What would suit me??

NO.1. Ask :
What would suit me??
Please bear with me as this is my 1st post on fashion, i usually live over in Baby.
Since having my Daughter in December last year i have managed to loose all my baby weight and more but i am a hiddeous shape and just cant seem to fit into the sorts of clothes i used to wear.
Everything i try on looks silly and i just dont know what suits me. I used to be a jeans and tshirt fan but even jeans looks wrong, because of how big my ass is!!
A quick description of myself...
Im 5ft, small framed, bust size 30/32C, thickish waist (:() big arse and thighs, short legs (28"). Paints a lovely picture doesnt it. Im curently wearing either a size 10 or 12 depending where its from. Pre-baby i could easily get away with wearing sizes 6/8 :( :(
Im off on holiday in 3 wks and everything i have tried on from dresses, to skirts, to vest tops to trousers just look wrong. What sorts of things should i be looking at??
Im not a geat fan of high fashion, never have been, but i dont dress like my nan, i like most of the things in the shops atm, but bear in mind the fact i have a 7 month old baby so some stuff just isnt practical.
Please someone help me, i dont want to embarass my Daughter :(
Answer:
Hi PKM! Nice to see you over here! (I flirt between baby, fashion and beauty!!)
First off, I can totally sympathise with how you feel about your shape, but what everyone keeps saying to me is, you probably feel a lot worse than you look... I know you used to be really, really slim, but a 10-12 is still a lovely slim size. I guess your main concern (if you're like me) is the baby belly.
Seeing as your a tidgy little thing at 5ft, I'd avoid cropped anything like the plague. How about long, and I mean floor touching linen/cotton/jersey wide leg trousers with high wedges/sandals. Team this with figure skimming kaftan style tops in cheesecloth/thin cotton/linen, etc. There's so much of this stuff in the sales, you should be spoilt for choice! Go for a sequinned/beaded top to feel glam and pile on the accessories, such as wooden beads and bangles.
As for skirts/dresses, how about the maxi length skirts that are everywhere? A wide belt slung over a slouchy vest might make you feel better about your tum.
hope this helps, PKM.

Answer:
ok, one thing that immediately springs to mind is trousers:
I think (just my opinion!), that given that you're on the short side, and you've got a good bust, that you need to go with something on the bottom half that is going to elongate your body. Spring/Summer I'd be thinking linen trews - super comfy, will keep from one year to the next, and can be dressed up or down. I think that the shape of the trousers would be important, and you should be looking for something with a wide-ish straight leg (relaxed fit for day like the lovely River Island ones, more tailored fit for night-time like the Principles/Oasis ones). The length is important, as to make the most of your height, I think that you should go for wedges to bring yourself up a little (not huge clumpy ones, but nice wearable rope soled ones (there's a beige strappy pair in Dorothy's sale at the moment which would go with everything). Make sure that the end of your trousers are sitting just about an inch above the ground. this will lengthen your legs and streamline your shape.
As an alternative to wear with your wedges, Penny's have some really nice bias cut linen skirts at the moment. Get a couple of those, try them on with your wedges, and use safety pins to try different lengths (I think that on shorter people, just below the knee is often a good length) - then just wundaweb the hem up when you get the length that suits.
In terms of tops, I think you could try:
Kaftans - yes, they swamp us shorties sometimes, but again, get cheaper ones in the sales and TAKE the SLEEVES up to 3/4 length. It's a amazing what a difference this makes to the proportions of a kaftan, suddenly it doesn't look like it's swamping you any more. Also, a good length for them (if you're not getting one from a petite section already) when you're on the short side is I think about 3/4 inches above your knee. Always wear only with trousers and your wedges (shape would not look right with a skirt or anything too voluminous).
Wrap tops - Debenhams usually have some nice little short sleeve chiffony wrap tops in their sales. They're great for curvy busts, look good all year round with linen trews or jeans. I like the fact that they hug the body shape rather than floating around it.
T shirts - for hols, try for good quality vests (**** sale, Oasis sale, Principles sale) - when you've got a decent bust you can't get away with the Primark 3 pound jobs. You need something that is going to keep it's shape and emphasise your curves rather than turning into a shapeless piece of cotton after 2 hours wearing it. Vests will look prettier when you're away too when you're wearing your bikini top under them instead of a bra.
Something that I'm currently using with vest tops also is short sleeved front tie boleros. I have a nice baby pink knit one from Warehouse, but instead of tying the two front pieces (which emphasises my bust), I leave them hanging to the front (which looks more relaxed and actually conceals my bust slightly - I always feel that emphasising a large bust when you're short actually makes you look shorter).
For proper t-shirts, try and get something with 3/4 sleeves if you can. I find myself that normal 'short' sleeves can sometimes emphasise across my bust making it seem bigger which I don't like, whereas 3/4 sleeves emphasise my arm from the elbow down which is delicate looking.
I'm sure that you want a holiday wardrobe that is going to be functional and easy to work with given that you've a new baby, so maybe your first stop should be to decide on what your colour scheme should be? that way you can ensure that everything matches and you can come up with many variations?
p.s. sorry for the long reply :o :o :o

Sorry if this is a bit bitchy, heehee, but a fashion crime has just walked past my window! How's this:
White flouncy gipsy skirt (short) fastened very high on the waist, accompanied by white frilly prairie-type corset top, plastic disc belt to set it all off...on a woman about 40 with an orange tan, bleached hair and an acid green scrunchie  oh and don't forget the white cowboy boots!
I mean, you wouldn't go out dressed like this and be surprised if people noticed, would you?

