English weddings -- I need a reminder!

NO.1. Ask :
English weddings -- I need a reminder!
It has been an eternity since I last attended a wedding in England -- one in a fancy locale, anyway. Wedding wear, to me, now means black tie (long gown, usually black) which would, I think, look a bit silly at a late afternoon English wedding. And to make matters worse, I can't for the life of me get past images of skirt suits and wide-brimmed hats, a la mother of the bride.
So, I need some serious help; nothing too avante garde (though I do like funky shoes). No particular budget in mind, as yet -- I'm just looking for ideas right now.
I am olive-skinned (so yellow and most greens, aside from jewel ones, make me look like a ghoul), 5'7, size 8 and have dark hair.
Thanks!
Answer:
When's the wedding?
Also where do you live now? not that it's got anything to do with it, I'm just nosey!
Answer:
Coast is normally good for pretty but not-hideous-pastel-nightmare wedding clothes.
Something like this for example:
A wedding is a great excuse to wear a fascinator as well, I think they look so elegant.
Have a great time :)

    NO.2. ask :
    Big brown leather satchel/bag?
I am posting so much today! Can you tell I'm putting off doing a uni essay?
Anyway, I am desperate for a big mid-to-dark brown leather bag, big enough to carry all my junk including A4 folders, and I can't find one anywhere! The fact that I'm on a budget doesnt help :( I would spend up to £60 if it was a lovely one, but would prefer a bit cheaper, obviously!
I don't really mind on the style, or whether its new or vintage, but would like it quite slouchy and plain, to go with more things. This one is perfect, but since the bidding is already up to £42 with 2 hours left, I don't think I have much chance! And Ebay bidding wars stress me out!
So girls, am I dreaming, or is my perfect bag out there somewhere within my budget? Any recc's appreciated! Thankyou :D
    Answer:
The only place I can think of to try would be TK Maxx. The Ebay one still seems to be at £42 so maybe try to snipe it?
www.justsnipe.com for 5 free snipes per week if you don't already have a sniper.
    Good luck x
    Answer:
oh, I love that bag GJ! If you fins anything similar pretty please can you let me know ;)
thanks! and good luck with the hunt!
    Answer:
i bought my mum a very similiar bag to the one you just described from the French Connection on Oxford Street, opposite Bond Street tube station. it's made of a soft, buttery mid-to-dark brown leather, is quite squashy without being overly 'hobo style' slouchy, has enough room for an A4 folder and the rest of your accoutrements with separate compartments on the inside, including a zipped one. it's a tote bag rather than a shoulder bag, has some zip and pocket detail on the outside but is otherwise quite plain. it cost £45 and was VERY hard to part with on her birthday!
    Answer:
R_etro - thanks :) I am very tempted to try sniping it (I LOVE sniping ;) ) but am a bit reluctant to pay that much money on Ebay for something I haven't seen in case its not as nice IRL! Also, now I've been daft enough to post it on here, loads of lurkers will probably beat me to it :( Ah well!
Ohara - yep will definitely let you know if I track anything down :) Its so annoying when you have something specific in mind, it never seems to be in the shops! My friend has a lovely one, but of course it was a second-hand find she picked up in a vintage shop, typical!
Hyperballad - the FC bag sounds absolutely perfect, please tell me you bought it recently and that its still in-store?!
ETA - Nothing similar on the FC website *cries*

What's Primark like at the mo?
    Hi,
I live a fair bit from a Primark- the nearest ones are Birkenhead or Manchester :(
So before making a guess journey to either destination, I would just like to know whats going on there at the mo?
Is there much in? What about those shops in particular?
    Thank you,
    Laura
    Answer:
I went in a couple of weeks ago and was thoroughly unimpressed with anything. I normally fill a basket but instead walked out empty handed. And it wasn't even busy!
    Answer:
i am new to the fashion boards, never been to primark havent got one anywhere near, heard so much about it in mags and on the boards is it really all that good?:)
    Answer:
    Hiya,
I went in today. They had billions and billions of city shorts in various fabrics and lengths, still lots of stripes in, skinny jeans and lacey tops.
There wasnt really much in there that inspired me this week- which was good and bad!:p
    Answer:
    Hiya Laura:wave:
Didnt see ur post there sorry. Its very much hit and miss, there is alot of junk in there! But its great for basic jumpers and tops etc U can often find a gem in there tho:) things also tend to sell out quick so if u see something u like u cant really think about it u just has to buy.

    I Hate Faith!!!
My sparkly gold shoes arrived (finally) today and they don't fit!!! They are the most gorgeous shoes I've seen so far this year and the size 8 is too ****ing small!!!!!!!!!
I swear Faith are making their size 8's too small!!!!!!!
Look ..I'm gonna cry!!! I'm in denial and will have to try again tomorrow to squeeze my fat feet in!!!!
Aren't they gorgeous?? :( :( :( I'm so gonna cry if I can't get my feet in tomorrow!!!!!!!!!:fingers: :boohoo: :boohoo:
    Answer:
Bugger, can you not get an 8.5 half at all (can't remember if they do half sizes)?
    Answer:
    What gits! Nice shoes though.
    Answer:
Nope Loony - they don't do half sizes and they don't do a 9 either!! :(
I'm in denial cos I just got in a lil' while ago and I've convinced myself my feet are swollen so I'll try again tomorrow when I get in from work and have chilled out for a bit!!
They're SO pretty IRL - you have to see them!! The pic on the site doesn't do them justice at all!
    Answer:
Is it worth getting them stretched at a bootmakers or going to a size 9 if they do them and shoving a half insole in them?

    NO.5. ask :
How to accessorise a black shift dress..
    Hi
Have got a black shift dress from ebay for a 'posh' do im going to, i chose a shift dress becasue im not very confident about my figure atm, and i read that they will be 'in' this spring/summer.
My problem is i really dont want to look too early nineties!! With little court shoes etc
I wondered if you could give me your ideas.. what kind of shoe.. what bag ( perhaps this could be the focal point of my look) and what jewellery. I am all too aware that this outfit/look could so easily not translate!.. and everyone will just think im a fat frump :(
Also, what kind of cover up, i like cardigans bt never seem to get them too look right. ps the party is not until july!
    Answer:
    Hello there
Do you have the March issue of Vogue? They have a feature on styling shift dresses which could inspire you...
I suppose the easiest suggestion for a cover-up would be a pashmina; try www.mypashmina.co.uk for a pretty sizeable variety of colours.

    Answer:
I don't know if this is you but how about some acid bright accessories a la Cameron Diaz, some funky bright shoes and a big bold matching bracelet.
    Claire x
    Answer:
I'd go with a a sort of updated Audrey Hepburn look with bright shoes and here as claire suggested. Something like a pair of gorgeous fuschia pink Mary Janes or pointy toed shoes with a beautiful statement here (maybe silver or turquoise), maybe with pearl beads and an upswept hairstyle could look fab.
That reminds me, I have a shift dress from years ago lurking deep down in my wardrobe, I must fish it out again.

    Yeps!
I am usually in the “No black and bright colour“club but I agree with G_Kitten that turquoise can look good with black especially when in accessories ;)
And bronze accessories look great with black too!!! ;)
