Sixties party
Hi,
I've been invited to a 60's fancy dress party next week, but don't have a clue what to wear! I can't imagine that people are going to make a huge effort, so does anyone have any ideas of an sixties-esque outfit? Nothing OTT
thanks! I'm lacking in ideas at the moment :(
Answer:
You can go early 60's - Think monochrome - black and white, short shift dresses, plastic jewellery, knee high boots, shorts or late 60's - bit of flower power :hippy:, big flares, floaty tops, bell sleeves, platforms.
Quite handy as there's a lot of the above floating around at the mo anyway in the shops.
Get yourself a wig and you can't go wrong!

watch austin powers for some inspiration!
Id love to go to a 60's party , ive got a beautiful 60's vintage dress from LA .. it just hangs on my wall being gorgeous!
Answer:
i went to a 60s bash i while back - big quiffed hair, liquid eyeliner, black babydoll dress, white plastic earrings, and blackwhite stripy belt and white plastic shoes...i actually felt quite stylish!!:p
Answer:
a lot of the warhol-esque stuff that's around right now will do - skinny jeans or a mini skirt and stripy t, with big oversizes beads and masses and masses of black eyeliner. oh and a beehive if you have the hair for a good backcombing.:yay:
Mimi, Sp and anyone else with a 'tea towel' scarf!
NO.2. ask :
Mimi, Sp and anyone else with a 'tea towel' scarf!
I got one of these for Christmas and I really like it as its red and white and I feel I am all black and greyed out at the moment but I'm not sure how to tie it. At the moment I am wearing it 'Biggles' style just chucked over my shoulder with a vintage black bomber but I am sure there is a better way as it keeps slipping off!

B have you tried a 'dick turpin' kind of effect, but sloucing lower round your neck - so you dont look like you've just sneaked out of the priory :p
eta: sorry about the .bmp i'm on mr pv's laptop and can't work it out i'm too used to macs :cmdunno:

I've been slightly put off getting one of these (which is a shame as I quite like them) because one of the senior partners at work wears one - and as he is about 19 stone, and comes in most mornings dressed in his bike leathers, it is not a particularly good look on him!
Work pary outfit - Chinese new year theme
NO.3. ask :
Work pary outfit - Chinese new year theme
Evening all
I've got my work annual party a week Friday they have just announced that it will be Chinese New Year Themed we must wear black, red or gold.
Am not impressed as I have already bought a gorgeous green dress to wear
I have a black cowl neck, knee length dress with a lace up back. I though of teaming it with gold strappy sandals (which I don't have) and red bag/jewellery which (I also do not have) but I only have a max of £25.
I was going to put my hair in a messy bun held with chopsticks.
Thought suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
Answer:
What's the green dress like? maybe you could dress it up with a black, red or gold obi belt ( i think it's japanese but what the heck...).
However, having said that, if you're there are going to be people with Chinese heritage there it is worth knowing that they consider green to be the colour of bad luck and poor prosperity.
I would wear the black dress with a red obi belt and chopsticks in the hair (although black is said to be bad luck too- but they stipulated it so :p ).
Hope this helps, x
oh, just found this site

How about a chinese dress? there is some beautiful ones one ebay?
like this
Answer:
Thanks but I was really hoping to jazz up my black dress as I only have silver or pink shoes with me so I neeed new shoes/jewellery etc my budget is tight. Also since its a week a half away its would be getting anything here on time. I can squeeze in one hours shopping between now the party so I was hoping for ideas so I could have a shopping plan.
Thanks for your ideas though
Answer:
Are you in London? How about a trip to Chinatown to see if you can pick up any accessories? Or even something cheap and cheerful? I bought a fab pink Chinese skirt from a shop in Camden recently that cost me about £20 for a party and in fact I've worn it to death. I wore it with a black corset and held my hair up with chopsticks.
Another Hennes problem ...
NO.4. ask :
Another Hennes problem ...
I bought a cardi from Hennes on Friday but I've changed my mind. It's too big and I don't want it. I wanna exchange it for that pencil skirt with the bow and it's the same price BUT I've just checked the receipt and the SA didn't scan the cardi to begin with!!!
Hennes don't do exchanges without a receipt so what do I do?! They prob won't believe that I bought the cardi to begin with :o
Also I don't wanna bring it to their attention that th ecardi was never scanned or I'll have to pay for that!
Am I now gonna be stuck with a 'free' cardigan that's too big for me?
ETA: If there's no solution - what's the best way to shrink a cardi made of Acrylic, Nylon and Mohair?
Answer:
:)
assuming that you didn't pay for the cardi, couldn't you just buy the skirt and you'd be none the worse financially?
not too sure about the cardi, but I think if you washed it on a hot machine wash it may shrink the wool :)
Answer:
Ring up first and ask if you can bring it in to exchange, and you dont have your reciept anymore.

Yup and sell the cardie on ebay?
Answer:
Lomie, they don't exchange without a receipt. I lost a receipt for a top I wanted a smaller size in and they would only let me get the same top (which had long since sold out) and nothing else without having a receipt.
Thinking about it AGAIN, I do like the cardi but couldn't find it in the standard sizing range (even tho the SA said it WAS there - it wasn't!) so I had to get a Large from the BB range and it's too big and that's the smallest size they do.
Heidibee, I was gonna ask Mr C nicely last night if he'd buy me the skirt but before I had a chance, he started ranting about a bus lane fine he has to pay that came in the post yesterday morning and the mood he was in really wouldn't have improved no matter how much I tried to explain that the 'bow skirt' was a must!
I'll see if washing it works and if not will list it on Ebay Loony - can't see it fetching more than about £8
White leather bag?
NO.5. ask :
White leather bag?
How many of you have white leather bags? I'm on a bag roll at the mo buying a bag in every colour under the sun (missed out on a wicked teal one last nite on Ebay - was too busy baggin! )
Would teaming a white leather bag with white pointy flats be too much? Look too cheap?
If I get one then I won't be looking to bring it out of hibernation til Spring but just wanted your views on them?
Cheers girls :)
Answer:
I've got a white slouchy bag (like the primark metallic ones) from HM, which is made from something plasticy, but it's lovely and soft and squidgy :) i love it
Answer:
Oh I'm on a bag mission at the moment too! I've got a lovely white leather slouchy bag from Topshop, bought for £20 (reduced from £40) about 3 weeks ago, result! It's quite roomy aswell :)
As for teaming it with white flats...I dont think it wouldn look cheap if the rest of your outfit was classy and not 'matchy'. (It probably would if a 14 year old chav girl did it though!) White flipflops might look nice in the spring/ summer too.

What kind of jackets/footwear do you team yours with? I'd be wearing dark denim jeans I've got that much covered.
Answer:
I quite like this look and used to have a white slouchy one in buttery soft leather. Loved it. Used to wear it with dark denims or beigy stuff. I reckon white flats and a nice white leather bag would look pretty nice for summer.
