dressmakers in london and south

NO.1. Ask :
dressmakers in london and south
i've done a search but i suspect this is something people keep in their secret address books...can anyone recommend a dressmaker?
i want to have a dress copied in a new fabric for a wedding and the dressmaker i contacted wants £400+fabric which i thought a bit cheeky; the original was from emporio armani, is a million times better made than the "couture" things she had on her sample rail, and it cost £100 less to boot. am i being unrealistic or just looking in the wrong place?
thanks in advance for any contact details. and you can PM them to me if you don't want to give away your secrets;)
Answer:
Hi.
I would say that price is about right for the amount of hours that is put into drafting a pattern and making a dress. pattern cutters alone get paid a fortune! I know it sounds easy to do but it is very difficult and very time consuming. Im not sure if you'll find anyone who would do it cheaper than that really. I hope you find a solution :)
You could try the yellow pages. Ive found dressmakers on there before, but in the north.
Answer:
My friend used a brilliant one past Bromley, can't remember what the area is called, is it Sundridge Park? I know you had to go through New Eltham then Bromley to get there. She copied a wedding dress my friend loved that was £1600 and I think it cost £400. It had loads of hand stitching on it.

ooh, do you think you could ask your friend for the number?! bromley i could cope with :)
the thing is, i don't mind paying a lot, but if it won't look as good as the dress i already have, (and judging by this woman's sample rail, it wouldn't) then i can't see the point, even if she does have to go to a lot of time and trouble. does that make sense?
Answer:
I asked my friend and she only had the name and place - its Pat Brazier and she was at Elmers End Road - not sure if she is still doing it but maybe a search on her name you may discover her.

    Two Rumours - Phoebe Philo/Mulberry and HM/Prada
Heard that Phoebe Philo is moving from Chloe to Mulberry and that the next HM collaberation will be with Prada. Who knows if the rumours will prove true but if the Chloe touch with bags moves to Mulberry I am done for!!!!!
    Answer:
I thought Phoebe had already left Chloe because she wanted to spend more time with her family?
    Answer:
This was on the Vogue website today:-
    PHOEBE'S NOT GOING

RUMOURS that Phoebe Philo is about to land a job at Mulberry come as news to the British company itself this morning. Since Philo announced in January that she was resigning from Chloe to spend more time in London with her family, speculation has been rife about which London-based label would snap her up. And Mulberry, where Stuart Vevers is currently creative director, is the name we've heard most. "We'd be delighted if Phoebe was to join us but there is no truth in the rumour," said a spokesperson this morning. "Stuart's contract is ongoing and he's not planning on going anywhere." Answer:
Well it's doubtful that it is true but I never believe these kinds of denials until something is firmly in or out of the bag!

    Hey ladies
Mr AMP is in need of help and I'm being a bit crap at the moment so need your help!
He wants to buy a navy pinstripe suit and isn't sure what colour shirts he can wear with it. I think a very pale white-blue wash would be ok ranging up to a mid blue. He wants to wear a white shirt though and is unsure about a blue shirt as it maybe 'too blue'
Whatdya think, which colour is a better match? Or any other colours?
    AMP
    Answer:
Lilac and very pale pink. If you want to get "fancy" white w fine blue check looks very nice (saw on Sir Alan Sugar)
    Answer:
baby blue, indigo, grey.... sorry AMP not sure either navy is a hard colour to match imo.
    Answer:
how about pale lemon or pink or pale lilac.
A bloke in my work had quite a bold navy white pinstripe on with a pink shirt it looked good! :flirt:
    Answer:
White's fine, just safe and thus rather dull. I agree with all the other suggestions, shades of blue, lilac, pink, lemon, beige, white patterned with blue, lilac or red ...
If I recall correctly, the first male model in the Next directory is wearing a navy pinstripe suit with a deep pink shirt ... he looks hot ... :o
