on one of my fave white tops last week. I removed the powder using sellotape, then put it in a cool wash. It's come out of the wash with yellow stains where the pollen was.
Does anyone know how I can get rid of the stains?
    Answer:
I don't know off the top of my head, but I do have a book on stains at home (believe it or not!) and I will be back there tomorrow so I will have a look what it says for you if you like. HTH!:)
    Answer:
    Hi there
just to let you know i understand your pain :( the same thing happened to me on my winter white coat and i nearly cried!! Anyway the good news is - i sent it to the dry cleaners and it came back absolutley perfect :)

    Answer:
I don't think this works after, but this is usefull knowledge for if this happens again.
    Do not touch pollen.
Get someone to hoover it off
    With the nozzle of course!!!!!
    It really works.

  • Can you dye cord?

    NO.4. ask :
    Can you dye cord?
I know its cotton... but I was wondering, can you dye cord?
I have a slate- grey/ blue skirt that I won't wear as it goes with nothing I have at all (except white and black) was a bargain (so I thought) in the sales, but I want to dye it dark brown or black so it goes with more stuff...
    thanks :)
    Answer:
I've never tried myself but I reckon you can as it is cotton - i'm not sure how effectively you'll be able to dye the cord pile though :uzzle: should be ok, otherwise it might come out quite unique... got nothing to lose I guess.
    Answer:
    Thanks Yingers, so annoying...
I saw it in the shop and thought ooooh thats nice, didn't even think if it went with any of the stuff I have. Its such a wierd shade it looks wrong with everything!!
I will give it a go.... :D Do you think the ones you put in the washing machine would be ok??
    Answer:
It will be fine if it's 100% cotton. The only issue you may have is that the thread used to sew it together is unlikely to be 100% cotton so it will not take the dye in the same way so if there is any top stitching it will show up. I suggest you use machine dye - a lot less mess and don't forget to buy the salt, it's so annoying to get home dying to dye only to find you don't have 500g or what ever it is of salt.
    Answer:
Oh yes!!! thats a lot of salt isnt it, thanks PM!! Will get dye and salt tomorrow!!! :D

    and what are they called?
    Answer:
I think it's an embellished tippet... but soz bird, dunno where you can find one of these now.
    Answer:
why o why didn;t i buy one when i first saw them...i do this every time!!
ahh well i have me new wrap dress to wear tomorrow so it's not all bad i suppose!
    Answer:
Primark had some - without the fringing and nowhere near as lovely or ornate and vintagey, but they're not bad for a tenner :) They definitely had some sage green ones and I *think* they had some black ones too.
    g_k
    Answer:
Thay had some very similar in the debenhams, online Sale earlier in the week. They are not online anymore (I think they were one of the designers @ Debs)
If you have a store closeby perhaps you could pop in, they may have some left?
    Could be worth a try.
