Big girls
Havent seen a thread for plus size girls (I'm one) , so just wondering what you're all buying and where you're getting it from? :)
Answer:
Hiya Points
I am a "big" girl in that I am currently wearing a size 18 top and a size 16 bottom (on a good day!) My favourite high street stores are Monsoon, Dorothy Perkins, MS limited collection, Next for tops (their trousers and jeans are baggy in the wrong places and make me look like a man!), Asda:o , New Look for shoes, and occasionally HM.
My pet hates at the mo is Evans (why so frumpy?) and shops that pretend to stock a size 16, which in fact is closer to a size 12 elsewhere.
I have just bought some clothes from an American website called alight.com as they ship to the Uk, do bigger sizes and use plus size models for the clothes. My order hasn't arrived yet so I can't comment on the fit and quality, but they have a lot of reductions so I thought I would give them a go. Another American site is torrid.com but their stuff is a bit young for me.
BTW the doll below is how I would like to look - ie minus about 3 stone!
Answer:
Hiya Rosemary, well I'm a fair bit bigger than you. I think its great that Monsoon does larger sizes now but apart from that there isnt much choice on the High Street. I'm going to the States later in the year so will hit the Florida shops big time.
Youre right about Evans, they do have the odd thing but mostly its pure shite and us biggies are stuck with it!
Answer:
My mum gets things in TK Maxx, not only are they better quality than evans and a better price but you won't look like every other plus sized person where you live
Answer:
My mum is a 20-22 and shops at New Look, Evans, Debenhams, Anne Klein (i think) which used to be in Etams but now BHS i believe and dorothy perkins :)
what tights with shorts?
NO.2. ask :
what tights with shorts?
what type of tights do you wear with shorts? just plain black opaque, fishnets, or what? i dont usually wear any, cos i wear quite long shorts, but i have just bought some new shorts which are a bit, well, short:o and need to wear tights so that i dont feel too vunerable.:o which type should i choose?
Answer:
I wear opaque or the plain style ones. I've saw different girls wear different kinds whilst out and about and think any of them look fine tbh.
Answer:
Black opaques or coloured/patterned ones if you are the kind of girl who can carry it off!
Answer:
For a normal casual look I'd wear black opaques or grey ones (Primark - £1.50 if anyone needs any).
I've also got blue ones with gold floral pattern and bright pink paisley ones that I have worn once or twice, but more for quirky outfits that I just about pull off :D
I think small fishnets and herringbone patterns can look nice for a night out look, but definitely not the big fishnets - a little too street corner for my liking.
xx
Answer:
thats what i was thinking of wearing - small fishnets, you mean small holes, right? thats what i have worn before.

OT - baggage allowance?
NO.3. ask :
OT - baggage allowance?
Hi all!
As some of you may know, throughout February I have the horrendous task of moving house by plane. 4 round trips (including the one my OH made with a giant suitcase this afternoon) of shifting all but only the necessary things in my life. Phew!
Just a quick question about baggage allowance - has anyone ever gone over their limit? If so, by how much and are they pretty forgiving if it's just over by a couple of kilos? I am flying with easyJet and bmibaby and plan on trying to ship as much as possible! Am beginning now to regret those New Year spending sprees in so many different ways...
Answer:
Re: OT - baggage allowance?
My limit at Christmas was 20kg and I was over it on the way to the UK and again on the way back (too much Aveda  ). On the way out they didn't bother, but I got stung leaving the UK. I think it varies according to the airline, but it's about 4GBP a kilo.
I think easyjet give you 25kg though.
ETA: I was 4 kilos over on the way back. You can put up to 10 in your hand luggage too. Maybe they are stricter after Christmas because everybody's put on a few pounds.
Answer:
it depends on the airline, how busy the flight is, how much you paid for your ticket, if you have one of their higher tier frequent flier cards and i don't know what else. usually on the big airlines if you're over by less than 10kg you get away with it, but easyjet and bmibaby i'm not so sure. once i got away with having 42kg rather than 20 on swissair but i think that was a one-off. whenever i have been charged they've charged me half of what they should've done though. put whatever you can in your handluggage (did easyjet ever make it handluggage only?) and pretend it weighs nothing, you can save 10 or so kg on that if you have the muscles!
Answer:
Ooh, annanas, that sounds like a good idea about cramming your hand luggage full! I paid pittance for my flights - I always book them early. I will hope and smile sweetly! I can understand if they're busy they won't want the hassle. I can't see myself being too much over the limit either but I do think £5 per kilo is extortionate!
It's a very unpopular route/time as well so I doubt the plane will be too weighed down!
Answer:
you might get away with it up to a point, but no uk airlines (and I think maybe that applies to all airlines now) will accept any piece of luggage that weighs over 32kg (or it might be 30kg)
I do a lot of long haul, long term travel with my job and have additional baggage allowance of up to 50kg, but must be across 2 pieces of luggage
Short Shorts Advice - sorry
NO.4. ask :
Short Shorts Advice - sorry
Now I have a query on short shorts. Saw quite a few nice ones in Warehouse and Oasis. I was wondering if it will be suitable for me to wear - I really don't want to be a case of mutton dressed as lamb sort of senario. I'm mid-late 30s, size 10/12 , 5" 2.5 - depending on the cut of the clothes and which shop. What do you think?:o
Answer:
It's very hard to say without seeing you! Is it normally your style or would it be a departure for you?
Answer:
I'm 31, size 10 and 5ft4, so not too different from you. I recently bought a pair of short shorts, which look fine on me with black opaque tights, ballet shoes long or 3/4 sleeved top - I look quite demure as everything else is covered up.
I wouldn't wear them without the tights though so I will probably only be wearing them in the colder weather, which seems a bit strange. I also like wearing them with flat shoes as I quite like feeling small again it looks anything but tarty.

Used to wear them, but now only then to wear them when I'm in M'sia with flat sandals. Thought of buying a pair to wear them with tights and boots (flat), not ballet pumps, makes my feet looks even smaller(like bound feet). So, shall I chance it? What about when the weather gets warmer?
Answer:
When the weather gets warmer just do the same as me:
buy a pair of white or coral short shorts instead! ;)
I plan on buying them for summer as they will look great with a puff sleeve blouse and ballet pumps (and I am also over 30 but live in a hot country so it will be a great excuse to cool down! ;))
If you like them, wear them and I agree with you! Id also wear them with opaques to avoid that tarty look! :)
Shrinking skinnies that have gone baggy
NO.5. ask :
Shrinking skinnies that have gone baggy
Is there any way to do this? Could you tumble dry them or sit in the bath like Nick Kamen
Jazzie
Answer:
Mine just return to their normal size once they're washed!
Answer:
I wash and tumble dry mine and they return to tightness :D
