help me with ski clothes!

NO.1. Ask :
help me with ski clothes!
Hello
I don’t really bag in this area but I need abit of help for those baggers who have been skiing.
I am of to Bulgaria on Saturday and started to pack yesterday for the cold climate, I know I have got to be warm in the evening but im not really sure what I should take, has anyone been here and can advise me what to pack. I thought I could accessorize a lot of plain clothes with waist belts, necklaces earrings etc.
But what I am thinking I should take for the evening is, skinny jeans, culottes, and maybe a pair of shorts to wear with tights and ballet pumps do you think I am on the right line with what I am taking or will people still be casual from the slopes.
please help me i would hate to get out there and wish i have brought something that was at home.
Answer:
unless you're going somewhere seriously posh i doubt you'll see anyone wearing anything much more dressy than jeans. and it'll be much too cold for shorts, i haven't been to bulgaria but i've never been skiing anywhere that was warm enough for shorts in the evening no matter how many pairs of tights you wear. you could be cold in culottes too for that matter.
the roads are also likely to be covered in snow so you'd kill your ballet pumps, you could bring them and change once you got inside i guess but it's not really worth the hassle. you'll need some proper winter shoes or boots, you could wear uggs but there's the risk of salt stains if they salt the streets, i've never had a problem with it but other people have. moon boots are another option, i tend to wear them the most because they're waterproof and very warm. the tecnica ones aren't hugely expensive either but they're a bitch to find here, you might have to order them online. i got mine here years ago, but you might be too late if you're going on saturday, i can't remember how long delivery took...
Answer:
ahh i can help you out here blondie :)
i myself was going through the exact same trauma when i went boarding in bulgaria a couple of weeks ago. havign never been on a winter holiday before i had no idea what to where in the evenings and took a whole heap of stuff that never made it out of my wardrobe so be warned!!
the roads in bulgaria are full of pot holes, mud and potentially also snowy so don't take any shoes that you don't mind getting ruined. i ended up wearing my green flash trainers every night and then throwing them away at the end of the week! :o (took ballet pumps and wedge boots but was too scared to wear them as they would have got ruined!!).
aside from shoes i wore the same pair of jeans every night :o (my skinnies looked ridiculous with my green flash and i also took city shorts but far too cold for that!!) and tried as best i could to wear nice tops under big jumpers and my ski jacket. like you mentioned i tried to accessorise with the odd funky belt or hairband to try and look someway decent!! :p
but anyway don't worry about how you look as people really don't dress up in the evenings.
i went to bansko is that where you're going? i had a fab time, am sure you will too, let me know if you've any other q's.
annanas that snow boot site is great, will get some of those next year i reckon!
Answer:
Yup, I'm not far from the border, and hop across to go skiing nearly every weekend. At the moment it's BERLUDDY cold!!!! Now, i'M not the MOST fashionable person, but i'm fairly well groomed normally but I love the fact that skiing you can let it all go. Trainers/boots, jeans and lots of comfy, warm jumpers. Bulgaria's really casual, so no one will be dressy, it's not important, in fact I often find most people including myself keep in skiing gear!
Let's face it, you have tights on under your sallapettes (forgotten how to spell!!!!) and lovely think socks! Then I take my jacket off, where I have a nice thick sweatshirt on, with polo necks on underneath - lovely and comfy, and I never feel underdressed.
also, chuck out any jewellery, accessories (bags, belts,) there's no need, and forget fancy hair things and too much make up, you'll look and feel like a right prat (and this is coming from someone who's not really comfortable without complete slap!)
Answer:
Thank you so much with my dilemma, I have packed loads of boots that won’t get ruined and I don’t mind if they get ruined as I brought them from primark so I think I will defo take them.
I am going to borvetes first time skiing so that is why I was in the panic about the clothes, think what I have planned to take will be fine, and it don’t harm to have a pair of the city shorts in there just incase, its not like it is going to make my suit case weigh even more.
Thank you!

I'm moving house soon so I've been getting rid of stuff. This week I've sold some clothes on Ebay and given another bag of clothes to Oxfam.
I always get rid of clothes when I realise I no longer wear them, but I was thinking... during my teenage years, my mum gave me at least ten items of clothing that used to be hers. I also have two "vintage" tweed skirts that were made by my grandmother in the 1940's. To be fair, my mum kept some of the clothes because she put on a lot of weight and was hoping to slim into them but never did (although she finally did a few years ago, but now the clothes don't suit her any more).
So does anyone keep clothes to hand down to daughters and nieces one day, or are we all part of this Ebay/charity shop culture? Or maybe, do people chuck stuff out as long as they're doing the flatshare thing, then keep more stuff when they buy their own house one day? I love the idea of keeping stuff to hand down to a future younger member of the family, but don't have any space and wouldn't know what to keep.

