In the middle of a wardrobe overhaul, ground to a halt

NO.1. Ask :
In the middle of a wardrobe overhaul, ground to a halt
Baggers, your help is needed. I'm in the middle of a long overdue wardrobe overhaul. Loads of old shite is already at the charity shop and I've just spent a small fortune in my favourite shop.
Dilemma 1)
I've just bought three, yes three, pairs of trousers all a variaton on a colour theme. One brown pair, one greeny pair and one in betweeny pair.
What shoes? What colour?
I've got skanky old trainers and boots (see photo) but I need something leather and decent for work.
Here's a picture, please don't laugh. the middle pair are less grey than they look, they're more browny colour. http://photobucket.com/albums/y19/wo...t=trousers.jpg
Dilemma 2)
Silk scarves - how do you wear them? Around the waist looked awful, around the neck looked like an air hostess uniform. How where do you knot? Where do the ends go? I've got two gorgeous scarves and I want to start wearing them.
Please help, I'm clueless.
Thanks in advance
:uzzle:
Answer:
trousers: I'm thinking maybe something brown or dark green, ballet pumps, would work. Its hard to see the exact colour from the picture though. There's plenty of nice coloured shoes around, you should find something along those lines. Or simple flat thongs.
I haven't got a clue about scarves.
Sorry that wasn't very helpful was it?? I'm a bit clueless too :o

Answer:
Trousers- i would say some brown shoes in either tan or chocolate.
Scarves- what about wearing them in your hair or tied onto a here? If you wrap one around your neck and tie it at the back it will look more like a collar than an air hostess uniform.

i have a white satin skirt. straight, just past the knees. what can i wear it with?
    Answer:
A lovely silk camisole and a warm slightly fluffy bolero!
    Answer:
Try it with jeans underneath and another skirt/dress on top - treating it a bit like a underkirt/slip...
    Answer:
    a) what's a bolero?
    b) wouldn't work as a slip. i didn't mention, it's not slinky type satin. it's got weight to it. almost a heavy fabric, actually.
    Answer:
A bolero is one of those often short or cropped cardigans, fitted or loose, sometimes with a distinctive broad ribbed edging - there are many variations, some of which are really shrugs (usually shorter, closer fitting). I think. May have it the wrong way round! Try looking on the Dotty P, Monsoon, Oasis and Topshop websites - New Look and Primark will also have some.
With a white satin skirt, I think the idea of a fluffyish bolero and cute top could work nicely for going out, as long as accessories are tasteful! You could also try a short kimono-inspired top with wide sleeves, or something chiffony and floating. I'm not sure you can really dress it down, especially if it's a heavy-weight fabric - although I suppose you could try wearing it with pretty sandals and a loose (maybe ethnic-y) top and quirky accessories in the summer. I have a dark plum one, which I only ever really wear for going out - it's hard work finding casual clothes to go with it - although I have hopes that my new gold sandals may help there!

    dressing like a grown up.
i'm from a place where jeans and t-shirts are pretty much it and if you look like you just walked out of the gap, you're looking pretty sharp. i think i want to dress up my look but don't know where to start. i'm pretty conservative, don't like things too tight, and love skirts. thoughts people? what are some good basics to start with? (i am on a budget here, so lets not go crazy.)
also, what are you people's thoughts on having your clothes made? there seem to be a lot of pretty cheap seamstresses around here. maybe i should be using them?
    Answer:
Basically I think the only advice I can give you clothes wise is to decide on 'your' style, or a number of styles you like and get out there shopping! Plenty places are pretty cheap such as Primark or New Look, or Topshop perhaps, although that has got more expensive recently- or look on ebay for stuff.
Maybe just beginning with a range of coloured cheap tops from somewhere like primark and ACCESSORISING! Bags, belts, brooches etc.
As for the seamstresses- go for it! You'd end up with soemthing lovely and unique so Id use them definately!

