Skinny leg trews on curvy figures
Ladies, just looking for an HONEST opinion, as my mum and hubbie are (i think) biased.
I got a pair of the black topshop skinny trews last week in a moment of madness (sized 14-16 here as you all know), simply because I had seen and imagined loads of nice outfit possibilities using them, and wanted to see if they were really 'that bad' on me.
Well, tried them on with some different tops and my leopardprint round toes, and found myself staring suspiciously in the mirror thinking 'I must have hit the bottle and forgotten cause I'm actually thinking they're nice on  '
Anyway, called hubbie and he (of course:lol: )just grabbed my a ss and said that they were gorgeous and to keep them. but I don't trust him as he likes my figure anyway so I tried them on agani the next evening for my mum and she went all 'oh god, they actually make you look smaller', and other comments about them being really cute and young looking on me in a different way to the jeans/trousers I normally wear.
Anyway, fat girl logic prevailed and I just couldn't bring myself to believe them and returned the trousers  , but I'm still obsessing about them now :o
What do you HONESTLY think when you see a girl larger than say a size 10-12 wearing them? I'm not a flabby larger size, more somebody who has always had wide-ish curvey hips (even when a size 8) flat tum, not too sticky out bum, and now I have the C cups to balance them out. I LOOOOOVE the black skinny trews but don't want to end up looking like a 'fat girl who wants to but should know better...'
So....... end of a ramble :o , I'm just wondering what you honestly think when you see larger girls wearing what was perhaps designed with slimmer girls in mind? do you think automatically that they shouldn't try it?
Answer:
It is a complete myth that those of us with a larger girth can't wear fitted and skinny things. And your mum is right, if they fit you properly then they will make you look slimmer.
I saw a girl the other day who was slim, no bigger than a size 10 and she was wearing skinnies and she looked awful. They didn't fit her. She had an enormous muffin top, fat belly poking out and she just looked hideous.
My mum is a big lass. She was a size 22, but has slimmed down and is back to a size 18 again. She hasn't worn jeans or trousers for about 25 years. I took her shopping in New Look the other day and encouraged her to try on a pair of jeans. She got the most perfect pair of bootcuts that look absolutely stunning on her. Even my dad who is anti-jeans thought she looked stunning.
So providing you get something that fits you well, then yes it can look good. I am a size 14-16 in jeans and I can look good in skinnies. You just have to try loads on and buy the ones that work for you. So go back and get the black skinnies :D
Answer:
Tiny, I was looking at these in Topshop last night but they didn't have my leg length. I'm really wanting a pair. I don't suppose you could pos a pic to see what they look like?
I would take notice of your mum as they are always honest and wouldn't like you leaving the house feeling and looking uncomfortable. Go for it!
Answer:
:thanks: cool!!! I think I might go back at lunchtime today and fingers crossed they'll be in the branch (it was actually town I bought them in and returned them to). I can't post a pic hon cause I returned them in my disbelieving state of 'you're all just being too nice to say I look like a heffalump' mind  Fingers crossed they'll still be in stock now when I try to replace them.
Answer:
Go get them again! I actually think that ladies with a bit more 'shape' to them look great in these kind of jeans - they can show off curves nicely - these things all depend on how you wear them too I think. As GATC said, would love to see a pic of them - are they on Topshop's website?

Answer:
I saw some yesterday, they were £12 I think. Don't have any pics i'm afraid but they're in the section with all the folded up jeans - not on hangers.

I've seen two different types - one that are just white (like in my style diary), and one with beige-y stitching.

Christmas party outfit on the cheap!

Christmas party outfit on the cheap!
Hello fashion baggers,
This is my first post on fashion so please be gentle with me!
My company Christmas party is on Monday at a fairly swanky hotel and I want to dress up!
BUT
Because of ex-landlord shoddiness I am shorter of cash than I had hoped to be :(
Can any of you wonderful people help me put together an outfit that will look pretty, sexy, posh and a little bit fairy-like on a budget?
I'm 5ft 1, size 10 and slightly apple shaped so tummy-hiding things are good. Unfortunately I don't seem to suit wrap dresses all that much (but maybe I have tried the wrong ones...)
Any help is very much appreciated!

