Any tips for when hacking up jeans into shorts?
I am yet to find the perfect pair of battered light denim shorts so have decided to take a pair of scissors to some jeans when I find the right pair.
Has anyone got any tips for me so I dont ruin them before I get to wear them?!
Thanks
xx
Answer:
The old DIY saying, measure twice, cut once :D You can always cut more off...
Answer:
I cut up an old pair into hotpants a few weeks ago SB, thankfully they are only to be worn under long smocks!!
I misjudged the line I'd marked out accidentally cut out a chunk on the underside (where the bum joins the leg close to the gusset- crap description :o ) now I'm a bit exposed it looks weird.
I was wearing them at the time of the cutting looking in a mirror at my arse- I don't advise doing that!
Chat's advise is spot on-
Answer:
I'd suggest washing first to get any shrinkage out of the way early on.
Look at other shorts you have - perhaps use a pair as a template? They shouldn't go straight across at the bottom - they are cut slightly higher at the sides than at the middle.
For the fraying, I usually find that pulling at the threads, then washing, pulling again at the threads, then washing again, then trimming the threads has the right effect.
And there's always sandpaper for a more battered look.
Answer:
Thanks chat - very wise, i might practise on an old pair first to experiment and make doubly sure!
Dolly, you were cutting them whilst wearing them  its a good job you didn't take a chunk out of yourself there
xx
ETA more great advice thanks, I hadn't thought of washing a couple of times. I may have to go with the sandpaper unless i can find some suitably battered.

Or has it been hidden in the Changing Room? Surely if we call it the 'What are you wearing this weekend' thread then it can stay here ;)

Tomorrow night is my friends birthday for which I will be wearing as discussed with the lovely baggers who helped me decide yest, black city shorts, black low low low cut top..and pink shoes and pink and silver bangles. we are going for a meal and then for cocktails. ::eek: can't wait!
Saturday I will be watching the FA Cup Final with my best boy mate and I'll be wearing dark jeans, t-bar shoes and a black t-shirt prob with some kind of jumper too about my person since the weather is so lovely not. THis outfit might seem a bit dressy for the footy but it will take me through to Saturday evening when there is a party to celebrate a friends end of exams.. :D
Sunday I will be visiting my Mum and watching my OH play cricket if the weather stays dry..outfit as yet undecided but prob something like boy fit jeans and pumps and a fitted tee or jumper of some sort..
Have a lovely weekend everyone :D

Ok then :D (Have cunningly changed the title ;) )
Tonight I will be running around cleaning the house, wrapping my sisters birthday presents and packing for the weekend, so will be scruffing round the house in the knitted dress, jeans and UGGs that I am wearing now.
Tomorrow I plan on finishing work as early as possible because I have a four hour drive down to my parents. We're having a belated birthday dinner for my sister/get well dinner for my Dad who's just had a knee op. I will probably be wearing straight legged jeans, black bandeau and black balloon sleeved cardigan with ballet pumps- boring, but comfy for travelling.
Saturday morning I have to leave the house at 7am :faint: to drive to Essex to go to my friend's wedding dress fitting, then we're heading into London to check into our hotel in time for a lovely lunch and possibly a sauna/whirpool.
Saturday night is her hen night and we're eating at Quaglino's then going on to the bar at Baglionis. I'll be wearing black cropped straight leg trousers, black dress with lace detailing, my new Chloe shoes :faint: and my nude Blenheim. I am so excited :yay:
Sunday will be spent hungover and treking back up the M6 so will be wearing something scruffy but comfy.
Have a fab and fashionable weekend ladies :D
Le weekend ?!
NO.3. ask :
Le weekend ?!
Is it really Thursday afternoon and no weekend thread yet !?
I'll start then.....
Tonight – Nothing. Hoping to get my cv tweaked and sent out to a few places, then shave/tan/face mask etc and an earlyish night.
Friday – working till 3.30pm then jumping on the train to Londres. Dropping my stuff off at hotboys, then heading down to Putney to meet my bestie and her bloke, then all heading to ShepBush Empire where we’re meeting some more friends, and all watching the Klaxons.
Think I’ll just wear my red skinny jeans, white printed tee, white vintage weave peeptoes, green and gold silk printed scarf, chocolate bomber.
Saturday – hotboy and I are trawling the shops of Camden to try and find me a dress for my friends wedding next weekend, and him a suit. Errm, I’ll probably just wear a purple smock dress with tights and boots, and a big cardi if it’s cold. Or a white smock dress with leggings and sandals if it's warmer.
We’re going out for dinner and drinks in the evening, no idea where yet – although you can bet we’ll probably just end up in the Hawley arms ! No idea what to wear, depends where we go really. Think I’ll take my high-waist skinnies, and h/w hotpants and a couple of tops to try. I have a white playsuit that’s yet to be worn too so that might have it’s first outing. Need to pack light though really so I better try and decide before I go.
Sunday – lie in and breakfast in bed with the papers. Bliss. Then maybe go and meet another friend for a late lunch, then head back up here late afternoon. Think I’ll just wear black denim hotpants, black tights, vintage boots or white pumps, denim shirt, or grey longline cardi worn buttoned up as minidress, black tights and white pumps with green/gold silk scarf.
So what's everyone else up to ?! And more imprtantly, what will you be wearing ??
xx

