ex students! what did you all wear for your graduation ball?

NO.1. Ask :
ex students! what did you all wear for your graduation ball?
its my graduation ball in september... and i don't really know what sort of dress to wear so I need a few ideas to get me started..
what did you all wear? :)
Answer:
Hey,
Afriad I'm not a graduate yet, but I'm helping my sister find a dress for her's in July; she's looking for something really individual that's going to stand out. I say go for something bautiful, a little unusual that will make you feel fantastic and successful. Stay away from black at all costs!!!!!
I don't know where you are, but might be worth trying smaller boutiques rather than huge department stores so you don't get copied. Let us if you find anything!
Answer:
I'm still a student, so haven't been to a grad ball yet, but have been to quite a few other balls before. What does it say on the ticket? If its black tie, then anything from a knee length cocktail dress (smart), to a full length ball gown should be appropriate. Don't be tempted to wear anything shorter than knee length, however glamourous you may think it looks. I have been to a lot of these events before, and IMHO, they always look a bit inappropriate and tarty..the girls wearing very short dresses do always look out of place and uncomfortable.
You can go for the full blown ball gown option, but a bit of a waste of money as they tend to be quite expensive for if your only going to get one or two wears out of it! In my experience as well, if your not used to wearing full length dresses, it can be a little bit 'weird' and uncomfortable.
Try doing a search for 'black tie' - im pretty sure this type of question has come up lots of times before, so that should give you plenty of ideas, and places to shop. My best advice would just to go to a large department store and spent an afternoon trying all of them on, to see what style suits you best and what you are most comfortable in. Once you have established what exactly your after, you could then try smaller boutiques, to find something a little more individual? Most important thing is just to find something your comfortable in though, so you can have fun!

Answer:
I wore a cream, slightly vintagey, romanticcy dress which I bought from Cruise. It went past the knee and swished so nicely when I walked. Initially I wasn't sure about wearing it to a ball but I was really happy I did because I got so many compliments. I think it was because it wasn't black and looked quite different compared to the very formal-looking gowns and cocktail dresses most others wore.
I had such a fab time at my graduation ball. I didn't want it to end :D Hope you have fun at your's!
Answer:
For my graduation ball, I wore a strapless full length burgundy satin dress and I felt fab!! (nothing to do with the bottles of champagne I consumed of course!). I would suggest just trying a few on, definitely err on the side of classy rather than tarty (knee length or below) especially if you have a sit down meal (mine was 5 courses) cos no-one really wants to see your boobs at dinner!!
ALso, on a practical note, as its a grad ball, people will be getting hammered so if you pick a light coloured dress and its really busy, you may end up wearing someone else's drink- this happened to my best friend and she was so upset... but above all just enjoy it- it was one of the best nights at Uni and you'll keep the photos forever!!!

    Missing my bag...
Don't really expect anyone to reply to this as is terribly selfish thread but hoping for bit of sympathy from those who will understand!
Finally gave in (thanks to all the positive comments on here!) and ordered a Roxy from Lush last Thursday night. They tried to deliver it on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, but I was at work and missed it!
Have tried to phone the depot about a milloin times, but no answer, and have had a hell of a week at work and not been able to get there (is quite a long way, and would take ages at rush hour).
I'm missing my bag, even though I've never seen it!!
Good news is, my BF's coming up from London tomorrow, and the depot is near the motorways so I've asked him to pick it up for me on his way here :yay:
Funny thing... I didn't tell him what it was, just that it's 'a parcel' and he said "is it coming from Hing Kong?" I told him he was on the right lines!!!

I've got the coffee bean. I was obsessed with the FedEx tracking from the moment of ordering, and when it came up with Expected date of delivery 8pm Monday, I knew I was being stupid but I couldn't help believeing it!!
Anyway, only 20 and a half hours to go......not that I'm being obsessive or anything!

    NO.3. ask :
    Toe loop sandals
I bought a pair of toe loop sandals last week... haven't worn them yet and have been wondering about how they will feel when I do wear them.
It took me a very long time to get used to toe post sandals which I only started wearing about 5 years ago... but even so, there are some I find really comfy and some I find really painful.
I've already been eyeing up another lovely pair of toe loop sandals but don't want to get them if I only find out later that I can't get on with them.
What are your thoughts on toe loop sandals?
    Answer:
i bought my first pair of toe loops last week, and think theyre really comfortable. I wear them to work where I have to stand up all day and theyre really comfortable, more than the thong sandals (they rub in between my toes - ooooouuch!)
I did used to think they were really funny looking tho - bit like bondage for the toes???? or just my sick mind?? ;)
Anyway I'm a convert so I say go for it :)
    Answer:
I have a pair of gold roman style toe-loop sandals, and I found them pretty awkward to walk in at first. I have very short toes though, so the loop doesn't always want to stay on.
I've got a bit more used to them now, and they're getting more comfortable. They haven't rubbed at all though.
    Answer:
1 Attachment(s) Got a pair on Tuesday from New Look. They're very comfortable actually. I'm just annoyed they didn't come in silver!
    Answer:
Yeah, I got these ones from dotty p's last week... it's a bonus that these are really pretty too, but I have tried loads of these on before which either didn't feel right or the toe loop was too big or looked silly. These ones I have are so comfy.
I think I might go for the other ones then, they are white silver, full leather and only £12 :) ! Look nice feel comfy too.

    Hello everyone!
I never post in here, but am totally stuck on ideas for what to wear to the BAFTAS on Sunday (won the tickets on HB).
Has anyone seen anything great recently that would suit?

Oooh you jammy cow!! How did you win them?
If I was you, I would wear a black dress. Something sexy but not over the top.
But then, I am rubbish at getting dressed up!
    Answer:
 Won them through answering a question on the Ents forum, Tinks!!
Yes, I was thinking LBD, but the only thing is, we are going to a champagne reception beforehand and then walking down the red carpet!!! Now, while I realise that our pics won't be taken, if we have to walk down there it means that there will be loads of people watching for stars and I can't stroll down there in me ma's hand-me-downs, regardless of the fact that they might not notice me. I need to feel as though I should be there, even though I shouldn't, if that makes sense.
Just don't want to make a feck of myself, truth be told. And nothing in shop windows has said 'buy me', which is very disappointing.

I think you should wear a sexy trouser suit too or something that involved safety pins ;)

    NO.5. ask :
    Opinions of 3/4 sleeve jackets?
I saw some cute ones at Jcrew today, and although I normally loathe this style, it's starting to grow on me. Are they worth the money or should I just buy something with long sleeves? I don't want to spend too much if I'm not going to wear them in a few months.
    Answer:
I like skirt suits with 3/4 length sleeves and nice pair of sling back heels. Not sure that trouser suits work the same and not sure if wearing the jacket on its own works the same!
    Answer:
I bought a black blazer style one last year and wore it quite a bit with jeans. I'm tempted by another one this year but in a different colour.
You do have to be careful though, some of them look like you've squeezed yourself into a small child's jacket. The proportions are all wrong.
    Answer:
I really like them but the drawback is that they are less versatile than regular sleeve jackets. It's hard to team them with shirts and most types of long sleeved tops. They're still cute though!
    Answer:
I haven't seen any but the concept of a 3/4 sleeve jacket is just wrong.
