Co-ordinating accessories - how much is too much?
I'd be interested in your opinions on 'matchy' dressing, in general or for occasions, such as matching shoes here.
I'm going to a wedding soon, and got some great ideas for accessorising my dress from posting a thread on here - I'm fairly sure I'm going to wear either metallic-y green or silver ballet flats with my dress (can't really do heels due to bad back, certainly not for a whole day and night), and have fallen in love with a simple clutch bag which is nearly exactly the same colour as the green shoes.
Will it make me look like an old lady? Is it a safer bet to match the silver shoes with the green bag (which will look nice against the red white dress), or will that just look a bit, I don't know, mismatched? I just don't know :cmdunno:
Answer:
Hi,
In general I don't like to be matchy matchy at all, I like to wear colours such as black, grey, white, blue...quite subdued and then add bright accessories, e.g. a purple bag, silver shoes. However I think for a wedding its absolutely fine and can smarten up an outfit so I wouldn't worry at all about it.
Answer:
I don't really stick to a hard and fast rule with this; it depends too much on the outfit in question.
For example: if I'm wearing mostly black with a colour, then I'll probably stick to that colour (and possibly one other at most; probably a here). A case in point would have been last Friday, when I wore a black dress with a burgundy belt and boots - introducing another colour would have diluted the impact.
If you're mixing strong colours then I'm more inclined to match at least one thing, otherwise it can look too random and a bit too cluttered, especially if there are strong patterns too. I quite like the sound of a red and white dress with green shoes and here and don't think that would look too matchy. I think it might be a bit harder to get the silver worked in too, but if you wanted to wear silver shoes, I would be inclined to try and tie that in somewhere else in your outfit - maybe jewellery - and have a small accent of green somewhere too (even just a green something in your hair or a green bangle).

Answer:
i may go against the fgrain but i always match i recntly went to a wedding and wore a cream dress from coast with brown apliqued bows of it and wore brown wrap, brown here and brown shoes with crwam and white bows on the front i was told by a lot of guests thatt hey liked my outfits so go for it but post some pics if you can xxxxxxxxx
Answer:
I think I usually match bag with shoes. Or maybe just mtch my shoes to a colour that is present inthe outfit. For instance; friday i wore blk shorts, blk bag, blk top that has pink dots on it so wore bright pink shoes that matched the pink in the top.

'Combat' trousers

'Combat' trousers
Ah, finally found a pair in River Island that are the right length for my slightly-on-the-short-side-legs - can't post a flash pic (never remember how!), but they're similar to those on the RI website - they're like a very dark chocolate, almost black, and they're not loaded with pockets - would chunk me up far too much!
Plan to wear them, amongst other things, when I'm flying off on my hols - (long haul), so got to be comfy - can't do jeans on aeroplanes! I still want to look and feel good and, of course, comfortable.
Now then, got the shoes sorted (if they fit when they arrive, that is) - here:
And possibly the bag - big enough to fit all my daughter's and my bits and pieces in - also on River Island - tan barrel bag £39.99, currently out of stock, wouldn't you know it!! But what to wear on top - don't want to look 'frumpy' :cmdunno:
Oh ta!
Answer:
Can't really help you but I too have been wondering how to make my combats more current. How about a puff sleeved t-shirt?
Answer:
I freeze on planes so I would go for a sweater dress or something warm that will at least keep out some of the drafts. The shoes look great although i always end up over packing my bags and having to wear my boots when I fly :)

Answer:
Yeah, thanks - I'm just looking at the Yoke Seam Banded Top, also on the RI website, £16.99 - that's pretty nice.
Just wanted to steer away from the standard white t-shirt really!

Hmm, yes, I have the same problem with my boots normally, and end up taking them off on the plane anyway - but I won't be needing them on this holiday! :D
Your 'pull together' missing item.

Your 'pull together' missing item.
Just wondering is everyone else the same as myself in that when you get to each new season you begin to obsess about that one item that is missing from your wardrobe that will magically 'pull together' all your clothes into outfits ?
At the moment, mine is a pair of either silver or tan wedges/semi wedges, but they can't be too high as I want them to be everyday wear's. They are proving to be THE most difficult thing to find ever, probably because I know in my head exactly what I want (think the Topshop silver superhigh raffia platform wedges only about 2 inches lower :o ), and if I find them, I know that my entire Spring/Summer wardrobe will pull together into great outfits rather than just nice pieces separately.
What is your must have outfit maker for spring/summer?:)
Answer:
Good thread Tiny.
It's shoes for me too. The shoes I have at the moment just don't seem to be working with my outfits, so I think I need a nice pair of lowish wedges, either in black or grey. The closest I have found to what I am looking for is the New Look suede ones, but I am still undecided. I need a new pair of black comfortable ballet pumps also.
Answer:
Tiny, I'm almost certain I saw some silvery low wedges in NL a few weeks ago. I know what you mean about having an idea in your head not quite finding what you want in the shops. I'm looking for something similar too in either tan or a neutral metallic but nothing hits the mark. Luckily it's not warm enough for them yet so the hunt goes on.
I want a black patent clutch black patent belt the yellow platformish sandals from Office to pull together the outfit I'll be wearing to 3 weddings spanning the summer (happily none of which will boast the same guests!)
Answer:
It's usually a great here or accessory. I find my blush patent chanel bag pulls together any outfit, as does my Mawi lariat ball necklace - it just finishes the outfit.
I am not sure what I would consider my one item for the curent S/S season, mainly because I don't have a particular style in mind.
Answer:
I'd love a pair of nude coloured shoes / closed-toe sandal (wedges perhpas - but delicate ones rather than too chunky). Have looked - but like tinyoneill - I am finding them impossible to find!
+ a pair of slim-fit/straight leg jeans as my skinnies are knackered don't look right on me without a boot over them!

1 Attachment(s) hi just wanted some advice on weather or not to get my hair cut this short, will it suit me or will i look  ? this is me and the hairstyle below. my hair is in a short bob at the moment
Answer:
Personally I love long hair but I so think that style would suit you definitely :great:
Answer:
Yes I agree. I wouldn't get away with a style like that as I don't have the features to carry it, but I think it would suit your face. I also really like the cut.
If unsure ask the hairdresser for advice.
Answer:
thanks for the advice, i love having short hair but just a bit nervous about ending up too short and it taking ages to grow out. so i think i will book to have it done but check with my hairdresser to see what she thinks, even though i think she will say yes as shes always encouraging me to get it shorter anyway
