what jacket to wear with tunics?
*delurks momentarily*
hello,
my summer uniform of skinny jeans with tunics has come a cropper with the random cold days that keep disrupting the beautiful weather (although not quite so enjoyable in London..). I was just wondering what jackets would best go with the shape of a tunic? In the winter, I was wearing them with a 60s style mustard trapeze shaped mid calf jacket, which looked really interesting with the skinnies.
I'm a hourglassy 12-14 with 32g cleavage which means I probably shouldn't be wearing tunics in the first place, but it also means swing jackets look really truly awful. I have an empire-cut ruchy (that's a word, right?) double-breasted jacket from Topshop (I think Miss Sweetcheeks owns it..) but the line doesn't work with tunics, as I have this mini skirt of tunic sticking out. I'm stuck. And cold. What kind of jumpers/cardis go? It's a total faff if you're wearing a long sleeved t-shirt underneath in the morning to keep warm, then you have to take it off in a loo cos the sun's come out! (Ahem, did it in my car the other day too, I have no shame..)
Any ideas? Sorry for the epic post - it's been an issue for weeks!!
thank you xxx
Answer:
How about a light, bracelet sleeved, little mac in a stone or a bright colour, Primark had a few last time I was in there.
Answer:
I've been wearing shrugs with my volume tops and dresses in recent chilly weather - it gives me warmth up top but doesn't disturb the line. It also IMO actually makes the tunics work better for my figure (I'm a 34G) as it makes them more empire-like.
Alternatively I've been wearing a long-sleeved t under the tunics and a pashmina knotted around my neck.
On a desperate day I did wear a big shawl but I felt I looked like a big lump of laundry so i won't be wearing that again - it was just the right level of warmth though:boohoo: .

I like the idea of wearing a shrug, I know what you mean with that issue! I only have one tunic which I wear to work over black trousers, but I have to wait until the weather is just right for me to wear it as I don't know what jacket to put with it! A black shrug would look good with it I think.. thanks!

I am wearing a light weight cropped sleeve jacket with Mac style front to it with my tunics.

and do you know if they have it to buy from the next directory? its the only maxi dress i have seen so far that i really like, but i havent seen it irl, so would appreciate some opinions on it. :thanks:
Answer:
I saw it last night at the Marble Arch branch, but I wasn`t very impressed. It is made from that Nylony Chiffon look fabric and it has a gathered pleat under the bust that would make most non super models look preggers. Also on the manaquins it looks quite `half mast` sort of 2inches about ankle length and the colours are more muted than they look in the add.

Casual work wear?
NO.3. ask :
Casual work wear?
Hi all,
I work in a university, so quite a casual environment. I usually wear indigo jeans + top of some description and ballet pumps. I've been wearing dresses with opaques in the colder weather, but I'm not keen on going bare legged with dresses just yet. I've been feeling a bit of a scruff recently, so I'd love to hear any ideas about how I can make my work clothes more interesting, without going too smart. Thank you!
Answer:
I feel your pain Arish, I work at a uni too.
In the hotter weather I've been wearing ankle length leggings with flat shoes and dresses and then slightly longer shirt or wrap dresses with bare legs and gladiator sandals. I've worn looseish linen trousers with jersey tops and dresses and more fitted cute white tops and blouses and I've also worn city shorts and smock tops when it's been really hot.
It's tricky when you're surround by students and scruffy academics a lot of the time. I also keep a cheapo primark suit jacket on the back of my chair juts in case i ever have to have a meeting with someone important!
Answer:
Don't work in a uni but am a teacher. I dress quite casually although I don't wear jeans. I've been wearing a lot of wide legged trousers with wrap tops or kaftan-y type tops, as they are nice and cool in my greenhouse-like classroom. Linen trousers and flip flops are comfortable and can look reasonably smart. I also wear a lot of just below the knee silk skirts, from places like Oasis who always seem to have a nice selection, or, again from Oasis, dresses with a v neck and fitted waist with sort of Kimono-ish sleeves, over skinnier fit trousers and ballet shoes.
I also have a big selection of chunky necklaces, to jazz up a more boring outfit - if I'm having a "black" day for example, in black trews and black top, I might wear a big chunky purple necklace to "lift" it a bit.

My tutor is 27 and has been wearing boot cut jeans with nice boots and tshirt lenght puff sleeved cute shirts. It looks really nice.
Answer:
Mannish-feel wide-legged trousers, ballet flats or low wedges in strong colours, a chunky belt, tee shirt or vest and eyecatching jewellery. I almost lived in that when I was teaching at uni. I quite like the combination of smart trousers with everything else casual.
Plain jersey dresses are good too - very easy to add a bit of interest with a belt, jewellery etc. I wear nude fishnets as a compromise in weather when it's not quite warm enough for bare legs (MS should do some).
Shift dresses can work too, maybe with a cardie or patterned jacket to dress it down, and chunky wedges? Or a pretty patterned skirt, maybe worn with a plain tee and ballet flats or sandals? New Look have lots of pretty cotton patterned skirts in atm.

Please help me find shoes!
NO.5. ask :
Please help me find shoes!
It's my sister's wedding a week on Saturday and I have found a dress.
Now I have been EVERYWHERE in the search for shoes. I have major problems with nice shoes because I have excessively narrow feet and really high arches. So most shoes gape on me and when I wear heels my instep sticks out of them. Wearing strappy high heels means double the problem and my feet just look twisted and weird in them.
I would really like a pair of black patent shoes (or silver ones) to go with this dress but I can't find any that won't cripple me within minutes or fall off as I follow my sister down the aisle. I was thinking some Mary Janes might work but I can't find any.
I'm a dancer and I thought about getting some dance shoes to wear - do you think something would look weird?
Answer:
Would something like be any use to you? They're from HM and very comfy.

Answer:
2 Attachment(s) I think those shoes are a bit heavy for the dress, I would personally go for a black sandle type shoe - they have loads in faith, these 2 are quite good and the first pair are only £20 in the sale!
Answer:
g_k - which ones - I'm not a Style Diary person so I just got the home page.
Coops - I know they are a bit heavy. I guess the fact that I would consider them show just how desperate I am! The shes you posted are very lovely and I tried them on but they just don't fit my horrible feet!
I have even looked at narrow feet shoe shops on the internet but they are all for horrible old ladies' shoes.:boohoo:
Answer:
You don't need to be registered with Style Diary to view pics; don't know why that didn't work. Here they are anyway.