Hello!
NO.4. ask :
Hello!
Gosh, away for a month, and I come back to a whole new forum!
I don't like change - what's going on?
Anyway, back from zimbabwe, only a week late.
It's been life changing, from helping at the orphanage, to hunting with the lions and running alongside them as they try and take down waterbuck and heertebeest, to bottle feedign eko and etosha (4 weeks old), to falling in love (with a woman as it turned out - most unexpected). Am already trying to figure out if I can go out there more permanently.
I don't even care about KM at TS!!!!
What's been going on here? Congrats are due I have seen, to Tiny!
Here's a pic of me with Ltalo and Landela. Beautiful boys.
Answer:
Welcome back Lizzie :D
Your trip sounds :faint: and  do we get more details and photos?
Answer:
Thanks Shiny!!!!
Well, I have managed to run down the battery on my camera, very annoyingly, but more pics to follow.
It's hard to know what to say. It was honestly breathtaking, all of it. Walking the lions at sunrise and sunset in the african bush, with acres of sky above you and the wind blowing the long grass is just a perfect experience. It wasn't all gambolling with cute cubs though, the orphanage was hard, as a lot of the kids were hiv+ and came from pretty horrific backgrounds, and watching a lions tear out the intestines of a wildebeest while it is still alive is not for the squeamish. It's all part of the experience though. Have to say, that the worst thing you can possibly do on a hangover, is clear up rotten warthog intestine and 4 year old lion diarrhea (sp?)
Am shellshocked back in london today!!
Answer:
Welcome back Lizzie - sounds like you had a mindblowing time!
Answer:
You must feel so strange being back in London now, it sounds like an absolutely life-changing experience!
Has anyone been to Amsterdam?
NO.5. ask :
Has anyone been to Amsterdam?
Mr A and I need a break and we were thinking about Amsterdam. Has anyone been and if so, what did you think of it? If you know of a good (cheap!) hotel too that would be great :)
Thanks, Arish.
Answer:
It's a fantastic place to go - the people are lovely, the food is to die for and its just so much fun. Not to mention the fact that it is truly a beautiful city, something that unfortunately often gets overlooked.
I think I stayed in a hotel called the tulip inn, gonna have a quick look now.
Not sure its the exact one now that I see it but it looks good. :)
Have fun
Answer:
Thanks :)
Answer:
I've been twice years ago, can't remember where I stayed, I was totally stoned. I caused a scene in the Sex Museum because I kept pointing things out to my friend rather loudly. :o  :hippy:
I'd love to go again but this time I'm more interested in the cheese.
I'll try rack my brains for the name of the hotel. I can see it clearly in my mind :o
I've remembered the name,it was clean did fabby breakfasts but it doesn't look much cop on the website. Must've looked better through rose tinted specs :disguise:
Answer:
  Thank you. I will check out that hotel.
Mr A will love it if there's loads of cheese. He's a cheese addict.
