O/T- One night in Oxford, any recs?
Me and OH are considering going to stay in Oxford for a night on the coming friday night and wondered if anyone had any recs of things to do, places to drink eat or stay, at the moment we are contemplating the malmaison but still undecided.
Answer:
Hello from Oxford!
Have you been before Ellieaness? Are you only staying for a or going to spend a day here too?
Because if you haven't I'd recommend being a bit touristy and going to see some of the colleges - impossible to do more than 3 or 4 but some of them are really lovely. Christchurch is the very popular one, partly because of Harry Potter but Trinity, Magdalen and Worcester are also very beautiful (and of course my own college Wadham! if you're a garden-type person, Wadham apparently has some of the best grounds in Oxford :actually: )
Mooching about the Covered Market on the High Street is quite nice, some interesting shops.
There is a tour of the Sheldonian building which I haven't done but you can go right to the top and see amazing views of the dreaming spires from there (my library is opposite and as high up, I can vouch for the view being spectacular!)
Eating and drinking wise I like the Jericho/Little Clarendon street area just north of the city centre - there's some lovely restaurants and Raoul's and Baby are great little bars. Branca and Le Petit Blanc are nice in Jericho. The complex behind Malmaison has restaurants like Carluccio's, Tootsies, Bar Haha's, Pizza Express, The Living Room and Prezzo, a bit chain-y but useful and not as busy as the rest of the centre. Chiang Mai on the High Street is an excellent Thai restaurant.
It's a lovely place, I just showed OH's family around yesterday and we had a meal at Carluccio''s and they loved the day.
Feel free to PM me if you like hun!

Must just butt in here and advise you to check out the Radcliffe Camera just off the High St. It's pretty much the symbol of Oxford, and even better, it's right next to Brasenose, my old college! What more could you want?!
Trinity's very beautiful, Christchurch's very impressive, Worcester's park is lovely, Magdalen even has deer for crying out loud! Love the Wadham bar, Naz... the best one in summer!
I'd second the Covered Market recommendation: it has a lovely cafe called Georgina's which does wicked breakfasts (and lunches...), a great chocolate shop called Chocology and Next to Nothing has some lovely clothes and other bits. If you're there for lunch, Alpha (organic, fair trade etc) does brilliant salads.
Jericho's great, as Nazneen says. I esp love Branca and Raoul's does the best cocktails, so for an evening out that area may be best. Chiang Mai's my fave Oxford restaurant though as I adore Thai. If you're just looking for brilliant food, the Old Parsonage and Gee's are your best bet, but they're not very close to other bars etc. In fact, the Old Parsonage is a lovely little hotel at the top of St Giles: I can vouch for the rooms and the lovely breakfast in the morning!

I second the Radcliffe Camera!
I really like Oxford, have been eating at Brown's with my family since I was tiny and I love it. At one point my ambition was to be a waitress there:o Clearly I set my sights high... Anyway, it's near Little Clarendon Street for funky bars and not far from The Lamb and Child (Oxford peeps help me, I'm not sure if that is the right name) put where CS Lewis used to drink. Nice ale.

Shameless appeal for Primark dress!
I love the polka dot dress from Primark so much; went up to the Kilburn Primark branch today to track it down, but apparently they never had it in! If anyone sees it on their shopping travels and spots a size 10 could they please pick one up for me?! I can easily PayPal money for the dress and plenty of postage/effort fees! I will be eternally grateful!
Ooh and in case you're interested, I picked up as consolation:
- short-sleeved buttermilk lace shrug
- floral voluminous chiffony vest
- black slip to go under sheer dresses
xx
Answer:
haven't seen it yet in Kingston but will keep an eye out and grab one if it arrives!
Answer:
Will have a look for you either today or tomorrow!
Answer:
Thanks so much, you two! You're very lucky to have such good branches!
Answer:
Is this the one you mean? Just got this in my local branch (returning trousers for my other half :o ), I'm normally an 8 but this is a 10 and it fits perfectly!
Hello!
NO.4. ask :
Hello!
I've been lurking here since forever (and picking up some fabulous tips!), but I never post. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I was shopping and came home with an excellent loot, and I really wanted to tell everyone here, even though I don't know anybody - is that a bit weird?!
Anyway, I thought I'd de-lurk and join in if that's ok? When I got home from my shopping expedition, you see, my housemates didn't really care about me getting a Cacharel dress reduced from £275 to £100, etc!
Anyway, hello everyone!
Answer:
:rawk: welcome!
I love your name... i am now thinking of fairycakes and cursing berluddy sunday trading hours... i could certainly eat a few of those right now! might have to make a wee trip to the nearest cornershop.

Hello and welcome! I am exactly the same as this, so you are definitely not weird ;)
The first thing I think about when I buy something is taking a piccie and putting it on the Bag. Oh, and how to hide it from Mr Shiny of course!
I hope you'll be joining the rest of us posters more now :)
Answer:
Welcome to fashion:wave:
Would love to see piccies of the dress! :)
Don't worry we all understand the importance of a new purchase and a bargain :D

Not forgetting of course those not-a-bargain-at-all but must-have purchases ;)
Ruined underwear emergency, help me girls!
NO.5. ask :
Ruined underwear emergency, help me girls!
Hi,
Mr A managed to dye about 8 pairs of pants GREY by putting them in the wash with his JEANS last night, thus ruining 5 of my pretty underwear sets. :boohoo: :boohoo:
I know it's not the end of the world, and am sure I will get over it (happily the Love Kylies were saved) but does anyone have any handy hints/wonder products which could save the day?
A v grateful Arietty
Answer:
Maybe try this?
Answer:
I've done that before with some new bras and knickers (I must have ruined about £80 worth of underwear then :boohoo: ). Ended up chucking them, I'm afraid.
Answer:
Brilliant thanks Clarice, my parents are coming over in a couple of weeks so I'll get them to bring some over if I don't find any here.
Cheers :)
Answer:
I know how you feel Loony!
I know in the grand scheme of things in relation to world poverty etc etc it really isn't a big deal, but I do love my pretty knickers.
