Fashion and Films
Are you influenced by fashion/style in films?
This weekend I watched a couple of films - In The Mood For Love and 2046 - they're both set in the 1960s in Hong Kong and are the most beautiful films I've seen in ages. The dresses are fantastic!
What are your top stylish films?
Answer:
Re: Fashion and Films
Ooh, they look v.stylish.
I get very obsessed by outfits and styles I see in films. There's a Japanese film called Dolls which I think is so beautiful because of all the colours and the clothing is really attention-grabbing (but kind of loose and layered at the same time).
On the other end of the scale, at the time, I really loved Kate Beckinsdale's get-up in Pearl Harbour where she waves goodbye to her bloke at the train station. I can't remember it exactly now, but I know that I searched and searched for burgundy (fake) leather gloves for months after watching that film.

breakfast at tiffany's!

I loved the outfits from In The Mood For Love/2046/House of Flying Daggers too.
I liked the outfits from the remake of the Thomas Crown Affair - can't remember the actress's name though! The clothes in Amelie are cute too.
Apart from that, I can't think of many others - I'm an action flick/sci-fi/martial arts/thriller junkie and clothes aren't generally high on the agenda in these films!

Interesting thread!
The film I saw most recently in which I LOVED the clothes was the Woody Allen film Melinda and Melinda. Chloe Sevigny's outfits were to die for. I think she probably actually helped with the styling as she's known for being incredibly sylish. It was all very New York chic, lots of Prada.

Topshop turquoise cage shoes
NO.3. ask :
Topshop turquoise cage shoes
I saw a pair of these gorgeous shoes in Topshop on Friday... they didn't have my size so went to another branch yesterday and they didn't have them either.
They did try to order them but they told me the depot is out of stock and should try again next week. I did try them on in the peachy colour but they just didn't compare... but they are soooo comfy.
They are a really nice turquoise/peacock blue colour and what I would classify as a cage style shoe... has anyone seen these? I can't see them on the website.
Does anyone know if they've only just been brought out? That way I can determine whether or not I should waste my time next week trying to hunt the buggers down.
Answer:
I think I saw something similar in the dublin jervis street branch last weekend Yingers. Its a style that they seem to do in a few different colour combinations.
Answer:
This is the closest I could come up with from the TS website... albeit in a different colour and the design at the front is slightly different too.
ETA: The ones I'm after aren't t-bar style either.
Answer:
I can't remember now cause those ones look very similar to those I saw so don't know if it was the ones with or without the t bar that they had  :(
Answer:
I saw the peach ones about a month ago and really liked them but haven't seen the turquoise ones. That's not very helpful but the turquoise ones sound lovely, will keep an eye out for them.
And you are called?
NO.4. ask :
And you are called?
I bought a pair of trousers on holidays but I don't know what they are called. Basically the trousers (in sarong type material) are not sewn together. You tie the back of the trousers around your waist and then pull the rest of the garment between your legs and tie around the back. Am I making any sense here? Are these the Gaucho things everyone is talking about even though they are ankle length? The lady in the shop showed me a couple of different ways to wear them, tying at the ankle and at the knee...
Answer:
Well I call these Thai trousers, cos the first pleace I saw them was in Thailand.
Answer:
I know the things you're talking about and I just call them beach keks. I've never noticed them called anything specific when i have seen them in the shops on holiday.
ETA: and they're not the gauchos people are talking about lately... those are different... like cullottes.
Answer:
Aaaaah excellent. My mad descriptions might not be so mad afterall! ;)
