the boots shown on the first image - brown leather lace ups - I got them yesterday reduced to £40 thinking they'd be great with my skinnies - however I went to wear them and OH stated that I looked like I'd mugged van helsing and stole her boots. he thought they were super yuk. I kinds like them. whats the general fashion cencencus - should I just return them?:(

I love lace up boots, esp with long skirts. I think the are an acquired taste though. If you like them feel confident enough to wear em - keep em!!!

I'm not sure what you're really after, and I'm a little hesitant to give shoe advice to one of the here shoe queens anyway, but how about the purple patentones here, middle row, far right? They look quite dull in the pic but in real life they're very nice and definitely a little bit unusual. Although I haven't as yet worked out what to wear them with exactly, but that's a minor point!
Miss Selfridge and Topshop should have something too - there are some gorgeous scarlet round-toed heels in Miss S atm.
Schuh also have some very nice Mary Jane style heeled mid-heeled shoes in green, black, brown and cornflower blue (see FP's thread on Shoe Quests), but they're cute/quirky rather than sexy.
New Look have some well cute pointy leopard print kitten heeled shoes atm too, which are my new favourite work shoes! There's a pic somewhere on a thread about New Look Ballet pumps if I can find it...
