What to have for my birthday?
So....I'm having trouble thinking of what to request for my birthday. MrT has suggested I write a list and he'll chose something. I'm looking for things between £30 and £70 really as he's already treting us to a day out.
So, all ideas welcome. Clothes aren't such a great plan, but anything pretty and girly would go down well.
Answer:
Jewellery, here, watch - not neccesarily in that order!
Answer:
ooh when's your birthday Trickster? Mine is on Wednesday. I remember ours being close together actually :)
I'm having similar problems actually, I've been even more rubbish than usual with suggestions for my family - and am leaving it quite late!
Hmm
How about a perfume that you like but don't own? I love receiving nice fragrances as presents...
I also like summer limited edition makeup sets, they seem really special and indulgent.
How about a nice bag or shoes that you have your eye on?
Gig/theatre tickets?
Answer:
Lush milk paddington (its what I'm asking for my b'day in a few weeks).
I think you should be quite prescriptive about what you want as it being sales time at the moment your average bloke could get a bit waylaid in shops and bring back something on sale that you find hard to exchange.
(not saying your OH is an 'average bloke' just saying that if he isn't an experienced shopper then sales can be a bit daunting and like a rabbit in the headlights he'll buy something, anything to get out !):)
Answer:
What about a gorgeous scarf/pashmina?Something you maybe wouldn't buy for yourself? You could always pick one out and give him strict instructions where to find it,Selfridges/Fenwicks etc.
Luxury Retail!
NO.2. ask :
Luxury Retail!
Hiya, just wondering does anyone work or know of someone who works in luxury retail of any kind, such as on the here designer concession stands in selfridges, harvey nichols or harrods e.g Louis Vuitton, Fendi etc, or in the actual store. And could you inform me of what they look for in employees to deal with luxury products e.g skills .
thanks
Answer:
I don't know of anyone... but I guess the main criteria for working in a place like that is to have an elitish, snobby arrogant attitude and act like you own the place and you should be fine!
I'm only bitter as I have only ever been faced with u-bend (up their own a*se) idiots like that whenever I go into any of those places.
The ones that p*ss me off the most are the ones that either ignore you or tell you they're busy (and you can see they're not) or ones that follow you around the shop, not cos they want to help you but because they think you're going to steal something and are always patronising.
I guess basic customer service sales assistance skills like with any retail place is what they are looking for... perhaps if you're smart and got a good eye for fashion that could go in your favour too.
Are you looking for a job in a place like that or something?
Primark-What are the gems?
NO.3. ask :
Primark-What are the gems?
Well I've decided I may venture into Primark soon as I've heard such good things about it!
I've always avoided it before because I always thought it was a bit cheap and nasty :o
So what are the best things to look out for? I've sen a bolero and a military jacket mentioned on anothe thread, anything else?
Answer:
I think they've got a lot of nice embroidered skirts, and there really good for shorts and cheap espadrilles at the moment.
Answer:
Mini suede heres - great for when you're dressed down, cheap and cheerful underwear and cosy PJs for winter (ridiculously cheap- you'll end up buying tons!)
Answer:
they do have some gems, but these can vary from store to store or only have large sizes left (unless you need a large size, which of course then isn't a problem!)...
I quite like primark for basic items as they are so cheap and can't really go wrong with them. I recently bought some vests, linen trousers and boob tubes and they are really good to wear, etc . and such good value for money.
Answer:
Ooh brilliant, I can't wait to have a good rummage, I'm in Manchester so not sure what their selection is like?
Must remember to go on a weekday though to avoid the crowds.
Shops where you have to rummage though the crap to find the good usually frustrate me so badly, but I'm soon to become a student so I better get used to it!
(Also going to go to TK Maxx next to Primark to stock up on cheap exfotonic body scrub!!)
Desperately seeking - Gold effect brooch
NO.4. ask :
Desperately seeking - Gold effect brooch
Just picked out my Bridesmaid dress fo my friend Jo - it's a Faviana 5346 in Cobolt blue - perfect except the colour scheme for my wedding is blue and gold - so I want a gold brooch... I've searched high and low (well ok - I went to Debenhams, Tiffanies (no not THE Tiffanies!) and searched on the internet no joy as yet - any ideas?
Answer:
Oasis have a gold flower brooch set with cognac stones in the sale for £5 at the moment, but I'm not sure if the cognac would work with the blue.
They also have a gold flower brooch with sky blue and green petals - it's really pretty - for the same price, I don't know if it would match or not.
And definitely try Accessorize! It has helped me in many a dire I-need-to-find-a-perfect-match scenario!
Answer:
ebay
Answer:
What about a gold corsage fabric flower brooch?
Just as a guest, I often wear that sort of thing on suits and wraps for weddings and have bought quite a few in different colours.
Something like this or maybe something with lots of small silk flowers or buds in a cluster - can't find an example on the net but this is the type I have several of. They add colour while still looking weddingy.
Answer:
Thanks you guys - I'll try Accessorize - completely forgot about it (what a donut!).
Sakura - I was thinking about a flower instead - so if I can't get the brooch I'll deffo go for that!
:)
