What do people wear where you live?

NO.1. Ask :
What do people wear where you live?
I was thinking the other day at the bus stop that there is a certain way of dressing in the area of London (East End) where I live.
I think there are quite a lot of students round here and also quite a few design / creative companies so people are quite creative in the way they dress. There are some good places for buying more alternative clothes such as Absolute Vintage, The Laden Showroom and the sunday markets.
For example walking down the street the other day I saw a really funky-looking Japanese girl who was wearing a long blue coat, bright tights and funky flowery pointed flats. Her hair was styled in quite a mad way and she also had on an earring that was made out of one of those crinkle cut crisps!
I don't think I could carry off such mad attire but there are elements of the look that I think I've adopted, such as sometimes wearing peep toe shoes with mad sparkly socks.
I like it that people are creative and that there isn't just one 'look' that people wear.
So what do people wear in your neck of the woods?

Answer:
I'm in Belsize Park and its kind of made up of two 'sets' - the yummy mummies with their 4WD's and Nuala yoga suits off to Triyoga and doing the casual elegant linen look at weekends and the more (gulp) boho (sorry but couldnt' think of an alternative word) and casual/trendy looks in Primrose Hill and at some of the trendier hangouts in Belsize Parks - lots of actors and telly people around here.
and if I wander down the road to Camden its a whole different world.....
Answer:
Where I stay its all shellsuits tucked into socks, manky trainers and chicks with fat bellies hanging over the top of their jeans  If you go into town you can also spot the mini-metallers/wannabe 'gofiks' with their identikit new rocks/stripy tights/fishnet tops/dyed hair. Not that I dress like this of course ;)
Answer:
Ha! I was thinking of starting a thread like this today - was sitting on the bus on the way home last night and thought "this would make an interesting thread".
Where I live there's a real mix because it's a very mixed area in terms of ethnicity. We've got lots of Jamaicans who all look super groomed and blinged up - but somehow, I think, totally carry it off. Hundreds of thousands of anti-podeans who, in the case of the women, either look averagely trendy (jeans and a funky t-shirt) or surfer like. And in the case of the men, look mostly surfer like in tshirts and boardies. Then we have one or two uber-trendy people. A lot of pikey-chic. ;) And a lot of average looking people who vary between looking fine and wearing skinny jeans (in all the wrong ways) and old tackies.
Answer:
I think Nottinghill is similar to Primrose Hill, but on a larger scale and with more of an ethnic mix.
There are some beautifully dressed women and lots of yummy mummies in their yoga pants and kaftans.
The boho luxe look has been a Nottinghill staple for years and it's still the norm among younger ladies, but usually accessorised with a designer here and super shades.
It's quite wierd because in the summer it can really feel like you're living in a holiday resort - lots of dressed up people arriving at the chichi restaurants in their soft top cars and designer clothes and dining and drinking al fresco.
To be honest anything goes and most people tend to wonder round like they're in Ibiza once it gets hot!!

    NO.2. ask :
    O/T Essensuals Hairdressers
Sorry, but thought people here might be able to help. Hair is awful quiet!
Has anyone had any experience of Essensuals? I have a 25% off discount voucher and the love of my life hairdresser I used to go to at Vidal Sassoon has buggered off to teach...so... thought I might try Essensuals. Now, I HATE Toni and Guy but wondered what people thought of Essensuals? Are they any different?
    Thanks!
    Answer:
I've been to the one in Bath a few times and was fairly happy with it. Maybe don't go to the very lowest level of stylist if you can afford it. And make sure you are very specific; I think they are technically good rather than imaginative!
    Answer:
Hmmm. That's a shame. I loved my old hairdresser because I just used to go in and come out with something different that looked amazing and I never had to say anything.
I think maybe I shall stick to VS and try another stylist he recommended before he left.
    Answer:
Avoid a chain hairdressers and go for a reputable local one, you are playing for the trading franchise name not the skills.
    Answer:
Essensuals are the sister offspring company of Toni Guy - so if you hate them, I would steer clear of Essenuals!

1 Attachment(s) Saw this dress on Ebay, it's Atmosphere which I think is Primark.
Does anyone know if it's current stock or an old one?
    Answer:
'Atmosphere' is the label on most of my Primark stuff.
I've never seen that one in store but the new ones they have in now seem to be cap-sleeved if that's any help.
    Answer:
    Thanks :)
I kept looking on ebay and there are loads of them!
I'm sure I've seen something similar in Warehouse or Wallis too, so maybe it is new?
    Melikes it!

    Answer:
    It's really nice!
    Answer:
Its definitly Primark. I was in Bexleyheath store last Thursday evening and they had these.
I am a fan of wrap dresses and nearly got it but the pattern is a little on the bright side for me. I think it was about 8 or 10 quid.
The material was nice and soft.

2 Attachment(s) What do think of this top? It was 50p in a charity top so I picked it up with a few bits and bobs, just wondering how I could wear it? Skinnies and boots I'm guessing... You know when somehtings such a bargain and you get it home and think hmmm, ( or that just me) well I can't grumble for 50p :p but what do you think? :)

( iI also picked this tee up with "student of the month" on it ) :D
    Answer:

Im not sure about the first top....Is the top sheer? maybe you could wear a cami underneath?

i like the tshirt its funky...:D
    Answer:
    I want that t-shirt! It's brilliant :D
I think, because it's a bit grungy, how about with skinny jeans and boots or boyfriend jeans and sneakers/ pumps?
Not sure about the first top though, sorry. It's a bit... mumsy :o Sorry, no disrespect to anyone, it's just not my taste.
    Answer:
You could wear the top tighten up with a large leather belt for that 50's look and a pencil skirt or with jeans tucked into boots and large belt loose around waist for funky look :)
You could also wear the top underneath a fitted cardie for that sexy PA look and skirt or wide legged trousers :)
    Answer:
I like the top, think it would look good with black jeans and boots, and a big wide belt.
The second one is awful! sorry.

    Florence and Fred - Wow
Okay, I am slightly slow on the uptake (doh!) but was shopping at the great big new Tescos in Coventry last night and have just discovered Florence and Fred (in my defence, before this store opened a couple of months ago, there wasnt any stores that stocked it round here :p )
As someone who has always been a bit of a supermarket snob (I will admit it  never thought I would buy clothes at a supermarket) I had to eat my words! They have a fantastic range of clothing and even OH was suitably impressed!
    Answer:
I went to my nearest Tesco's and couldn't find anything in the clothing range. All I see in mags are the gorgeous chloe style dresses etc but when I go down there, its full of bad leggings, prairie skirts and bad trousers....
    Answer:
I always see lovely things advertised in magazines, but I can never find them when I go into a tesco! I think they're hiding from me!
    Answer:
they had the chloe style dresses in mylocal tesco - beautiful emerald green and chocolate brown colour. however, satin is way to unforgiving so i gave it a miss.
i often have a peek before i do my food shopping, i've got a nice cardi from ff. i wont reject on the basis of store name - i'm far from being flush and hey, i shop in primark, so say no more!!!
    Answer:
i've got a lot of bits from f+f, some swishy skirts, vest tops, jumpers. they also do some very nice suits (in lovely colours/fabrics) sometimes but you have to be quick to get them as they sell out really quickly
the clothing section in the big new tescos in cov is great, its really worth spending a bit of extra time browsing round it as there are fab bargains. i think its one of the bigger tescos in the country at the moment..?
they have a great home section there too!