    I agree with this!
I think, also, that because fashions change so often and come around time and time again there's nothing 'original' really anymore. I mean, during the 60's mini-skirts etc were all a new thing so were worth keeping.
That said, when we move house and I have more room I'll probably be ebaying less of my own clothes so I can wait for them to be worn again in about 2 seasons time  :p
    Answer:
I often think "Oh I wish I kept that" as fashion is so quickly turned around now that things become fashionable again.BUT then it's also throw away fashion so for me personally I buy a lot of items but don't spend a fortune on each item so I don't mind throwing it out/charity or selling the nicer stuff on Ebay.
Main thing is storage too, would be lovely to keep bits but the wardrobe is bursting as it is!
Maybe just keep the designer pieces or real beautiful items.

Maybe just keep the designer pieces or real beautiful items.
I'd agree with that, also natural fabrics. My bf's grandma (she's 93) and gave me a 70s skirt the other day. I saw it and thought "Oooh, will look great with my vintage boots" but then got up close and it's soooo synthetic, I just don't think I'd ever feel comfortable in it.
I think that's a major problem with the vintage clothes that are around now. The cuts are great, but the material is crap.
Anyway, enough rambling: I'd save the proper designer stuff, (stuff by Biba can fetch $$$ now) and maybe stuff that's a bit different or quirky, but everything else, Oxfam it.
    xxx
    Answer:
I like the idea of keeping stuff for my daughters (if I ever have them), but I don't think it will really be practical! Maybe, as you said, when I get my own house.
I think I will keep some beautiful shoes, and heres, and all my jewellery - but probably not clothes so much.

I'm looking for some boots to wear out clubbing, would these look okay with a mini, or would it be a bit much??
    Answer:
I couldn't get away with it anymore (I'am far too old!) but as long as you haven't got your boobs out too I reckon it should be fine for clubbing... oh just the thought of it makes me feel tired! :o ;)
    Answer:
With opaques, yes. Without, definitely not in my book!

    Answer:
Go for it,they're lovely, are they the Topshop ones?
    Answer:
agree with both of the above posts - non opaques or bare legs and a low cut top and you'll look like you should be touting for business on the street corner i'm afraid. But they're lovely boots!

    O/T Dilemma - Please help
Its my best bates birrthday night out this weekend she has also just got engaged but my boyfriend has was told last week he was up for an award with his company The award ceromony clashes with her birthday so I was gona go solo. His been told today that there will be a day out in london with the nomoniees the company directors/senior managers during the day dinner, award ceromony in the evening and partners are invited. This is a huge deal as there are over 30,000 employees at the company he works for. At the same time its my best mates birthday, except all I've heard from her is that we are going out sat that was a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if its still or or where we are going or if its def sat. She is notorious for not replying I can't get hold of her my phone text or email to find out whats happening. Grr.
I have two hours to decide. Help!!!!!
    Answer:
God that's a tough one  Maybe put yourself in her shoes, if she explained the situation to you, what would you tell her to do? She would surely do the same iyswim. If it's just going to be like any other night out, go to the other do, but maybe if it's something really special go to hers! Then again, if hers is going to be a massive party, you won't really be missed (don't mean that offensively, she would just have loads of people to see!) and you would be better at the other do. Maybe suggest that you and her do something special together on another night so that you can go with your boyf?
    xx
    Answer:
Aaaaaahhhhrrrgh! That's such a horrible situation for you Cornetto :(
It's always said that mates come before boyfriends, but this does sound like a big deal for him. How long have you been together? I think that if my best mate blew my birthday off for a man she'd been with for a long time and was serious about, then I wouldn't mind so much - but if it was a newer boyfriend, I'd be fuming!
Maybe keep trying your friend (by phone, not text/email) and when you do finally get hold of her, explain the situation, tell her what a horrible choice you have to make! Emphasise that you love her to bits, and want to celebrate her birthday, but this is also a huge once-in-a-lifetime deal for your boyfriend. If she's a good friend, she should understand and may tell you to go ahead to your boyfriend's do. BUT if she gets upset about it, I think you should go to her birthday :) If you can't get hold of her, then you can't go to her birthday anyway can you, as you won't know the arrangements!
If you do miss your friend's birthday though, make sure you go out together another night, treat her, buy her a really nice present, take her out somewhere nice etc. I've been on the receiving end of my best friend putting her boyfriend first, and it's horrible! (not saying you're doing that, but just try and make her feel special too!) :)
    Sorry for the essay!
    Answer:
if it were me I'd go to the awards do, your friend has a birthday every year, your boyfriends not gonna get an award every year  (or maybe he is, I dunno :o ) and if your friend hasn't given you any details or anything then it can't really be that big a deal :meh: thats just my opinion though
    Answer:
    Thanks for your replies.
I've been with him six years so I think its serious :p I have an hour forty mins left before his company needs to know. I feel really bad though as she has just got engaged it would be nice to see her.
I've always said mates first too to be honest the thought of the awards scares me. There will prob be 30-40 of us on a pub crawl then local club but I don't leave in the area anymore so I don't see her that often and not sure when I'll be able to see her next.