:) :)
Answer:
I should add, my budget is around £50 - less if possible.
I have very fair skin with freckles, light brown longish hair and blue eyes.
thanks!
:)
Answer:
Do you already have shoes, bag and jacket you can wear??? When I had a last minute black tie do the other week I went to TS who have plenty of dresses for under £50. I managed to track down thanks to Mitchey a TS Galaxy rip off, but not the satin one everyone has, but a cowl neck heavier fabric one which I teamed with bright green Marc Jacobs heels, vintage black patent belt, gold clutch and leopard print fake fur jacket. The dress was £35 and I didn't spend a penny beyond that. So if you have a decent TS near by I am sure you'll find something in your price range.

This is the dress i wore on my birthday and its so lovely, £40 from next. and the way there is detail on the hip hid my wobbly tummy so well! i had so many compliements about it

Thanks for the replies!
Mimi - Shoes are another problem altogether! I have been living in boots and trainers for ever and the only pairs of shoes I have is a pair of camel pointy stilettos and a fuschia pink pair similar.
Jacket, well I have a burgundy velvet effect blazer with slightly puffed sleeves from Primark and a cream wool vintage cape/jackety type thing with big buttons. All the rest of my coats/jackets are casual.
isg - that dress is really pretty - normally I avoid Next like the plague but that is lovely. Do you think it would look silly with fuschia pink stilettos?!
Oh god, I've realised I really am starting from scratch and I should pay a bit more attention to going out type clothes! I've worn all the stuff I do have to previous Christmas parties and the like so I need to get shopping when I have the cash.
I should be able to manage a trip to TS Oxford Circus if I'm feeling brave at the weekend so with any luck I'll find something in there. That place scares the bejesus out of me though...
Thanks for the help:)
Decent Suit needed (reasonable price, 30 leg)

Decent Suit needed (reasonable price, 30 leg)
I know I can count on you guys but having trouble finding a nice suit.
Im starting a new job soon and would love a lovely new suit (or suits depending on what I find). Dont really like Next suits as the waistlines are too high and im inbetween a 12/14 in their sizes. Tried Zara but the trousers are way to long. Anyone got any suggestions of where else to look?
These are my requirements:
* decent material
* Fitted jacket just below hip length
* 30/31 leg trousers with low waist line or an a lined skirt
* reasonably priced
Thanks in advance
Answer:
do the zara ones fit you otherwise? then the easiest thing would be to just take them up. i find zara fit me the best overall so i don't really have any other suggestions..
Answer:
Agree with Anannas - and Zara will usually organise the adjustments for you at reasonable price.
Debenhams has a sale starting next Wed with a black trouser suit in their Collection range reduced to about £50! Just happen to have the flyer in front of me.

Do love Zara suits but didn't know they could do that. Got the last one in the sale so done the alterations myself. Debenhams I always find not the best quality but if it is in the sale, I might have a peek.
Used to get my suits from HM but they have all bobbled or faded in colour.
Might find out about Zara though.
Answer:
Have you tried Mexx? I quite like their suits too. But defo agree with the Zara thing.

I have bought this dress in black for tomorrow night, was thinking of gold heels but not sure what jewelery I should use, if any?
Any ideas ladies? :)
Answer:
If you are wearing gold heels, then I would advise wearing gold jewellery as well!
Very nice dress :great:
Answer:
I don't think i'd wear any jewellery apart from maybe some earrings...the dress is statement enough.
Answer:
I only have silver jewelery really - what sort of gold necklace should I get do you think?
Answer:
I wouldn't wear a necklace with it either - maybe earrings or a striking bangle, but not a necklace, but that's my personal taste only. A quirky or offbeat necklace could work though.
If you're wearing gold shoes, I'd go with not-gold jewellery (a bit too matchy for me!) - teal would be my first choice.
