Can I ever stop being a mess? Please help
I really can't be bothered with my appearance. It has got to the point now where my parents don't want to associate with me. I was supposed to be going to visit my parents this weekend, but my mum has now told me I have to get new clothes if I am going to go, because she will be having other guests and people tend to assume I am homeless and offer me money and jobs to help me out :o
I like to go shopping, but I just wear the same stuff all the time. I can't look decent in clothes because I am overweight, but I don't seem to be in the right frame of mind to lose weight.
I work from home a lot of the time, so I don't need to make an effort for that. Someone suggested that I should try to get dressed up to work at home to feel more professional, but when I do that it takes me half the day and I don't get any work done. When I do work outside the house, it either involves waterproofs and wellies, or a very conservative suit, so there isn't much opportunity to vary that.
Today I was planning to try to make some sort of small effort, by drying my hair, but I got sidetracked and not only is it still wet, but I can't even be bothered to comb it, so it just looks like a decomposing rodent on my head.
If I try to make an effort with clothing, I always feel as though I'm dressed up as my mother. I think I will only ever be able to wear very simple clothes. I buy a lot of more adventurous items, but they always look dreadful on me. The only things which I seem happy in are:
V-neck jersey and jeans
T-Shirt and jeans
Jeans with flat shoes
Jeans with high heeled ankle boots
Not very imaginative really, is it? I'm not really bothere about trying to look fashionable, but I'd like to be less of an embarrassment to my family and my OH.
If I do try to wear different clothes, or make-up I just feel ridiculous and have to scrub my face, or change clothes before I leave the house.
Now, if I was reading this, I would assume the person writing it was depressed, but I assure you that isn't the case.
The main problems are:
1) Sheer laziness
2) A feeling that as I'm a bit of a moose there isn't much point making any sort of effort at all. I'm not bothered about trying to look attractive, I just feel I ought to look 'smart', but when I try I just look like my mother.
Am I doomed to be like this forever, or is it possible to change? I'm 35 and this just isn't amusing any more :(
Answer:
Oh EM. :(
You ain't no moose. :(
To be honest being casual is okay - if you are comfy with that then everyone should accept you for who you are.
"V-neck jersey and jeans
T-Shirt and jeans
Jeans with flat shoes
Jeans with high heeled ankle boots"
All sounds fine to me - as far as I am concerned as long as your clothes are clean and neat then that's what matters to me appearance wise.
Maybe experiment with different styles of jeans - different dyes, lengths, cuts. Some jeans can really knock pounds off and make you look a size smaller.
Also t-shirts - for instance different necklines make a huge difference - I look mumsy in high crew necks as my boobs are big but look 100 times better in a scoop or v neck.
Experiment with colours also.
Maybe the odd accessorie - earings, a bangle etc. Nothing ott but just a little something can make an outfit but still keep that casual look.
As for you hair - why don't you think about getting it cut in a style that when you wash it, it doesn't really matter if you comb it or not - just a bit of wax through when it is dry?
Make-up - don't bother if you don't like it - just maybe use a tinted lip balm.
I wouldn't change totally - maybe just work on what you are happy with.

Hello my lovely.
I'm stuck in a clothes rut too and always worried that if I deviate from my boring normal clothes that I'll look like a fashion victim who can't really carry off the latest style.
One thing I was considering was booking an appointment with a personal shopper at a big department store, to get some new ideas about clothes from someone objective. Might that be an idea?
You don't have to buy anything, although this might not be a good idea for someone who is easily persuaded because you could end up with loads of threads you will never wear.
ETA: pop into a book shop and have a look at Tranny Suzannah's "what not to wear" books. If you can get over the two of them being really annoying they actually make some good recommendations about which cuts of clothes suit different figures and you might get some good ideas.
xx
Answer:
'coloured' lip balm - I can really recommend Nivea Lip Care Velvet Rose. It gives your lips a sheen and it feels wonderful!
Do you have pierced ears? There are loads of great earrings around in the sales at the moment. I got some really pretty silver and pink stud ones from Superdrug of all places!

Oh dear. My boyfriend's brother is similar. They are identical twins, so look exactly the same, however his brother always looks a bit of a mess. They both wear jeans and t-shirts, his brother does usually look like a tramp. (I feel like a b*tch writing this).
He works nights, so doesn't make any effort. Usually t-shirts and jeans off the floor. He doesn't brush his hair or shave very often. Fine for nights, but in the day he looks homeless.
Same hair, body, clothes. But one looks homeless and the other doesn't.
I reckon it's fine if you wear jeans and v-necks as that's what you're comfortable in. Just treat yourself to a couple of nice flattering pairs of jeans and v-necks in a variety of colours. Keep them looking neat and clean and you can't go wrong. Never wear dirty clothes and replace anything that's looking shabby. Flat ballet pumps are comfy and can dress them up as well - and should make sure you still look youthful! Also try a pair of flat pointy shoes in a bright colour. They will jazz up a plain outfit and again, keep it youthful. Throwing out anything that looks old and tatty will be a major step - and replacing basics like V-necks isn't costly.
If you don't like jewellery, then don't bother. And if you don't like makeup - then don't go suddenly for full slap. Just start with tinted lip gloss and slowly add more into your routine as you get used to it.
As for hair, it can make the world of difference. If you can't be bothered with it as it is, then definitely get a haircut. A simple bob can look very chic and you only need to wash it. I hate hair product and can't be arsed, I have long hair and I just let it air dry on the way to work and it's nice and wavy by the time I get here. Any hairdresser will give you a very low-maintenace cut if you ask for it.
I don't think I've been very helpful, just stating the obvious. Sorry.
I suppose I just wanted to say that if you suddenly change your hair, makeup, and clothes one day you will feel very uncomfortable (like the women on Trinny and Susanah's show). However, if you treat yourself to a few new tops in a style you're comfortable with, get low maintenance hair, and a tube of tinted lip balm then you'll still be you, just a slightly improved you. The major changes can then follow.
Chin up.
Cowboy/Straw Hats

