    80's night...
Hiya long time lurker needing advice!
I've just remember i'm going to an 80s night tomorrow and have no idea what to wear  *just a little too young for that era!* would one of you fashionist be able to give me some ideas please?
    Thanks in advance, LA x
    Answer:
Is it definitely 80s dress? I go to 80s night all the time but just wear normal clubbing stuff...
Otherwise, you could wear skinnies and a loose slouchy top and some beads? You don't want to go down the bananarama way...
:p Sorry, not a lot of help, hopefully a wiser bagger can add more!
    Answer:
I watched My Cousin Vinny last night (ok admittedly it came out in 91) and Marissa Tomei was wearing this great dress which was Electric Blue with see through electric blue sleeves and massive shoulder pads. Kind of like what Christina Applegate ends up wearing in The Sweetest Thing (my favourite girly film :o )
Anyway, basically anything bright, shoulder pads, ra-ra skirts etc. I'd love to go to an 80's party.
    Answer:
Lots of stuff in the shops now is 80s inspired so it should be quite easy. Puff-ball skirts for example although the ones out now a bit more subtle than in the 80s I think. Anything in fuschia pink, electric blue or jade green. Lots of bangles.
    Answer:
Yep, puffball skirts, footless tights, chunky bangles. You can actually look quite trendy at this party in an eighties kind of way :)

    Being fashionable at work
    Evening girls:)
I've lurked through the fashion pages for a very long time and picked up many ideas on trends and looks that i would love to try....HOWEVER....i sometimes feel that if i were to wear city shorts (which i love the look of!)/waistcoats etc etc, to work that i would be ridiculed for being too 'out there' with my fashion sense.
I work in a young office with a pretty even male:female split, however the girls are pretty safe and ordinary in what they wear, and if i come in wearing so much as red shoes (let alone polka dots!) then it gets raised eyebrows and comments!
I know i should just igore their comments and wear what i want as i KNOW thats its fashionable, and while i feel confident wearing all my trendy stuff in town, im not as confident when i'm getting ready for work and end up grabbing another pair of black trousers in the morning!! :o
So do you all work in ultra-trendy offices where everyone knows that what you're wearing is great? or does anyone else endure the same comments?!!

    Answer:
    Re: Being fashionable at work
I kind of know where you are coming from - I would love to be fashionable at wok - but I'm a sales rep, and there is a pretty tight dress code I have to follow. not in the rules as such - but for the sake of doing my job and appearing acceptable to all of my working areas and customers. I am pretty much stuck with basic knee length skirt + suit jacket or trouser suit combos. tried once wearing 3/4 trousers but got major stick for it. I try to make my concessions to fashion by wearing the "in" colour in a necklace or v-neck stretch top rather than a blouse and if I can get away with it I'll wear heels (I'm supposed to wear safety shoes) but they have to be fairly sensible otherwise I wouldnt be able to drive/walk all day in them.
I say make the odd nod to trends where you can rather than full-on catwalk at work.

    I'm a sales rep too Juggler :)
That is very good advice, it's important for you to feel comfortable and find a balance between dressing in a way that you feel is 'you' whilst not feeling uncomfortable for being too different.
Do you have dress down Fridays?

Do you have dress down Fridays?

no - suit at all times:boohoo: - but there's always a way of cheering up black trousers and a jacket witout scaring off the customers.
sorry to hi-jack but how do you cope with the dress code issue shiny?
    Answer:
I'm lucky in that I tend to be at home 2-3 days a week and in the office quite rarely (and I try to make it Fridays so I can dress down).
My clients are pretty conservative though, so when I have meetings I tend to go for black trousersuit, kitten heels and coloured tops. My boobage makes shirts a problem so I tend to go for wrap tops or v-neck jersey type things.
I get very jealous reading the Spot Check thread on work days, but I've resigned myself to Conservative MP styling most week days :p
Why do you have to wear safety shoes Juggler, what do you sell? (Sorry for hijacking, being OT and being nosy :o )

    Formal (but nice) work shirts
    Hi all,
I normally wear casual clothes to work but every now and again I have to dress a bit more formally. I really struggle with this because my normal day-to-day wear is jeans and a nice top.
Does anyone know of any nice formal shirts to wear with smart trousers? I've seen other people wearing nice fitted ones with fold back cuffs and invisible buttons, but never seen them in any shops I go in. Course, they look expensive so that might explain it.
I did try Pinks (admittedly only the small one at heathrow) and they were close...but (IMHO - sorry if anyone disagrees) looked a little naff. If I was going to pay that much I'd want perfection.
Does anyone have any suggestions of shops/sites to try?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Debs!

    How about these?:

    http://www.asos.com/Jeniffer-Ellison...69446cid=1895
Next and DP often do some really nice shirts why not try there?
    Answer:
That was quick!!! Thanks very much, I really like the 'Jeniffer Ellison' one.
I haven't tried DP but Next shirts never fit me very well and always gape around the boobs (although maybe this is my shape and nothing to do with Next). I was hoping if I paid a bit more I might get something that fit (and lasted) a bit better.
    Answer:
I have the same problem with the gaping around the boobs but have been converted by Bravissimo shirts. They come in three levels of 'curviness' so fit really well. :)
    Answer:
    Try
    TM Lewin
    or
    Pinks
They are both good for shirts and Lewins always has offers on.

How long do you think patent leather will be 'in'?
Just wondering really- do you think it'll be like ponchos and be something to be confined to the back of the wardrobe by next month, or around to stay for a while?
Personally Im hoping it'll go out so I can wear my shoes anyway and look different! I hated this trend at first but Im really coming round to it- wipe clean shoes!!
    H x
    Answer:
If you like them what does it matter if they're in or out? I personally think patent shoes are gorgeous. Got a really sexy pair of red peep toes from Office Vintage- if they're well made make you feel good I think they can be a staple shoe in your wardrobe.
    Enjoy them.
    :) :)
    Answer:
I don't know that it'll stay in for a huge amount of time- maybe through til the autumn? Hard to say. It took me a while to get into this trend too because they always reminded me of the Start-Rite school shoes I had when I was a kid!
    Answer:
I dont particulalrly care whether its in or out to be quite honest, I was just wondering, soemtimes its really obvious that a trend is just going to bomb!
    H x
    Answer:
Difficult to say but I'm not a fan of patent anything.
