Help Me Please!! First Date / Gig
1 Attachment(s) I really really need some fashion advice, I'm usually just a lurker here, but feeling brave enough to post this morning!
I've just been asked out on date on Saturday night to go to a Willy Mason gig....you can find out a bit more about him here http://www.willymason.co.uk/
I've no idea what to wear, its been years since I've been to a gig and even longer since I've been on a date
Anyway I'm 5ft tall, size 14/16, shoulder length brown / blonde hair....ahh dam....I'll just try to attach a pic of me it'll be quicker!
I live in a big city so pretty much can go to any shops....I just need some ideas!!
Thanks loads
Answer:
going to sound like a p erv here :o , but do you have good legs?
If so, I think you'd look good in :
Just above knee length battered denim mini
Frye style flat boots
White vest top
Patterned/coloured Chiffon Kaftan style top (you know the shorter kaftan type ones from say Warehouse?)
Slouchy belt over the Kaftan
and a neutral coloured fitted jacket (DP's have a nice khaki military one at the mo, I know that some of the ones that are buttoned to teh neck can be hard to wear if you're on the larger side, but I'm 14-16 too and the one I got from there is really nice on)
Leather Satchel type bag across your body.
I think that your hair would look really nice as well if you could get it up into a high messy ponytail, with messy bits hanging down at the front.
If you hate your legs as much as I hate mine I'll have another think ;)
Answer:
Thanks for you reply!
My legs are pretty awful....too much running = huge calfs!
I just had a quick look on a few websites and did like the idea of a kaftan style top and I've been after a military style jacket for a while...so this might just be a perfect excuse!!
Thanks
Answer:
I empathise - ballet = legs like will carling
you could always do the top and jacket with jeans and pair of rope wedges (not porno high ones though!  )
Answer:
Boss has gone to work from home today....perfect opportunity for me to go shopping this afternoon!
Thanks for your help!

Seeing items in mags then finding them in the shops.
NO.2. ask :
Seeing items in mags then finding them in the shops.
Ok does anyone else think that this has got to RIDICULOUS proportions??
I never really used to have this problem as I worked in Mayfair and so would spend most lunchtimes and occasionally after work, trawling Oxford St and Bond St for ideas and bargains ;)
But since having a small munchkin, my time spent loitering (;) :p ) in shops has unfortunately decreased hugely.
I've also happened to buy a couple of mags recently (In Style, Red and Happy, just because I hadn't read anything on here!!! and I quite liked it :o )
BUT I went armed with my mags to Oxford St the other day and WHAT a fecking waste of time
Bag from Kookai - "oh that came out at Christmas and we sold out in Jan"
Jacket from Miss Selfridge - "never seen it"
Top from Oasis - "never seen it"
Necklace from Principles - "never seen it"
cardigan from Paul Smith - "never seen it"
Top from Dorothy Perkins - "never seen it"
and there were a couple of other things that were "sold out months ago"
WTF????????
god it is SO berluddy irritating.
And if I see ONE MORE FECKING PRAIRIE/GYPSY skirt
I've been wearing them for years and now horrid little snotty chav rats are wandering the streets in them.
(sorry -having bad morning :o ;) )
NO MORE Mags for me.
rant over.

This makes me laugh cos I swear everyone on here reckons they've been wearing the latest trends for yonks before they became "mainstream"
I agree that it's very annoying not beng able to find items in mags in the shops. I doubt it'll change much. It's not as if the mags would take us seriously if we were to complain.
Answer:
You're right, its so annoying but I still keep buying them!
Answer:
Imagine how we feel over here in Ireland then!
I've lost count of the number of times I've been watching things in topshop and f c u k only for them to never arrive.
I almost wept when I saw all the stuff in the Manchester stores!!!:( :( :( I need to do 4/5 trips a year to stock up on the stuff we never get over here!

:p :p :p yes but Penney's is a lot more civilised than Primark AND you have Dunnes AND your TK Maxx's are practically empty!! (in Limerick anyway ;) )
I'm sure I'll think of another plus!
oh yes, you have Ireland AM which I love :o :o :o :o :o

