Meeting his best female friend, aargh - help!!
I'm meant to be going for a drink with my bloke and his best female friend. She's one of these who knows *everything* about him (which yes, does make me feel slightly jealous :o but that's a different thread altogether!) as she's known him years. She lives miles away though so I've never met her and now she's up visiting.
So really - what on earth can I wear?! It'll just be a quiet drink probably in a quiet pub, so I'm a bit stumped.
I'm thinking either jeans or shorts (although with this rain my jeans keep soaking up the rain, yuk), but I don't know.
Please help! I'm desperate to make a good impression, as for some reason I've convinced myself that what she thinks of me is really really important! :(
Answer:
I would say jeans or gauchos, as I normally laugh at girls who go out in shorts when it's p-ing down. If you get caught out fair enough, but to go out like that just makes me chuckle.
I've forgotten your recent shopping trip list, but is there anything in there that's semi-casual, but dressy enough to make you feel like you've made an effort but still looks like you've just thrown it together look fabulous?
When doing this sort of meeting, I always stick to things that are casual depending on location things I love so I feel confident in them. I have enough to worry about with worrying about a top going funny on me. :)
Answer:
Agree, jeans or gauchos!
Team with a little simple vest, a cute blazer or shrug and wicked accessories. I'd go for some big earrings and some bangles.
If she's nice she'll probably comment on your gorgeous earrings/bracelet and it will get the ball rolling conversation wise :)
Answer:
I'm not a fan of gauchos (cue me being shot ;) ) but I have plenty of pairs of smart/casual shorts. And by shorts I meant knee length, not short shorts! :)
Thanks for the advice, I'll have a think about it.
Any more suggestions are more than welcome, as well as tips for keeping myself sane in the situation!! :p From what I hear she's lovely, so I'm half looking forwards to it, it's just a bit scary, especially considering she knows him so well.
Answer:
Jeans tucked into boots, to stop the bottom of your jeans getting wet? Or just turning them up with some pumps?
I'd go with casual, as someone has said, vest, blazer etc. And then some really nice unusual accessories.
Or maybe a really eyecatching bag?
ETA: That was really no help at all.
How about a waistcoat? Or just go abit autumny with a plain v-neck sweater, with said jeans tucked into boots. Don't get too worked up about it, I'm sure it'll be great whatever you wear.:)
Or you could get an 'old favourite' out of the wardrobe that always works and you feel comfortable in.

I don't understand how anyone could pay over £100 for those boots. They're like a bad 80s flashback nightmare.

Just got a fab bargain in Selfridges - some knee high "wine" coloured boots for £37 - reduced from £125. I love them! Only prob is, other than under jeans, and with my black wrap dress, I have no idea what to wear them with! I know you wise baggers will have all sorts of inspirational ideas - so -over to you!!!
Answer:
I'm bumping this up because I've seen a pair in wine and a pair in dark red that I'm considering buying but have no clue what to wear them with. Can't tuck jeans into them as my calves are too big, so other options welcome for me. :)
Answer:
i personally would try and steer away from the black and wine combo. its such a rich colour and black isn't, that i think it would deaden it.
i'd try for chocolate browns, rust, maybe a print dress that has autumnal shades in it? dusky pink (no, not from head to toe!) looks good with this colourtoo. poss olive green, but would have to suck and see!?
do you have a pic of the boots would love to see 'em?
Answer:
what about grey, used as a neutral with a wine top/knitwear and your boots. Then accessories in wine, grey and whatever other colour takes your fancy!
I intend using my grey trousers with teal, plum/wine and any other strong colour I can't figure out what to wear with!

Answer:
Thanks for bumping this dolphins! Prof Vanessa - I see what you mean about black, having finally read Trinny and Susannah - but when I tried them on together Mr Sindy was v impressed! I like the sound of chocolate brown - would it be ok to just wear a chocolate brown outfit or would it need to be a choc brown AND burgundy coloured outfit?
I've got a really nice olive green skirt, which style wise would go well with the boots, but what should I wear on top?
Mellymel - I also really like the sound of pairing them with grey trousers; hadn't considered that at all.
Thanks guys - any more ideas?
A belting question...

A belting question...
...te he he.
:p
How do you all store your belts? I have loads, but they always end misshapen as I keep them in a pile in the bottom of my wardrobe :o
Sorry for the title, I'm in a strange mood today ;)
Answer:
I keep mine all rolled up and stored in a drawer - I have one of those plastic storage drawer things in my dressing room, each drawer has different bits bobs :)
Answer:
Mine are looped over a mirror in my bedroom, it's a good job I have other mirrors because I can hardly see this one now! Not the best storage for them, although it's easy to see what I have, so I'd be interested to hear what others do with theirs too...
Answer:
I hook the buckle through the top of a hanger (the bit that makes them hang!) and hang them in my wardrobe :)
Answer:
I roll mine up and store them in a drawer.
But I think they should be kept straight.
Urban outfitters - very impressed
NO.5. ask :
Urban outfitters - very impressed
I bought this skirt from urban outfitters on tuesday, having wanted it for about 3-4 months and didn't get it in philadelphia... I was so surprised to find it and didn't batter an eyelid at paying the $58 for it.
Went back to the shop on thursday and found it in the sale section for $29.99... my head went
I took it to the till and explained that I bought it 2 days before at full price and the girl said no problem, bring it back and we'll refund the difference! ok, so I thought I'd better go back to the hotel and unpack my suitcase and hope i'd still had the receipt... then remembering I still had it as I was there to return some black gauchos.
I mentioned I had the receipt on me, so she said I didn't need the skirt and then she refunded the difference for me then and there!!!
I was so impressed with this, I have never tried this over here and can't think of any store over here that would do this for you, without even seeing the item either!
Anyone else had this before?
Answer:
Unfortunately not, but that's fab customer service! Makes a nice change!
Answer:
Doesn't Gap do this?
I bought a skirt from Gap, which was reduced in the sale, and they refunded me the difference. Although, this was about 5 years ago... don't buy from Gap anymore.
Answer:
It's common policy in most US stores to be honest. It's just considered good customer service. If you've got the receipt they really don't need to see the item as the product number is normally printed on the receipt. They can usually match it up pretty quickly (sales folks are normally required to know what's in the sales) and can refund the difference right onto your card or give you cash back.
Answer:
Not had it happen to me, but that's a good policy!
