Can anyone recommend some nice ones? Preferably with amazing thigh-slimming powers...

Topshop are doing black ones now - Baxters. Buy them really tight and they will stretch to a nice fit. I don't have them in black but the baxters are my fave reasonably priced skinnies.

New Year's Eve - what to wear?
Apologies if this has been discussed already, or maybe I'm a bit early! But for those of you who are planning a normal night on the town for NYE, what are you planning to wear? I still don't know what to wear at xmas but will hopefully throw something together.
Basically I'm spending new year's up north where my boyfriend is from, and I don't know whether to go all out glam with a dress or to just wear jeans and a top or something...?? I don't have any shorts but am open to buying them. I have some fab platforms that are kind of silver and grey peep toes and am hoping to wear something to match them.
So if you've got any outfit ideas, post them here!

I was going to post about NY outfits so you're not too early!!
I have some outfit ideas in mind:
Black short shorts with a long length vest (probably black, red or green), black beads entwined with grey metallic beads and red beads, bangles etc, chunky black leather clinch belt and black high heel ankle boots. Will probably wear black opaques as well and black cropped fitted jacket.
Long length black vest with a few sequins (looks like a short dress) over black leggings and am thinking my gold low heeled peep toes with gold and bronze accessories and black leather clinch belt. Could wear high heeled bronze peep toes or red platforms (if they went).
Skinny jeans in grey, blue or black with leopard print long length t-shirt from TS with blue vintage heels or red platforms and beads and bangles etc - although I fancy something a bit smarter for NY's so wouldn't mind wearing a polka dot chiffon blouse (if I can find one!!) black clinch belt.
Somehow, that will probably all change due to the fact I'll be hitting the shops in between xmas and NY and hope to find something new and would probably mix and match all that anyway!
Your platforms sound great!! There's a lot of shorts in the shops at the moment - I've seen more this month than I did in August! You could team the platforms with some black opaques, shorts and a plain vest so it doesn't look too dressy. If you like skinny jeans then you can dress them up also.

I'd like the high heeled ones in Office or the flat ones in Dolcis but can't seem to find a picture of either of them to show my OH.

Does anyone know where i can get skinny jeans that are a little bit higher waisted? I don't mean under my boobs or too grannyish. I would only wear them with long tops anyway but i just feel uncomfortable having tight jeans that are way below the belly button and i have a roll of flab hanging over the top.

Well i don't know about skinny jeans, but i bought some jeans from HM the other day that are higher than most others i've got, and I really like them (they still sit under my belly button, but it helps reduce the muffin effect). (I'd been looking for some slightly higher waisted jeans for a while - yippee!).
I really like their new labelling, as you can easily choose the height of the waist, width of the leg etc. FYI, the ones I chose are regular waisted (rather than low cut or super low). If you see regular in combination with skinny legged, you should be fine.

I got some black skinny jeans in the HM sale for £4.99 that go to my waist rather then below my belly button. Admittedly I look like a Nolen sister without a long top on but they do give a more flattering line once dressed.