    Answer:
I work in a similar enviroment, so I know what you mean!
Pop into a boookstore and read the first few pages of the InStyle (the magazine, that is) guide called "How to be Stylish" or something like that. It basically gives the mantra:
    1) determine what body shape you are and what styles suits you
    2) determine the colours that work for you
    3) decide on what basic kind of style you want (smart, boho etc.,)
    4) decide on what the "signatures" of your style will be e.g. a penchant for beaded tops, scarves worn in interesting ways etc.,
This book looks pretty good actually, it has whole sections on how to pick classic pieces, how to spot good quality etc.,
    Answer:
To dress up your current look, perhaps you could try wearing dark (indigo) jeans, as they always look smart, with a cord blazer jacket. Still quite casual but a smarter look. You can get cord blazers in loads of places for about £30.
Accessorising can also make an outfit look dressier, e.g. a belt, brooch, bracelet, hair clip.
    Hope this helps

    Well...
    I did :D
I got my boyfriend to drop me there (Watford), and no kidding, I must have spent 2,5hours inthere, trying on So much different stuff, but it wasn't as succesfull as last time I went.
    I still got:
    Teal silky cami,
    Black knitted wrap top,
Black cardi thing, with massive batwing sleeves, but no front (only sleeves back)
    lovely creamy/white flowy skirt,
    Tan suede bag,
    Green butterfly brooch,
The bag that sold on E-bay for £££££ but is really only £3, now comes in green/chocolate brown. LOVE IT :D
    Metallic disc belt,
    Bronze coloured skinny scarf,
and erm I think that's about it...
Saw a few girls whom I thought were baggers, but didn't say anything (can you imagine if they weren't.... )

    Answer:
I was going to pop into the Burton Primark today, but the weather was too cold and the shop was heaving. I might pop into the Derby one during the week because I really like the sound of the skirt you got today.
In work I often see patients who I think may be baggers! :)
    Answer:
It's FAB, and even though it's size 10, it's really lose, so it's reeeeeally low on the hips, and is so flattering :D
I also saw the "here" brooch, but didn't buy it...
I'll prob. put some pics up later of some of my lovely goodies :D
    Answer:
Miss Sweetcheeks, Has the skirt got little beads on it thesame colour as the skirt. If so i got that friday too and its lush, will be so nice for the summer.
Also got a brown slouchy suede bag for £5, brown suede woven belt, red patterned cotton top/dress thing.
Will try and post some piccies later.
    I :throb: Primark
    Answer:
No skirt hasn't got beads, but I did see that one as well, lovely.
I have the brown slouchy suede bag too :D
Here's the small bag I bought, that made so much money on E-bay...

    Top/dress wrap-type thing?
    Hi,
Today when I met up with my friend she was wearing the most gorgeous top/dress over a black cami...it was khaki, cap-sleeved, practically exactly like the top on my doll but it was longer, like a dress, and had a sort of drop waist, from which the skirt bit was all flarey - it was gorgeous and I WANT IT!!!!
Anyone know where I can get one, relatively cheaply cos I dunno how much I'd actually wear it...hers was £3.50 in the Miss Selfridge sale, but there won't be any left now! Doesn't have to be in khaki BTW.
    TIA
    xx
ETA: I found it on eBay in a slightly different colour, but unfortunately not my size! Here's a pic of it, although not a very good one:
    Answer:
I have that one in your picture from Miss selfridge :D
I saw these in Topshop, Dorethy Perkins and Warehouse today.
They are all over the place, and ranges from £20-45.
I even saw some in Primark as well...
    Answer:
They had loads of these in New Look a bit ago - not sure if they still do. I'm pretty sure there was khaki and black at least. BB x
    Answer:
It's gorgeous isn't it Miss Sweetcheeks?! I am insanely jealous of you and my friend for owning it!
Ah Primark - now we're talking! :D I'll have to skedaddle down there at some point and check it out, don't suppose you remember what colours there were?
    Answer:
As far as I remember they had them in teal chocolate brown in Primark..
Oh yes and new look has them as well, green, khaki perhaps black.
