Victoria's Secrets

NO.1. Ask :
Victoria's Secrets
hi,
i'm about to order a few things from victorias secrets website. Keropi informs me that a UK 14 is a US 10.
Maybe its because i cant get my head 'round buying a size 10, but are the american sizes quite in line with ours (even though i've jumped down 2 lol).
Has anyone bought anything from VS? What is their sizing like?
In Gap i am a Medium, in Next I am a 14, in Zara I am a Medium (vests)
can anyone offer any advice? A couple of items that i'm going to order arent available til feb but i do want to order now to get the sale price. however i dont want to have to send things back if too small if i've waited that long to get them in the first place. does that makes sense?
blimmin hell i'm confused and dont know what to do, i only want a couple of vests and long sleeved tees ffs!!!!
Answer:
HI PV
When I lived in NZ I ordered quite a few things from Victoria's Secret. AT the time I was a 10/12 (certainly smaller than I am now, and I fit a 12 in most ranges here).
I found the bras to be a good fit. The knickers, imho were TINY! I got completely flossed with the g strings (and I had ordered a size bigger than my normal size, i.e. a US 10 (I fit gap jeans in a US8. But only for the last few weeks ;) ).
I also bought a bikini and found the pants to be small.
I would go for a size bigger than usual for your tops, and if you are buying knickers (I daren't look at the website) buy TWO sizes bigger.
Here I can wear a M and S size 12 g string, but the Triumph one I ordered from Figleaves is a 14 and quite erm, firm (but wearable, just). I would buy a us 12 (UK 16) from Victoria's secret.
Has that confused you more? And will we ever see you over in Baby :p ?
Minky
Answer:
I thought a 14 in UK size is a 12 in USA size? I lived there for 9 months and was buying 14s (I WAS a 16 until I got preg). I'm sure you'll find a size converter if you look around on the net. Also, I think VS stuff comes up a bit small so if you're not a small 14 you might be better off ordering a size bigger.
Answer:
I've never bought anything from VS but what what I've gathered on makeupalley over the last couple of years ...
Quality can be a bit iffy and it's put a lot of people off ordering again. For this reason, I've never ordered anything myself as I don't want to pay international delivery and customs charges only to have to return something that isn't as good as it looks on the website and end up out of pocket.
The sizing runs small as everyone has said.
Answer:
thanks for your replies. i think i'll get a size up.
Minkykiwi - I'm always in baby, but just lurking for the time being:D
Dont think i'll be rejoining for at least a year...a fiery, headstrong 14 month old and a reluctance to put back on the 3 stone i've just lost being a couple of the reasons why!!

    NO.2. ask :
Tying Wrap Dresses - how do you do it?
Tonight I'll be wearing the same wrap dress I wore one night last week.
However, unlike last week, tonight I'd like to be able to get up from the table without the knot I tied having somehow wriggled itself undone while I ate (how did it do this?)
Tonight I'd like to walk out of the restaurant without trailing a two foot long tail on the floor which my brother-in-law firstly trod on and brought me to an abrupt halt and then loudly pointed out to all within earshot that 'something has gone really wrong' with my dress.
So this dress of mine has got what seems like 20 feet of sash and it's slithery silk or viscose or something that doesn't want to stay knotted and I don't know what to do with it.

Why do these dresses have so long a sash and how do I tie it to stop it coming undone again and cramping my style?
Last week I wrapped it several times around my waist crossing it over each time before bringing it to the side and doing a knot, a bow, a second knot, a second bow and knotting the bow ends ... and it STILL came completely undone while I was sat in a chair, and I was only eating spaghetti.
How are you all keeping these dresses fastened and what do you do with all that sash material?
    Answer:
I don't know, the long sash bit really annoys me too. When I get around to getting my dress taken up I'm going to see if they can do something about the sash. It sometimes hangs down longer than the dress does, which is daft.
(Maybe a well-concealed safety pin somewhere in the knot would help?)
    Answer:
ha! sorry but gut reaction i did laff out loud. you poor thing. sounds like something that would happen to me - and then be forced to put up with renditions at every opportunity my brother got  :D
i have 2 wrap dresses, and, even just for sanity's sake, always put a safety pin around the top by the 'cleavage' area, as wraps often have a habit of gaping and showing your undergarments - well, as has been in my case.
I tie the knot just in a bow, with the loops quite a bit shorter than the other hangy-downy bit. fortunately so far, this has kept it into place, but it has shown signs of escape.. i do try to keep an eye on it to tighten when needed but after a few drinks or if involved in an engaging 'debate' with a girlfriend this is often forgotten!
    :)
    Answer:
That's a good idea about the safety pin. I'll see if I can do something without putting big holes in the dress.
I don't know why these sashes are so loooong.
If you wrap them round your waist then you look like a sack of potatoes (well, not you in particular Ella :D ) and you lose half the flattering wrap effect.
If you don't wrap it round your waist but just tie it at the side or front then you have this vast length of material that you have to come up with way of tying that doesn't look clumsy and bulky but instead looks like you were just born knowing how to tie it stylishly and effortlessly.
    Which I obviously wasn't.
Half of Thame knows this now too.
    Answer:
Oh don't worry, I really do look like a sack of potatoes when I do that- I never wrap it all the way round. I wonder if they make the sashes extra-long because people have differently-sized waists and they expect people to cut the sashes to the right length? (I find a bow way too bulky personally.)

What to wear with light grey trousers?
I was given a lovely pair of light grey trousers for Christmas by my mum and dad - only problem is that I have no idea what sort of colour tops to team with them! I was thinking purple and lilac colours would go well but I only have short sleaved shorts in those colours which isn't really good for winter!
    Any ideas?
    Answer:
Dark red looks nice. And deep oranges and burgundies.
    Answer:
I've got some pale grey cords from FC which I love and I've worn loads. Shoe-wize I tend to wear with tan leather heels or metallic leather wedgies - sounds awful but looks good.
Top-wize I've worn them with a white shirt, off-white tunic with silver thread running through, pale blue and pale pink slouchy jumpers, black camisole, pale green shrug....... I find it goes well with quite icey pale colours or I treat it as a neutral and it goes with quite a bit. That said, my friend has real problems matching it with anything so I see your point. HTH. :)
    Answer:
Pink/lilac/mint green wrap cardi would look fab with light grey and shoes wise pointy shoes in same shade as the cardi/top?
