off to Sydney!!
Hello ladies,
Just to say that I'm off to Sydney on Saturday (relocating for my job) and that I may not be posting much until I get things out there sorted out. If any of you know Sydney well, then I would really appreciate hearing your reccomendations on where to eat/shop/live and all this kind of stuff!! But anyway, it's byyeeeeeeee for now and I'll post again soon...! :grouphug:
Answer:
Blimey! Off round the other side of the world!
Good luck and I hope you love it - I have never been to Sydney but I have only ever heard good things about living there so I hope you have a fabulous time!
Post back soon with your new Aussie fashions!
Answer:
Kelda! i was only thinking of you this morning - wondered if you'd left yet!
Paddington for shopping - without a doubt!!! Great markets on a saturday too and lots of lovely little boutiques.
Don't miss the Mardi Gras, it was without doubt one of the best things i've ever seen. there is a gay bar called The Albury (I think?) in paddington which has the funniest compare and the best atmosphere.. very good boogying until the wee hours...
The Rocks is lovely on a sunday morning, a bit of a market/antiquey/art vibe going on.... (eta: down by sydney harbour and opera house)
You have to do a road trip - drive from sydney to melbourne (stopping in adelaide on the way through - great clubs) and see the Twelve Apostles on the Great Ocean Road.
Oooh loads more but its all a bit of a haze to me now - i spent a drunken year out there about 5 years ago now.. Sob sob i'd love to go back its the most amazing place ever.
Have fun honey, try and keep bagging!!lol vxxx:)
Answer:
Fiveways is a lovely small area (funnily enough it's where five streets meet). Look out for Lisa Ho, Alannah Hill in this area and also a few fab places to eat, including one on the roundabout that has the most amazing mix of salads.
Good Luck!
Answer:
Paddo for shoes - the best shoes in Sydney. Alannah Hill also on Oxford St in Paddo.
Paddy's Market (on the main an evil tourist market but..)fab for kaftan type things.
Mamojo in Bondi for Bikinis and the best belts and more expensive but very very lovely kaftans
Great new huge mall at Bondi Junction with everything in it you could imagine - lovely designer concessions in the huge department store
Target (pikey shop but v good and they are everywhere) for my faves Bonds underwear at very cheap prices - expensive ish in the UK, less than 50% cheaper in Aus. Best gstrings ever ever.
Max's shoes in Bondi Junction for great cheapie shoes - the most funky styles and so cheap
V jealous - the shopping is fabulous.
PS The loveliest tapas place at 5 ways too - actually wonder if that isn't the salad place the previous poster refers to. And for asian food it has to be pretty much any asian BYO in Surrey Hills. And for posh food, Aqua Luna - glorious.

FAO Everyone, regarding the Fashion Board.
NO.3. ask :
FAO Everyone, regarding the Fashion Board.
Sorry for the ominous title, just wanted to make you look ;)
here.com are thinking about creating "mini-portals" for each set of boards (in this case fashion). Basically, it's a web page that would promote the discussion boards by creating an editorial presence for them. It could include links to good threads (whether they be funny or helpful), and content submitted by the baggers, such as reviews etc.
BUT
Before it's thought about any more, I want to be able to pass ont you guys would like to see in a mini-portal for the Fashion.
All suggestions are welcome, even if you think they sound far fetched!
Please post and let me know what you would like to see in a mini - portal, and I'll pass every suggestion on.
I'll start with my own suggestion:
I'd like to see a hot or not barometer that's been decided by the fashion baggers, because we are all so stylish ;)
Answer:
I like the idea of the barometer, but I have one little niggle. Would it make it even harder to get to the fashion board?!! ONce you've got to the discussion groups menu, I don't understand why you have to click on fashion twice to get to the actual board. There aren't any subsection in fashion, so why is it necessary?? For some reason I find it very irritating, so if the portal was yet another step it might be far too much effort!

specs shyness
NO.5. ask :
specs shyness
I have to go and pick up my new specs this pm. I have gone for one nice thin-rimmed pair and I also somehow got persuaded to get some funky plasticky **** ones for my second pair.
I normally wear contact lenses but I want to wear my specs more as I know it's better for my eyes.
Now I'm really nervous and think what if I hate the funky ones?!
Oh dear, I've come over really uncharacteristically shy and think I'm going to be scared to leave the house...:o :o :o
Answer:
About 3 years ago I had some DG specs that were pretty OTT. The frames were really thick, and gunmetal in colour - really unusual. I used to get loads of positive comments about them, and I'm sure you will too!!
My current specs are gucci sunglasses (rimless) with the SPF lenses changed to prescription ones.....
Answer:
Don't be shy!
I mostly wear contacts (rigid, to hold my cornea in the correct shape so eyesight doesn't deteriorate further) but I love funky specs! I especially love coloured plastic frames. I have a fab tortoiseshell pair from Gucci with thick arms (I look very intelligent/studious ha ha) and also dark purple cats-eye and a pair of dark blue rectangular ones from no-name Japanese brand.
I think that I'll be going for red or bright pink next :p
Answer:
Ahem - I bought myself some really nice YSL frames when I graduated in an attempt to make me wear my contacts less, I still wear them most of the time though!
I look alright in glasses as well, other than the fact that my ears are wonky so they sit slightly askew on my face, I then fiddle with them, weaken the arms and break them!
I would love to go for some more striking frames but I am still scarred from having "interesting" frames when I was about 12

Oh dear - I think you've hit the nail on the head. I've just remembered I did get teased about some slightly Buddy Holly style glasses I had at school! Must still be traumatised...
BTW Betty Ford - most peoples' ears are wonky but they should be able to fit your specs so they sit straight.
The guy in the shop was nice - he did seem prepared to tell me when I tried on ones that didn't suit me so I did take his opinion seriously.
I figured the big plasticky ones will also be good for hiding behind when I'm hungover, or when my eyes are closing in particularly boring meetings...;)