he he he - her 3 ugly daughters passed me this morning.
3 of them - all tweenagers - 1 pushing the obligatory burberry clad baby in it's buggy. - and all 3 were wearing MATCHING white parairie outfits:sick: . white - too tight - vests with obvious push up bras, disk belt in acid colours, white cheap and nasty prairie skirt and didn't see the shoes - but can only assume they were primark £3 flipflops with mega sequins or plastic cowboy boots:lol:
eta - if only prairie skirts came in burberry check:rolleyes:
    Answer:
I seriously wanted to call the fashion police yesterday while I was in Leeds. I saw two girls (seperately mind, they weren't together) in skin tight jersey white bandeau dresses that barely covered their arses. Both girls were not exactly fat, but they weren't exactly toned either. So you could see their stomachs and arses wobble with every step.

Just bought a fab Miu Miu bag (see pic! in what I bought this week) but it didn't come with a dustbag (probably coz it was in the sale!). I've already checked ebay in hope of even a fake one but nothing. Does anyone know where I can buy a dustbag or suggest anything to keep it in beucase it is so beautiful and soft I am scared of marking it by stuffing it in the wardrobe
    Answer:
HK bag lady sent me a whole bunch of large dustbags. You could try emailing or PM-ing her.
    Answer:
I would either try to make one or try somewhere like lakeland or ikea as they usually do storage things like that.
    Answer:
Thanks for the advice girls but I think I have a solution!
I was asking my mum and she suggested a pillowcase. She had some old flannel pillowcases which are really soft so I think I am going to use one of those.

Wardrobe - varies, so have lots of different kind of outfits etc..
    Shoes etc...
    Come on girls helllllllpppppp
    Thanks in advance
    Answer:
I have been to Prague twice and people don't seem to get that dressed up to go out - but I did anyway becasue I wanted to!! One bit of advice though is that there are loads of cobbled streets which is not great for high heels!
    Answer:
I have to second that! I brought boots and regretted it!
    Answer:
I love Praha and my first time there was nearly 10 years ago!
Anyway, do bring confortable shoes (as per suggestions and cobble stones wreck your shoes! I have the same problem here in south europe and always tip-toe like a mad woman! ), bring jeans, warm jacket/cardis for evenings, easy to wear bag as you will be strolling around, hat for a funky look!
(and do take lots of pictures by the castle“s colourful little cottages, walk by Charles bridge at evening time, very goth and ghostly like, and wait to see the clock figures come out at the old town square while sipping some hot chocolate! Muscha paintings are gorgeous so get at least one copy and wooden toys are quite sweet too!)
    ;)
Enjoy your 4 days in Praha!

    Answer:
I don't understand what is wrong with what you are already wearing honey! I've been an 18 so understand that it can feel like you're the only one out there and that all there is to do is covering it all up. But please don't hide away - a lot of it is trial .and error
I hate the whole boho thing but one of the good things about it is the amount of tops that cover up stomachs ( I suspect that even stick thin girlies are paranoid about their tummies and I bet you anything that yours isn't as bad as you think it is). Anyway, I hate boho as a complete look (bl**dy gypsy skirts:mad:   ) but it is one of the most democratic looks there have been for ages and you can easily find bits and bobs from this kind of look and combine with the more tailored and figure hugging look. Even if you hate your arms there are tons of gorgeous shrugs around which mean you can wear tops underneath that you might never consider.
One of the main things is please don't cover yourself up too much in that way that a lot of girls do with shapeless tunics and kaftans - focus on what is good - I assume because you wear V necks that you have good tits so highlight them and people wont notice your tummy. Things are getting a lot more tailored this season which can be good for curvier girls as it highlights good bits like tits and bums - but I still like to slightly cover things up with more skimmy hems.
There are some things that you are never going to wear - I will never wear drainpipes and I don't care.
One of the good things at the moment is that there are some really cheap shops around at the moment. I wouldn't go to Primark for anything special but it is a good place to experiment clothewise - they and New Look go up to, at least, 18 and you can play with styles and colours there as they're so cheap.
It is worth spendkng more on nice things like coats (places like Boden are good quality and definitely go up to an 18) and jackets to flatter your shape.
I can't offer to help because I am absolutely HOPELESS when it comes to clothes. I love them but they don't love me..... But I just wanted to reply to say that a) I am sure that you aren't as bad as you think and that b) there are loads of fun clothes to play with at the moment.
    I'm sure you're gorgeous honey!!!!

    Answer:
You don't look like an 18! You've got a great face and lovely shiny hair (I used to HATE it when people said that to me) and even though you're sitting down you look like you have good pins...... I genuinely can't see what is wrong with the way you are already. I am particualrly jealous of your height - cos I am a shortarse! Have fun with clothes and enjoy your body - there are tons of things that you can get away with that skinnier girls can't - even if they CAN get away with drainpipes!
You say you wear jeans - you can easily girlify them up with a nice top and a shrug to cover any arm issues you have. Monsoon have currently got 70% off all their sale prices - there are still some things that you might like. I normally find them way too expensive for the quality but come sale time I can happily spend spend spend.....
PLease appreciate how good looking you already are and just learn to have fun with clothes!
