The weekend
I gigured that it is thursday so okay to ask what everyone will be up to at the weekend, and what they will be wearing.
I will mostly be having a boring weekend as everyone except me and Mr. Ellie are going to Reading, and I need to crack on with beginning my dissertation, so will just be wearing jeans etc.
On saturday Mr. Ellie and I are supposed to be going to look at rings, so, if this happens I will be wearing drainpipes made from a pair of lee jeans, long blue top with sequins on shoulder from TS, and weather dependent, either my gold leather sandals or black chunky heeled boots. Not sure about accessories yet.
Answer:
Oooh I love these threads!!
On Saturday night I'm going out for my friends b'day meal and a few drinks so am thinking of wearing my new distressed denim drainpipes, long layered navy loose fit vest over a white long layered vest, tan peep toe heels and probably bronze earings and bronze bangles - keeping it simple I think.
On Sunday night I'm going to a club so am thinking of wearing denim or black shorts, long layered white vest under a cropped black flower print top, which has long flowy sleeves and ties at the front with my tan peep toes again or my bronze wedges with black chunky belt (if it goes) and the usual beeds and bangles.
I have my going out outfit ideas planned but not my casual ones!
Answer:
Oooo, ring shopping, how exciting!!! Congratulations, BTW :D
For once, I'm actually having quite an active weekend: going out for dinner with some friends on Saturday and to the ballet on Sunday. For dinner, I'm probably going to wear a black geeky tee shirt, dark denim mini, silver ballet pumps, black blazer, black skinny scarf with matt silver sequins and beads and a big silver here. Depending on the weather, I may swap the ballet pumps for chunky black boots and opaques.
On Sunday, I haven't decided yet. One option is a knee length brown skirt with scattered brown sequins, minty green Mary Janes and a minty green tee shirt or cute cream top with a waistcoat and lots of beads, tan suede blazer if necessary, big hot pink here. The other is for straight-legged jeans, a slouchy crocheted tunic belted over a cream tee shirt, a plum waistcoat, chunky wooden painted bangles, plum suede Mary Janes, same jacket if needed and a battered old tan here.
I seem to have an obsession with waistcoats at the moment...

I've been most remiss the last couple of weeks at not starting these! ;)
Saturday doing DIY with the Olds so ancient Levis and one of Mr Toosh's work tops. Not going out on Saturday night so will just lounge around in Juicy bottoms and hoodie (as our summer seems to have disappeared)
Sunday hoping to spend the day with Mr Toosh just doing housey things ie, food shopping  so probably just cas stuff.
Going out with the girls on Sunday night for a big boozy sess :whoop: :yay: Planning on wearing dark blue Patty Anne drainpipes, long white vest, cream waistcoat with chocolate brown stripes, cream cracked leather belt, very high tan strappy heels, tan vintage clutch, my new glass beads, big gold hoops and two wide bangles (as you can see it is the one highlight of my weekend so I've my outfit planned with military precision already :o )
Monday I shall mostly be nursing my monstrous hangover so clothes will be neither here nor there!
Have a fab weekend everyone :)

Hi!
Have some french/italian friends over this weekend so will be mostly be playing ´host´during evenings at some favorite spots:
-Friday: dinner at one of my fave restaurants in the old town (which has some weird decorative styles in baroche, arabic/morrocan, deco styles all mixed up! ) followed by either funky chinese bar/club - will probably wear my denim dg mini skirt or denim city shorts, cream ruffled horizontally at the front strappy baby-doll like top, leopard print strappy wedges, thick leather belt, leopard print cardi (pink and beige one)!
-Saturday: need to get a few decorative bitsbobs for the house with my o/h and probably going to the beach during afternoon and dinner/dancing at night as usual on saturdays: will probably wear city shorts, halterneck/vest top and small heels when shopping or havaianas if going to the beach. For dinner will wear a blackwhite sleveless knee length dress with matching heels as havent worn it yet this summer!
-Sunday: no idea yet as depends on whether it will be good enough to be at the pool or beach
- :) Looking forward to the weekend anyway!!!

