Those people who advised me on that blue Oasis dress...

NO.1. Ask :
Those people who advised me on that blue Oasis dress...

I know I said I'd post pics when it arrived, but shamefully I cannot even zip it up :o I stupidly ordered a size 8 and it's like a tiny child's dress on me! I should have known really, because of the style of it and the silk fabric, there's no 'give' at all. And the 10's are all out of stock on the website now :(
Silly really, when the 2 size 8 dresses I ordered from both Topshop and Miss Selfridge last week were both hanging off me and miles too big. What the hell is going on with sizing these days?! It's made me end up with absolutely no idea what to order.
Anyway, just wanted to say a big thankyou to you all for your advice...it's a lovely dress IRL, and if it had fitted me I'd have definitely kept it :p And just a warning to anyone else who was thinking about ordering it, in my opinion it comes up *small*!
xx
Answer:
Ah that's a shame hun :( I'm sure you'll be able to find something just as nice or even better though ;) Sizing is sooo weird lately, I've had to order so many different sizes in things which makes it so hard to shop online now  It almost makes me want to give up online shopping just try things on instore but I know that will NEVER happen :head:

Answer:
I hear ya - unless I've gone from a size 14 to a size 8 in a day, via sizes 12 and 10?! It wasn't that long ago I was pretty much always a size 12, it's very annoying, especially for those of us who can't or won't go shopping IRL!
Answer:
What a bummer :( Totally agree with you about sizes :head:
Answer:
Thanks girls! It's so annoying about the sizes isn't it, glad it's not just me having trouble ATM!
Ah well, £65 saved :D

everything new in is out of stock :meh:
when do they replenish their stuff?
    Answer:
What are you after? Most of the stuff in the 'new' section is in stock for me
    Lisa xx
    Answer:
not in the new section-i'm trying the skirts section, all the skirts and trousers seems to have none in stock :( when i say 'new' i mean the summery stuff :)
eta-the linen new stuff is either 'unavailable' or only in short
    Answer:
Well I can't guarantee that everything will be in stock in your size but the stuff does usually get restocked quite quickly as I wanted a pair of shorts which sold out last week but they're back in stock again today :)
Oh when something is 'unavailable' it means it will be added to the site soon :)
    Hope this helps ;)

  • Does ubiquitousness put you off?

    NO.4. ask :
    Does ubiquitousness put you off?
Does seeing something everywhere on everyone put you off buying something?
It does with me. This surprises me because usually my only criteria for buying something is that I like it - don't care whether things are in, out, weird, trendy or whatever. But (especially recently) I've started to notice that if I see something (especially something distinctive) on a few people, it really puts me off owning it. I don't know why this would be so - I don't think it's snobbery :cmdunno:
It's the same with the various designer ranges that HM, NL et al have done recently. I might actually like many of the clothes, but very seldom want to buy them. I think this may be because they will forever be associated in my mind with the celeb/whoever in question, and it somehow seems too obvious to me to buy into that, if that makes any sense at all. Plus the relentless publicity annoys me.
Which all sounds horribly snobby and elitist, but isn't meant that way - I don't think any less of people who do buy these things in the slightest, it's just not for me.
Does anyone else feel the same, or am I alone in my weirdness?
    g_k
    Answer:
I feel the same. I don't think it's snobbery - what's wrong with wanting to little a little bit individual? Life would be dull if we were all the same :D
    Answer:
My god no, you're not alone, it certainly puts me off as well, I'm like that in other areas as well, namely, music, I can really go off something if it's overplayed/overhyped
I guess it interferes with an inherent need to make up my own mind about something, I don't really know why it is so at the end of the day, but I totally feel the same way, overexposure totally puts me off, I'm not keen on buying things because some celeb wears whatever, it's totally not the way I go into buying my clothes, yep I can totally relate to what you're saying
    Answer:
yes it does definetely, but its interesting to see what spin you put on an item like the NL silk dress so many baggers have it theres so many different ways to wear it
    Answer:
Individuality I can live with  But there is a fine line between being different just 'cos you are different naturally, so to speak  and being different just for being different's sake.
I remember reading an article in Elle a while ago when a girl explained that she always tried to stay ahead of the trends and that as soon as something became "mainstream" she would drop it and find something else.
Fair enough, but the way she came across was pretentious and far too try-hard, which is deeply uncool. I have a mild horror of turning into her!

  • Dyeing this dress black? (Prom dress for a FIVER baby!)

    NO.5. ask :
Dyeing this dress black? (Prom dress for a FIVER baby!)
I got this dress (originally HM) from a charity shop earlier:
I loooooove the fit, it's small enough to not gape at my rather small bust (and actually makes it look like I have tits! ), fitted around the waist so is slimming, but then flares out over my big hips and butt :D I did just intend it to be a sundress, then I realised that a) I never wear sundresses and b) I reeeally need a prom dress and am rather skint!
Anyway, I was thinking of dyeing it black to make it look a little more formal, then maybe put a thick royal purple ribbon under the bust or summat to "jazz it up" a bit. My question is, if I dyed it do you think it would come out OK? It's 100% cotton, and I'd use a Dylon machine dye - I just wondered if maybe cos of the pattern it would come out black, but with the pattern still there subtly? Which could look quite nice I guess  The dress is dark choc brown, turquoise and white in case it's not clear.
Also while I'm at it, do you like the dress and what shoes could I wear with it?? They need to be flat, maybe a metallic colour...? Or if I decide to not put a ribbon/use a black ribbon, I could always wear coloured shoes and jewellery/bag to match!
ETA: our prom is not very formal so knee length dresses would be acceptable, and as this isn't my leaving prom (that's next year) I don't mind if it's not amazing, I'll probably splash out for next year!
    TIA
    xx
    Answer:
Nice dress! I think it would be a bit of a shame to dye it; the pattern's so pretty!
I don't know about dyeing it; the thing about that is that if the thread is a different mix to the dress (often is with cheaper clothes) then it can not dye properly and the result can look a bit odd.
    g_k
    Answer:
I actually like the dress as it is! Its a perfect fit for you too.
    Answer:
hey, I really like the dress as it is actually! would look good with kind of ethnic accessories and big bold wooden wedges:D
to answer your Q - not sure. depends on the material TBH. if it's 100%cotton or natural fibres it should dye really well, but if it's man made like viscose or nylon then dye doesnt really work. try the dylon website for more advice. :)
    Answer:
I do like the print a lot too, but I know I won't wear it that much and I really need a prom dress! The pattern's def too casual for prom though :(
