Omg clothes make up has taken over my life

Omg clothes make up has taken over my life
Ok I also posted this in the salon but its dead in there and i dont know why i didnt post it in here in the first place. Sorry if youve already read it.
I was just tidying my room and having a good sorrt out of all my stuff and throwing things out which i dont need to keep as i can be a bit of a horder. I came across an old notepad with some workings out on the money that i had at the time and im shocked! I had literally almost £1,000 savings in my bank account and i was a student and i think it must have been about 2-3 years ago. Now i have £0. What the hell has happened??? I used to be a very good saver and i enjoyed saving money. Now dont get me wrong i do have money nowadays and budget well to make sure i have money for my car and things like that but thw rest of the money i use to get me from week to week is blown on clothes and make up till i get paid the following weekend.
Sorry for the enormous rant ive just completely shocked myself at how bad my spending has gotten in the past couple of years. I get withdrawl symptoms if i dont buy at least one thing in a week and there always seems to be something i need (or want). Though its not money wasted because 90% of the time i use the stuff i buy. Hmm i dont know what to do. id love to go on a spending diet but not sure i can. At the moment im on summer hols (student at uni) and im only working 13.5hrs a week so i have a lot of spare time to browse the net and look at clothes websites.
I need a kick up the backside. Can anyone help?? x
Answer:
I'm stuck in the house a lot because of illness, so I know what it's like to have lots of free time on your hands and too many lovely things to buy online :) Whenever I feel the urge to buy something, I go and look through my wardrobe to see if I've already got something similar. If I have, I try it on and experiment with new ways to wear it so I feel like I've 'bought' a new outfit. Gawd...that sounds really sad but it's probably saved me a small fortune
You need to find something else to do to occupy your time during the holidays. I think a lot of the time we buy things because we're bored, or just want that 'buzz' of something new. Why not set yourself a target of saving half your disposable income and then you wouldn't feel guilty about spending the other half.
Answer:
I think that sometimes, especially as a student, it is hard to stick to a budget.

It's not just buying things, it's the general lifestyle of being expected to socialise and drink etc. Although student bars are cheap, it all adds up if you go 3 times a week, and I have loads of friends who spend about £80 a week at least on maintaining their student social life.

I don't spend nearly that much, partly because I prefer drinking in nicer pubs (I know that's very snobby, but if im spending money on drinking, i'd rather spend it in somewhere nicer and less rowdy:o !) and that I can't physically drink the same as a lot of other people, it makes me ill (not just sick, but feeling rotten for 2/3 days after. My maternal grandmother was allergic to alcohol, i wonder if i have the same problem as it makes me feel awful!) and that not living on Campus at uni means I can't always go out at night with my uni friends.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that being a student is a hard time in terms of money. I get about 3 letters a week from credit card companies offering me credit (I refuse, as I know how easy it is to get into debt with them) and offered store cards (which i've paid off and cut up) and basically there is so much temptation to spend without any real consequences. And in the holidays, when there isn't that much to do and the lure of internet shopping being there, it's so easy to spend spend spend.

I try and save money, but it's not easy!

Being a student means there are always things to spend money on. This time last year, my expenses were non - existent practically, but I have loads:boohoo:

I think you're absolutely right but well done you for resisting the lure of the easy student debt Mr Pink and I were students and boy are we paying for it now..its all too easy to just take on credit cards and store cards and such like and when you do finish studying and start working and then thinking about the future it can be an awfully long slog to be debt free.
We were sensible in the end and consolidated all our debts which will finally be paid off in 2009.. on the plus side it has taught me never to get into any kind of major debt again.. now I will never owe anything I can't actually pay off.
If I had advice for any students out there it would be that don't think you'll just be able to pay all your debts off when you get a job because it just doesnt work like that.
Answer:
erm think ive made a bit of a wrong impression as i have to say i dont think im a typical student which in my opinion is a good thing. I dont go out a lot drinking mainly because ive had a very hectic year doing 8 modules instead of the normal 6 so havent had time plus i dont particularly like clubs etc, i much prefer a quiter or smaller place to drink and chat etc. Also most of my friends are either hard to pin down or dont live local to me. I dont own any store cards or credit cards and i dont plan to for as long as possible as i dont like the trouble that they tend to bring with them. Im very good at planning my money so i very very rarely go into my overdraft or anything. It helps that i get paid at the end of each week. I just dont understand where this urge to shop has come from. i just cant get enough of it. The other day i didnt have enough money to buy a belt i wanted and the though of putting it back on the shelf made me feel very strange. Thats not right is it? I must try to limit my spending as with the amount of hours i work i just cant really afford to. I need to start putting a bit of money back each week.
Generally i need to sort my life out. I need a new job for starters but being too lazy and a bit scared of interviews etc as ive never had one :S Plus i cant actually find a suitable job for my qualifications and for the hours i need so ive been advised to dress up smart and just walk into places with my cv and ask to speak to the manager or whoever, which scares me to death more than interviews. sorry im so rambling x

1 Attachment(s) Do you think you need big boobs to pull it off?? I am size 10-12 , tall with small boobs but, long legs. Tried it on it topshop but 12 was too big and couldnt be bothered to get a ten!.
    Answer:
I love it, I'm sure you would look fantastic in it if you got the right size.
    Answer:
I don't think you need big boobs at all to pull that dress off. In my opinion, you sound the perfect shape for it.
    Answer:
Like the dress shape (although i would wear it as a top :o ) not so keen on the fabric... but I don't think you need big boobs to carry it off... although I think that you do need some kind of boobage to wear it though. Hope that helps :)
    Answer:
    Hi!
I have a very similar one (with a huge bow at waist band) and looks lovely on, if I might say so - and no, you dont need to be a D cup to look nice in it! ;)

Do you put on a front?
Just wanted to see if other people do this.
I always put on a front and pretend I am really happy when really I am down because I don't want people to see that side of me....the unconfident unhappy side.
    Answer:
Constantly. I'm putting on a front right now. I'd love to go home, hide under my duvet and have a good old cry. However, I'm here at work looking as if I am productive.
    Answer:
No I don't...however I'm feeling people know it, I am usually a happy person which is good but if I am down about something or tired or pissed off or whatever I generally let people know...can't be arsed with acting like everything is ok if its not.
    Answer:
I do that sometimes, but also as a measure of self help. If you force yourself to feel happy you can often convince yourself you are. IMO thats not a bad thing. :D

Its standard. We had to pay it too..its about £70 I think. If you order it online they should just connect you remotely but if there's any problems they'll come out ..they won't charge you anymore. Can't remember how long it took to have an active phone line when we first moved in..wasn't long I don't think.. bad memory!!
    Answer:
Thanks for your reply!! I went ahead and ordered it online! It said that someone will call me in the next 3 days to arrange a convenient time to install the line! eeekk i hope they do call! theres no way that im calling them again and holding for a million years!
    Answer:
they can check wether your flat has had a bt line in the past though so you wont have to pay the £70. Or have I missed something and you deff don't have one?
We never had to pay that when we moved in as there already was a line here
    Answer:
Its actually 124.99!! :cmeek: if you don't already have a phone line in place!
Its a ridiculous amount of money, where I live there are 18 flats so BT will receive 124.99 per flat!! cheeky b*stards!
