New Skirt -totally unlike anything else I have so...
......the inevitable question - what do I wear with it?
The skirt is very much like the one in the picture below but is a darker green and has a nicer belt thing.
It looks ok with my beige Ugg type boots and a fluffy polo neck while the weather is still cold and also with a brown vest and some flat brown sandles for summer.
Because it's a new shape and style for me I'd like to pick the collective fashion brain of the here fashion forum so any other ideas would be welcome!
Thanks
JT
Answer:
Shoe-wise I would definitely wear indian khussa shoes with it or some nice flat toe-post sandals. Top wise, I would layer a couple of tops over it like my really thin hm ones.
I'm useless at this kind of thing... sorry :(
Answer:
Nice skirt - I think it'll be pretty versatile. I imagine you could make it quite girly or edge it up a bit with the right accessories.
Flats would be great, although I'd also wear sandal wedges with it (but in the summer I wear wedges with everything  ). For tops, I'd stick to something fairly close fitting (or at least belted) - maybe layer tops, as Yingers suggested, or wear a T shirt or a vest with a shrug (maybe a sparkly one to girly the whole look up!) or pretty cardigan over. I think it would also look nice with a denim jacket and a white or brown vest with maybe a funky belt slung round your hips. Because it's quite simple, you could also wear a patterned or detailed top with it, maybe one of the heavily detailed ethnic-look tops that are out this season?
No more ideas, sorry!

Answer:
I think that skirt will come into its own in summer. You could wear simple vest tops with it, get a nice disc belt that hangs down across your hips and some flat thong shoes.
Not sure what you could wear with it in this freezing weather though...
Answer:
It's definitely the kind of skirt you'd get lots of wear out of in the summer - the other girls suggestions are really good! I haven't got many ideas for this time of year apart from long boots - perhaps some round toe high heeled boots and a snuggly fitted jumper or fitted shirt, with a nice blazer in a contrasting colour and a bright scarf.

Geisha Girl
NO.3. ask :
Geisha Girl
Yet another fancy dress question. Me and my friends are taking part in a slave auction for Red Nose Day. We're putting a twist on the cowboys and indians theme (someone else beat us to signing up, grr) with geisha girls and....I've forgotten the word...guys fighting each other to rescue us :yay:
But anyway, I have no idea what to wear. I can't really afford to buy anything expensive. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me?
Thanks, BB x
Answer:
This is a really expensive look to do!
Geisha women wear several layers of petticoates with a kimono over the top. They also wear a type of wedged shoe, normally with white socks. There's the obligatory slinky black hair with ornaments in too.
If you can find some kind of long slinky dress that looks fairly oriental then wear that with some wedged sandals. You'll probably need a black wig, or put your hair into a chingon and buy some of those hair sticks Claire's Accessories sell for about £2. Most importantly you need some white face paint to whiten your face, with pink blusher, some black eyeliner and bright red lipstick which doesn't cover your entire mouth. If you google for a picture you'll find some to give you a better example!

Thank you so much.
However they've all changed their minds again now  so god knows what I'll have to be.
Buying from Next online question
NO.4. ask :
Buying from Next online question
If I want to buy something online from Next, is there any way to do it without having to subscribe to the Next Directory?
I don't want the Directory, I don't want to pay £3.50 for it, I just want to buy some jogging pants online today!
Any suggestions?
Answer:
I think you only have to pay the £3.50 if you choose to have a catalogue sent out to you. They shouldn't charge you that fee if you simply make an online order.
Answer:
Yeah you can order from the website without them sending you the directory, I order from them all the time and dont get the directory sent out, you might have to phone them and tell them you dont want the directory sent to you.
Answer:
I was told that you have to set up an account, and that you got the Directory as part of the account for £3.50 - they obviously tell different people different things
Answer:
Thanks for your replies.
I went on the website, chose some items, went to checkout-oops, have to register first  and one of the conditions you HAVE to tick is that you agree to having the Spring/summer directory sent to you and be charged £3.50 for it.
I tried NOT ticking it but I kept getting an error message and told that not all fields were filled in
SO do you think if I ring them I could do it?
I know I could go to my local Next shop and order something thru them, but it is a PITA to get there.
Besides, what is the point of having an online shop if shoppers can't shop??
I'll ring them and let you all know!

Wearing brown
NO.5. ask :
Wearing brown
I have just ordered a chocolate brown top that I hope to wear with dark jeans. Can I still wear black boots/shoes, coat and bag with this or should they be changed to brown too. If I can't find a choc brown coat will beige look ok? (I have a beige blazer type jacket?)
I can't seem to find a decent choc brown evening bag or shoes/boots though can anyone help? I am tall so can only wear shoes with mid heels....
thanks x
Answer:
Ah, the old brown/black debate!
In my book, wearing black with brown is fine, as long as you observe certain rules. Tan/chestnut with black is the easiest to wear (and can look very chic); the darker the brown the more care you need to take (at least in my humble view). Dark jeans, black boots and a chocolate brown jumper sounds fine, but I'd take a bit of care with accessories. If I'm wearing black or brown boots with a predominantly brown or black outfit, I make sure I have (say) a belt or scarf in the same colour as the boots to tie the colours together a bit. A black coat, boots and here with the jeans and jumper could look too sombre - I'd also avoid wearing all brown versions (especially if you're a brunette!) unless you go for something in tan or chestnut. I usually stick to a tan here with a brown/black outfit, but I have been known to carry a turquoise one too - but then I am a bit mad!
I think your beige jacket and black boots could look nice, especially with a shot of colour in the form of a pretty scarf (green, turquoise, pink or orange maybe) and funky belt. A brown here would look fine with that, but if you were feeling adventurous, you could try matching your here to your scarf!
Hmm. Hope that helps a little - I'm up to my eyeballs in equations and my brain is starting to pull silly faces

Answer:
I agree with pretty much everything g_k says. I also find you can get away with the chocolate-black plus jeans combination by breaking it up a bit with another colour e.g. dusty pink, pale blue, turquoise, pistachio or teal. I wouldn't wear a chocolate top with black trousers, as (in my very humble opinion! :) ) that would be too dark. Belts and scarves are an inexpensive way to try out new colours, so you could just experiment a bit and see what works for you. Hope this helps - k x
Answer:
I kind of understood all that....!!
So do you reckon- would black boots, dark jeans, brown top, beige jacket and black bag look ok?