Help with quality of clothes
NO.3. ask :
Help with quality of clothes
How can I tell if the clothes I'm looking at are good quality? Sometimes, I think it's good but then after I've worn it for a while, it turns out to be crap. I'd love to hear what I should look for when buying tees, sweaters, shirts, pants, and shoes. Thanks.
Answer:
Hi nickel
I don't look for anything in particular with tees and trousers, but there are shops I just won't buy them from. Usually if it's very cheap it won't last (although there's probably exceptions). I also only buy tees if they look very long because then even if they do shrink a bit it's not too bad.
I find shops that are good for basic tees are dorothy perkins, gap and oasis. They all keep their shape and colour well. I wouldn't bother buying basic tops from topshop or new look because in my experience they don't wash well.
If you look closely at lots of stuff you will begin to notice what looks well-made and what doesn't. I have learned the hard way about what is worth buying! :p

Answer:
Fabric: Natural fibres - cotton, silk, leather, wool, cashmere, angora etc tend to last better and wash better than acrylic, nylon, viscose etc etc, that's what I look for anyway.
Answer:
For jersey tees etc, the thicker the fabric the better in my experience.
Also good cut, if it's generous when you buy it, it will end up looking baggy.
Agree with Bella, natural fabrics are best, or if it's a mix, the higher the % of natural fabric, the better.
Answer:
It's a really difficult one. The only conclusion I have come to is that it doesn't seem to be proportional to how much things cost!
Some fairly expensive shops sell stuff which is IMO quite bad quality - **** being a prime culprit.
If it's just basic tees and tops in different clours you're after then I think the ones in GAP are good but also places like M S as they have high standards for quality.
It's also how well you care for your clothes as well. If you're constantly putting them on a mega hot wash and tumble-drying them to b*ggery then after a while they are going to start to lose their shape and colour. A friend who works in fashion also told me not to use fabric conditioner on synthetics - not too sure why but apparently it's not that great for them.
For shoes always buy leather. I think Jones is a really good place for shoes - boots I had from there lasted 2 whole years before they needed so much as a new heel. I also buy loads of cheap ones from New Look but I don't expect them to last as long as they are very cheap!
city shorts
NO.4. ask :
city shorts
I finally gave in and bought a pair of long pinstriped city shorts - that actually look not too bad on. but not sure if they are just too fashioney for a rep job? I was thinking of wearing them with thick or patterened tights and a smart shirt. just not sure if it is too big a step away from my standard issue black trousers/fitted shirt . do you think I should keep them or take them back to the shop?
Answer:
I'm a huge fan of city shorts and yours sound great! Where are they from by the way? I don't think they will be too smart, I wear mine to my office job. Most people there are fairly casual and I've received quite a few comments about them.
Also love the idea of pairing them with tights...I was wondering how to make use of them all through A/W so thanks :)

Answer:
I have a pair of pinstripe ones and they're one of my staple 'office wear' items. Definitely not too trendy, especially if you wear them with tights.

funky white shirts
NO.5. ask :
funky white shirts
I was thinking the other day whilst watching America's sweethearts how classy and funky a nice crisp white shirt is - prefeably with big collars and cuffs.....
now I need to know where to buy one from? Anyone got any ideas?
Answer:
Interno 8 (branches on Conduit Street, Beauchamp Place, Fulham Road and other London locations - not sure if outside London) do DIVINE shirts for men and women with big collar/cuff details. Great for work shirts that are a bit unusual. I am not sure if all branches have women's shirts, I've only been to the Conduit Street branch and they did there. Quite pricey, think it's £100+ for a shirt tho they have ongoing sales. Great cut and quality if you're looking for an investment.
On a cheaper note, I bought a fab white shirt from HM with a big collar and cuffs, with tie detail around the cuffs and a detachable tie (big bow) for only £14.99.
Answer:
Hm hm, that HM shirt sounds fabulous, PC. Did you buy it recently?
Thomas Pink do nice white shirts, but they're pricy too. There's also an amazing shop in Edinburgh (I think it's just called the Anne Fontaine shop) which does stunning white shirts (and nothing else, if I remember correctly). No use if you don't live in Edinburgh though...

Answer:
White shirts are a bit of a never-ending quest, aren't they? I often think men's shirts tend to look better on - just because they're normally made from thicker fabric and therefore look more expensive.
I saw a gorgeous white tuxedo shirt (with the pleats down the front) in H and M Menswear the other day and remember thinking it would have looked great on a girl with jeans/black trousers and heels.
Ralph Lauren are lovely fabric but overpriced. Gap have good ones in every now and again, but not consistently.
The hunt goes on.....;)
Answer:
Problem I find with wanting to invest in a pricey white shirt is that they never stay bright white for very long - however much they have cost?
Its always put me off buying the higher end brands.
