First time to NYC, need some tips!
So exciting, my lovely boyfriend is taking me to NYC next Sat for 4 days, woohoo!
I am allowed one day shopping and one day sightseeing; I've been checking the forums for previous similar threads but can only find a couple, so...can you help me with the ESSENTIAL shops and sights I should try and see? So far I have the following;
shops - Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Banana Republic
sights - Empire State Building, Guggenheim Museum, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Ground Zero
We're staying on Lexington Avenue midtown, if that helps!
Also, any tips for top restaurants would be most appreciated. It's his birthday on the Sunday and I want to take him somewhere really fab for cocktails then dinner!

Shopping - Century 21, Loehmann's Daffy's for cut-price designer and quality high street labels.
Old Navy for cheap basics.
Sightseeing - take the free Staten Island ferry which goes past the Statue of Liberty. For great views of the city go to the top of the Rockerfeller centre rather than the Empire State. You get a great view of the Empire State from the top of the Rockerfeller, as well as Central Park. Also, the Rockerfeller centre has better facilities and is nicer than the Empire State.
Does sightseeing include museums? If so, the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art is a must.

Make sure you take your passport to the visitors centre in Macys and Bloomingdales to get a discount.
As far as restaurants are concerned - there are so many! I would speak to the concierge at your hotel and get them to recommend and book you somewhere. Also don't be afraid to ask people.. we found SA so helpful and more than happy to recommend bars and restaurants.
Also try a search in Travel - there was a really good New York thread in there.

if you go to empire state building, aim to get there for 9.30, thats what we did and we literally did not queue at all, yet when we came down about an hour later the queues were down all the stairs and around 3 blocks!

I think it *can* go with black in the form of black outfit + tan accessories.
Serendipity posted a link to a street style link with pics from the Oxford Street HM Stella madness - there was a girl wearing a black outfit with tan accessories and IMHO, she looked quite stylish.
As a 'no to brown' person, it had me converted.

Have these just disappeared? My local TS (Liverpool) didn't have any in when I was there on Wednesday and they aren't on the website anymore. I need these jeans as my old ones have died and I lived in them! :(

Mine died in about 7 months, of almost constant wearing. I'd love another pair but I can't find any either... I think they had some in our tiny Durham branch the other day but it was only about 3 pairs and they were in the unpopular sizes. I think I'm gonna have to try Ebay :(

Don't worry, TS are bringing out new versions of the Mooch jeans. The Glasgow Argyle St branch had loads of both new and old styles when I was in yesterday. They're basically the same except the colour/fading of the denim is slightly different (nicer, IMO), the stitching is a different colour and the back pockets are smaller. They're on the website.

Liverpool still had some of the old light wash ones in last time I went, but more of the dark ones, had loads of the new ones though. I have 2 pairs of old light ones, and one of the new dark ones.
The new ones are ok, not as good as the old ones, but they were my most favourite jeans ever. They come slightly higher, and I find they are slightly more fitted around the bum and yeah, a bit more flared. The light ones are not as light as the old light ones, they are a lot more blue. Still comfy though and soft, pockets look a bit different and the stitching is yellow.
I like them but not as much as I :throb: my others.

1 Attachment(s) It's a workmate's birthday on Wednesday and I've been lumbered with the job of getting her a present. She told me a couple of weeks ago she'd like a new bag for work for her birthday, but of course I've left it till the last minute. Went into town yesterday but it was a NIGHTMARE with a pushchair so I had to give it up as a bad job. I think my best option at the moment is to order something from Next, and was just looking at these ones in the picture below.
I've got about £25 to spend, I think it needs to be black as she never wears brown, usually black or grey for work, and not too big as the one she's got now is big and she said not as big as that! Phew.
Obviously this one isn't £25 but I could find something else to spend the rest of the money on for her!
