is french connection now considered a bit tacky?

NO.1. Ask :
is french connection now considered a bit tacky?
hey everyone
I used to think french connection was quite a stylish store.... it seemed top-end high street and i would only really buy from it in the sales! :o
then I started earning more and went there more regularly thinking it was a step up from Next, Gap etc. bought a nice suit there, for instance.
but over the last year or so I've been getting the idea its image has slid... heard something about how they are phasing out the f.c.u.k brand because it's considered a bit naff.
(I mean the ones with that specific combo of letters... the ones here censors!!! ie. they are rebranding as "french connection" not the abreviation)
i popped in there today and there were quite a few f.c.u.k tshirts in the sale, but they seemed a bit.... "labelly", almost chavvy . not classy somehow. :cmdunno:
what is the shop's reputation these days...has it gone downhill? what sort of brand image has it got at the moment??
Answer:
The slogan tees have been tacky for years! i used to wear them in abundance when I was aged 18/19 (nuff said).
The clothes IMO are nice, though overpriced. I love their winter coats but at £180+ a pop, I may aswell put that towards a designer coat, no?
Answer:
Hi - I think they try to bridge the gap between high street and designer? however I think they just come across as a snobby high street store! :cmdunno: They do come out with a few lovely things though - I bought that serpent dress at Xmas but I also find some of their clothes a really 'weird' fit.

This is my first post BTW - loving all the advice!!
Answer:
I think its still a fairly decent brand - like caramelX said slogan t-shirts have always been naff (I too loved them in my teens :o ).
I do think though that it is definitely overpriced - I think thats how they try and differentiate themselves but Im sure the quality is reflected in this.
Answer:
I've bought quite a few things from there lately, I think they are a bit different than the rest of the high street, nice tailoring, shapes and prints are usually a bit unusual, quality is good too, unlike a lot of shops at the moment. Some of the stock is over-priced but generally I think they are pretty spot on with it.
Slogan T shirts are very tacky though!

Shoe Nightmare - Ugrent Help Please
I've discovered mould in my very extensive shoe collection - horrid greeny-grey mould is growing on the leather. Obviously it's targetting the most expensive shoes, Gucci, green and fluffy, New Look completely untouched :boohoo: I'm washing them in a Milton solution to try and kill it but is there anything else I can do to kill it? I'm thinking maybe there's a product that can go in the storage boxes to kill the moult spores. I'm also washing the dust bags and storage boxes in Milton. I'm taking the opportunity to do do a footwear audit, I am currently up to 78 pairs and I don't think I'm half way through yet :o
    Answer:
Hi Pansymouse, sorry to hear about your poorly shoes. I took my old DM boots from under my bed last year had to use Cif cream to get the mould off. What you're doing with the Milton fluid sounds like a good idea but what about putting some silica sachets in the boxes after you've cleaned them up? I know they are used to get rid of moisture in the air I'm pretty sure moisture exaccerbates mould. However I have no idea where to get these sachets from.
Good luck, it's a nightmare that the "good" shoes have been targeted over the less expensive options :boohoo:
    Answer:
:cmeek: MOULD!!!!!!!! this has never happened to me..how long have the shoes been there ???
    Answer:
Oh Pansymouse that's awful :higgies: I would definitely second what dollyd said about the silica sachets, they absorb the moisture. Hope you can get them all cleaned up :fingers: I expect all the wet humid weather you guys have been having over there hasn't helped :(
    Answer:
5652003) :cmeek: MOULD!!!!!!!! this has never happened to me..how long have the shoes been there ???
It started when I started storing some of them under my bed about six weeks ago. I think theat the source may be the matress so I've ordered a new one - that how much I love my precious shoes.
I'm going of to Google a source of silica sachets and bulk buy them.

3 Attachment(s) :boohoo: I'm selling these shoes on ebay which cost around £300 in 1998. They haven't been worn so are still in new condition. However, what happens if the bid only reaches a tenner or something (apart from me topping myself?)! I'm scared of ebaying stuff but I need the money and I'll never wear them..
    Answer:
You need to set a reserve price, or start the bidding at the lowest price you would accept for them (not sure which is best).
    Answer:
if I set a reserve price does that mean I'm likely to get less bids?
    Answer:
I don't think you will get less bids, as the reserve price isn't shown (as far as I know) but obviously, if the bids don't go up to the reserve price, the item doesn't get sold (but you still have to pay the listing fees, which are higher if you put a reserve on them).
    Answer:
You can set a reserve price of minimum £50. bidders will bid if details of the shoes are clear i.e. brand, colour, where you bought them from, ideas of what to wear them with, how much they were etc.
    Good luck!

New jeans wanted for a neeeeeewbeeeee!
Hi - I am a here.com virgin and came across this site and the style diaries last night when looking for reviews on a new dress I had bought (somebody here had the same one :) ) and ended up on here all night much to my hubby's despair!!

Whilst looking at the style diaries (felt a bit like a peeping Tom :o ) I noticed one of the girls on here had ace jeans - River Island - kind of high waisted but not the really high, under the bust style, just not low rise jeans which were kind of skinny at the top and then flared out in an exaggerated boot leg. Anyway I have just had baby and am kind of a 14 round the belly and bum but with skinny little legs coming out - so all out of proportion - do you think these jeans would suit me or is there a better style - soooo not used to dressing my new body!

Sorry for rambling :cmdunno: I shall go and try to find out who actually owns these jeans for a link.

clairabelle? They are the river island jeans you have that I like.
    Answer:
River Island jeans are great, IMO. Lots of choice and reasonable value.
    Answer:
    Thanks.

I think what I was trying to say was that as I am carrying around a little extra weight in the belly area if high waisted jeans or low rise are more flattering. I sometimes think if they are low then they sit under my belly and then I can hide it with flary top however then I look like I am still pregnant or if just covering the whole belly with the jeans with a high waist is better but then I fear I look like a barrel from the side with boobs spilling over the waist line! :cmdunno:

hmmmm. must slim away this problem once and for all!
    Answer:
I think if you can find them, medium rise would be best. Low rise or high waisted is a no no in my book. I've got a wobbly belly too and high waist looks plain silly and an overhang over low rise jeans is not a pretty sight!!! I've got jeans that sit nicely not too high or low and makes me feel much more comfortable too.
    Answer:
Yep - I think I need to go into town and take a few pairs into the changing room. Thanks for your help - my trusty all in one underwear helps a lot!!!

    Answer:
    Hi Raincloud
I'd steer clear of the advertised photoshoots where you have your pics taken in outfits they suggest, get given some lunch and then have the option to buy them. You usually see the adverts with a cheesy girl in soft focus with her hands resting under her chin :head:
I would maybe find a photographer who wants to build his portfolio and can use your shots in exchange for you getting free photos. Let me know if you need a pointer as I have the add for a site where photographers advertise themselves for this sort of thing. You'd have a bit more of a free hand in what style pics you want taking as well.
    xx

Hello everyone  Haven't posted in ages been very busy!!
where do you live? I am a photographer based in herts and have done some portfolios! I won't charge the earch and you can choose what you want!
I agree to avoid the studios advertising a "pampering day", as they will do a BIG sales push on you and the pics are rubbish and stupidly expensive!! a friend used them a few years ago for her portfolio and ended up paying just short of £400 for inkjet prints!!

    I've tried googling it.