Cowboy/Straw Hats
Hey, any ideas where I can get a really nice Cowboy hat??
Want to get one for my holiday, love the whole bikini/beach/hat look!
Any suggestions???
Answer:
Mr PC got a fantastic one from Portobello mkt for £10. It's made of navy material and navy straw so a bit unusual and it has a shape-able brim, so you can bend it into a shape that's flattering for your face.
He's had loads of compliments on it and I think he looks quite hot in it :flirt:
Answer:
My boyfriend got me a really good one from TK MAXX !!!!! It's crushable so i can chuck it in my case and then when i take it out it pops straight back into shape - great!
They also have some in Accessorize, and i think they were doing a dark one for men which is really nice!
Ooh also, Mr SP got his own from Burtons of all places!! (He never shops in there but i saw it in the window as we walked by so we snook in to purchase!) It's quite big but looks good on and you can shape the brim which is good - he looks ever so bloody sexy in it! ;)

Hair dilemma - again!!
NO.3. ask :
Hair dilemma - again!!
Ok, totally O/T, but do you think i should go back blonde???
I know you dont know what i look like so cant really comment, but i'm really bored with my hair again and want some inspiration please ladies!
Here's the background....I am naturally the very lightest blonde, therefore i have very blonde eyebrows, very pale scalp etc...but i got bored with my blonde hair back in January after 21 years and decided to put the first bit of dark in it it had ever seen! Of course i couldn't do it gradually - i went straight to a really dark chocolate brown! Everybody told me nt to as it wouldn't suit me, but as soon as i'd had it done nearly everybody said it looked better!
Howevere, i have loved it dark but because i have such a pale scalp i keep thinking i look like i've got bald patches, plus i have to get it re-done every 4 weeks which isn't cheap, and i tried doing it at home last time which resulted in me getting purple roots - which i still have!
So, should i go to the salon and get a really dark chcolate put back over it, or shall i be brave again and try and go back light? Obviously not as light as before, maybe a honey colour a la Nicole Richie or Ms Moss ???? I dont want to look too blah though - i like to look quite striking which is why i had really blonde then really dark !!
Plus i want a new cut but have no idea how!
Opinions please girls.
Thank yuooooo!:p

Need some opinions on these shoes

Need some opinions on these shoes
I think my judgement may have been clouded by the fact that the Faith website actually have some Size 7 shoes in the sale, so if these are all horrible then please tell me. I'm saving up for the Topshop pirate boots anyway, so really shouldn't be buying shoes, but here goes:
Pair 1
Pair 2 (Also In Green)
Pair 3 (Also In Brown)
Pair 4 (Also In Beige)
Thanks in advance :)
Answer:
i like pair 4 in the brown!! very nice - others not quite my thing...sorry!
Answer:

not so much, bit too cowboy for me
Pair 2 (Also In Green)
loving them in green, bit less style-ised than the ones above
Pair 3 (Also In Brown)
love these, tried them on myself a while back but plumped for similar ones from topshop in end. wish i'd gone for these because the heel was a better height.
Pair 4 (Also In Beige)
not so keen on these but thats just my personal taste.
Thanks in advance :)
Answer:
Like the rest said - pair 4 are lovely, rest I wouldn't personally wear but wouldn't laugh at someone who did! ;)
Bikini help please!
NO.5. ask :
Bikini help please!
Hello Fashion,
I don't come in here very often but thought you girls might be able to help me...
I'm looking for a bikini for the larger cup size (ahem).
I realise it's not a great time of year to start looking but we've only just booked an unexpected holiday.
I'm a 34H but my bottom half is only a size 12 so trying to find anything that will fit all of me is always a challenge!
I will also be 25 weeks pregnant by the time of holiday but don't want to go down the maternity swimwear route - you don't usually see bikinis tbh and it's not really necessary as you can fit the bottoms under your bump.
I've been trying to have a look on-line but can't remember any websites. I have tried Figleaves but they had nothing in my size at all.
Any help would be gratefully received :)
Answer:
How about a tankini? I like the fact that they give a bit more coverage for a fuller figure.
I've seen some lovely swimwear in MS, and they seem to have lots of varied cup sizes and everything is bought separately, so you could get a co-ordinating set with Bikini top, tankini top, small briefs and boy shorts cut briefs? and a kaftan and sarong to co-ordinate the whole lot for you.
I like the fact that they do proper cup sizes.
Answer:
Have you tried Bravissimo? Quite expensive and I think they only go up to a G in swimwear but I think that'll be your best option.
Answer:
Well, thanks very much!
Had a look at M and S but the biggest cup size they had was an F.
I thought I'd have a look at Bravissimo and as luck would have it they had some stuff in the sale so I've ordered a really nice 36H bikini top and size 12 bottoms all for £34.
Brilliant.
Answer:
I thought MS did huge sizes cause when I was looking for stuff for myself in their sales last week all I could find were bras that fitted my head:o I was disgusted cause they were all gorgeous, just too big.
Maybe they're swim range doesn't go as high as their undies.
Least you got sorted elsewhere though!;)