layering tops/vests/T-shirts
NO.3. ask :
layering tops/vests/T-shirts
Hmmmm... I am trying to work out how to layer vests and T-shirts as I see the look on other people and really like it. I'm also quite a fan of wearing dresses over jeans and would like to be able to wear a little vest or two underneath. The problem is when I try it at home, it just doesn't look right - I look like I've put two tops on by mistake! Could anyone point me in the right direction as regards styles, shapes and colours?
I'm thinking it's quite important to get the colours and fabrics right and possibly to make sure the right one goes on top but I'm struggling a bit here. Ideas, please!
Answer:
Yup know what you're saying - I've been there on many an occasion!
I find the trick for me with the layering thing is to use sheer layers - if I wear normal cotton tshirts it looks too chunky on me. I've bought a load of CC tshirts in the New Year sales - they're too expensive full price - you can get them online from http://www.brownsfashion.com, or direct from them in the US at http://www.candccalifornia.com/
Lots of shops are also doing tops that already have layers - places like New Look have some.
The dresses over jeans/trousers thing - wrap dresses work best for me - I've tried other styles but it just doesn't look right on me. Most of the high street shops are doing wrap dresses at the moment, they are really popular. I find this look works best for me if I'm wearing jeans or trousers with a flared leg.
Answer:
Yip, I have loads of wrap dresses - trying to branch out a bit for spring, so have been buying a couple that are a bit more sheer and tunic-y. I'm thinking a little vest underneath would be just the thing.
Will check out already layered tops - good idea!
Answer:
Hennes have a few 2-in 1 vests in at the mo to achieve the layered look.
Answer:
Another vote for CC and Gap did great fine layering vests last year which were perfect - maybe they'll do something similar this summer.
What I find hard is wearing the right bra, the the right vest as you end up with 3 sets of straps if you're not careful.
A good vest with built in bra - I get them from MS and Gap do them as well is a good starting point with another shape / style on top.
It's a really cute look, but two identical vests look wrong on top of each other one needs to be bigger / longer if you're going to see it rather than look like the Michelin man!

Ah boo! Not fair!
NO.4. ask :
Ah boo! Not fair!
I was in the Stephens Green shopping centre (Dublin) this morning and they have the most amazing umbrellas on display in the Sasha window. They are large pink brollys with a black shiny hande. The top of the umbrella forms into a sort of teat shape. It's so unusual and so so pretty.
SADLY they are for display purposes only. Gutted :(
Answer:
Did you say they are pink and black? Surely they look like big boobies!
Mimi x
Answer:
Hee hee! Not quite! They are so fab though. They look so femminine and classy.
Answer:
Maybe you can ask instore if they dressed the window themselves and they know where they got the umbrellas from?
Answer:
1 Attachment(s) I rang to ask where they got them from but the sales assistant didn't know anything about them except that the merchandisers had brought them.
I tried to take a picture of them this morning to see if anyone has seen anything like them but it didn't come out so well. They were up very high and the display lights were too bright!!
My HK Bag fooled...
NO.5. ask :
My HK Bag fooled...
the Marc Jacobs Sales Assistant at Harrods!! :yay:
I was looking at the new styles and she said "oh, I've never seen one in that colour before (lime green)", where di d you get it?
"Hong Kong" says me. "Oh!" says she, it looks fab.
Though I then admitted it wasn't a MJ Sophia after all...
I think I will tell Fiona that the actual Sophia is quite a bit smaller than mine (I would have preferred it smaller) just so she knows.
It's the width across the base of the bag (depth I guess) which makes it bulky.
I also saw the new Celine Boogie bag at Harrods and it was gorgeous!!!
Minky x
Answer:
...is that the Celine Transit bag ?? I saw a picture in a recent mag and thought it looked verrry nice. I was not a fan of the Boogie but the Transit is a temptation !
and congratulations on fooling the MJ SA !!! Its such a lovely bag anyway but that is icing on the cake !
Answer:
:yay: :yay: ooh I would have been so chuffed!!!!
(and I AM going to hang out at Mulberry and every mulberry concession, a la Puddy, when my pigging bag FINALLY Arrives  )
PLEASE don't torture me with any talk of the celine bags :( :( :( I KNOW I'm being horrendously practical, but I do have to have one that goes over my shoulder.:( :( The transit is slightly bigger than the boogie isn't it?? Oh it's SO SO lush :( :(
Anyway, everything I keep trying to order from Fiona, she says she can't do
So I think I may just go for a good old birkin but completely in an animal print - either brown and white cow or black and white cow. (not copying your Hobbs bag honest elliecat - when I decided that I Did want one there weren't any left  )
I'm having a bag related disaster of a year aren't I
:(

Answer:
Ooh eerr katkinn, I'm going to get an animal print Birkin too! but leopard with black leather rather than brown.
Shall we meet at Selfridges with our matching bugaboos and bags ;)
I just wish I had an arse that matched your skinny tall one! :p
Minky
i wonder if it's cheaper to combine postage?
And yes, I need a shoulder strap too, blast these babies!
Answer:
What does the celine transit bag look like? I can't find a pic...
