How can I look stylish and be comfortable??

NO.1. Ask :
How can I look stylish and be comfortable??
Ok fashion goddesses, I need your advice.
I am getting to the point where I want to be comfortable but still look good.
I find jeans and any remotely high waisted trousers uncomfortable, also tops that are tight, boots, jackets, belts, anything remotely fashionable :o
I was thinking something along the lines of nice jogging pants and some sort of semi fitted top without resorting to a big baggy jumper or mumsy fleece  with trainers of course :p
So where should I shop and what should I look for?
Please don't try talking me out of it or think that I am a fashion-traitor ;), I am a mum with 2 kids doing the school run, working from home and living in a town that fashion passes by -I need practical comfort and I can't fight it anymore! At the same time, I am only 32 with young children, I consider myself modern, creative and energetic and I don't want to look frumpy, mumsy or boring!!
Thanks

Answer:
what do you find uncomfortable about all the items you listed? Surely it just means you aren't wearing the correct size etc.
Personally I would never say that jogging bottoms ever look fashionable (unless you a teenager)..........have you tried fitted combats? Or some nice cropped trousers?
Its hard to give advice of this kind, without pictures etc......maybe just go into a shop and try a load of new stuff on?

Thanks Rhiannonjodie, you are so right!
I probably am not geting the right sizes for a start :o and I know deep down in my fashion heart that jogging bottoms can't really be fashionable
Fitted combats are a good idea-I do actually have a great pair that fit reallyw ell and are comfortable, Id forgotten about them!
Thanks for replying

Hi BL,
I can empathise with you - I spend a lot of my time at work on my feet so it's imperative that I wear comfy things! Here are some things off the top of my head:
*hipster stretch cords - really comfy and warm (!)
*jeans - I know you said you didn't find these comfy but I've heard Gap's left weave are soft and lovely
*fitted zip-up (even fleece ;) ) hoodies - can be very flattering if the cut is good and are very versatile
*trainers - puma mostro's are very comfy, puma klima's are also cute. I bought a pair of black trainer/ballet pumps from Gola, which I think will be nice and versatile in spring
*baggy wide trousers in fairly smooth jersy fabric - I once found some from MS that were wonderful. If the trousers are flared at the bottom it makes them quite flattering and they'll work well with fitted tops. But get ones with a flat-lying waist - avoid a gathered or drawstring waist!!
Answer:
When I'm in that sort of a mood (can't be bothered trying to be fashionable, need comfort and warmth !), but don't want to look too frumpy, I always put on one of these types of jumpers...

They're really soft and cosy but the material's quite thin so you won't get too hot and won't look mumsy, but it's fitted so it'll still keep you warm, and they go with everything including jeans, normal trousers, combats, skirts, etc.

tonight im planning on wearing my fav dark blue jeans with black fitted jacket and grey printed top. with my black little pumps and dark blue and grey chunky scarf. what do you think? its so hard in this horrible weather. what are you going to be wearing on your night out tonight?
    Answer:
Sounds great... go for it... although if it was me I would add a touch of sparkle like a small diamante brooch or swap the chunky scarf with a skinny glittery or sequin scarf. You can wear the chunky scarf over that but take it off with your coat when indoors.
    Answer:
    Last Night
I went for jeans (Miss Sixty), heels - these (beneath), grey fur jacket (Zara), n cashmere sweater (plum coloured) - also my La Perla underwear (you never know!!). I actually love dressing for the colder weather.

I have to dress up for work so at weekends I slob around in trackies, jammies, no makeup. When I go out I just drag on whatever is easiest. Please tell me I am not the only one :boohoo:
    Answer:
Nope, I'm the same. I spend all weekend in jeans, vest and hoody with Havs if its warm and Uggs if its cold.

    Opinion on a top
1 Attachment(s) I bought this top today to wear out tonight, just with some jeans. Thing is I'm going out with friends who LOVE black, and I worry that the comments I know they'll make on the pattern might make me feel self conscious? Do you think it'll look OK with jeans, a cream bag and shoes? I'm so indecisive! Personally I love the pattern, and I normally hate things like this, so I thought it must be OK, but my mum thinks it looks like a 1970s curtain!?!
    Answer:
It's not about what your friends think, it's about whether you like it or not. If you like it, wear it with confidence, I think it'll go well with jeans and a few accessories. It shouldn't matter what your friends think. If you know you look good in it, that's all that matters.
    Answer:
I think your top is lovely.
Your outfit sounds great. Perhaps olive green (yet more colour for your friends heheheh..!) accessories could look nice with it.

I know what you're saying is SOOOOOOOO right, but sometimes I think it's easier said than done? Different group of friends and I'd feel fine, but these are just SO unadventurous with their clothes (they'll be wearing black skirts, black tops, black bag, black stilettos...) that they do make me feel uncomfortable when I branch out a bit?! Almost as if I should be wearing all black too (which I used to do, to try and slim myself down a bit!). They're just jealous! That said, I will chanting "I know I look good in it and that's all that matters" in my head if they start! thanks!
I love my top, AND having tried it on again at home, it actually really defines my waist, whilst skimming over my tummy!
Kelda - olive green accessories is something I would never have thought of, perhaps purple earrings would be too purpley?! Plus I have some lovely new olive green earrings! Cheers!
    Answer:
At least you'll stand out in nice colours instead of being a sheep in boring black ! Plus, black might suggest you have something about your figure that's less than perfect that you want to hide. Colours just show that you're confident and don't have to follow the crowd with your group of friends in all black !
I used to work in a social club where, on a Saturday night, every other female that worked there always wore black, while I was in some other colour/s. I thought about getting more black clothes to fit in but realised it was better not to just fade in to the background with the rest of them and I always got compliments from the regulars at the club on my colour co-ordinated outfits so it can't have been all bad !

    Additions any good?
I picked up a copy of the Additions Direct catalogue at Boots the other day. There's some nice fashion in there - has anyone used them? Are they any good? What's the quality like?
I've seen some tunics and sandals I really like, do you think it's worth ordering from them?

What do you think? Thumbs up or down? :o
    Answer:
I ordered a few pairs of holiday shoes from them last year and they were fine- cheap and cheerful just what i wanted really. Those tunics look nice on the page but they're 100% polyester which usually looks and feels cheap up close. I think the same thing in say dorothy perkins would be made of a blend of cotton and viscose. I could be talking nonsense here  If they're no good you can always return them
    Answer:
I have no real experience of Additions, but I've picked the catalogue up before and rifled through it just out of interest, none of it is particularly inspiring and alot of it looks quite cheap nasty. Also, given my recent redoute nightmare I doubt i'll ever do mail order again.
    Answer:
I've ordered bras from them which didnt last long - the underwiring came out. Ordered a bikini - they sent me the wrong size. Wouldnt order from them again.
    Answer:
I've never had any problems ordering from...or returning clothes to them. The only things I've kept are sandals I ordered from them, but they didn't last too long.
