Mother's Birthday...

NO.1. Ask :
Mother's Birthday...
Hello,
I'm going out tomorrow night with my Mum, Dad, and my man for my Mum's birthday. We're going for dinner and then to the casino. My dilemma is; what do I wear that is suitable for both?! I've never been to this certain casino before so I don't know what the dress code usually is, and my dad and boyfriend who are both members are being useless and saying I'll be fine whatever I wear! Aaargh men!
I'm not sure if your allowed to wear jeans so don't want to risk it and woul rather get a little bit glammed up really. Not sure if a dress will be slightly too dolled-up though!
So, should I wear my black tuxedo trousers and some sort of glitzy top or should I wear a knee length dress of some sort? (Think short dress would be slightly innapropriate!)
Thanks for any ideas
SPx
Answer:
In my huge experience of casinos (ie. Bond Films) I'd say a short skirt or jeans would probably be inappropriate, however something knee length or a suit would be perfect.
Your parents are very glam aren't they! I have a friend who's mum has lunch at Claridges every Sunday followed by an afternoon at the Casino (she is a bit nuts i have to say!).

Answer:
I'd go for tuxedo trousers and a glam top SP - I know some casinos don't mind jeans but I'd feel a bit scruffy and it's better to be safe. Sounds like it'll be a lovely night!
Just out of interest, what top would you wear with your tux troos? - I never know what to wear with mine and so I don't wear them very much.

Re: Mother's Birthday...
A black tux and a glitzy top sounds perfect to me. A fairly classic understated knee length dress would work perfectly well too, I'm sure. But since my experience of casinos, like Mimi, is limited to Bond films...

Answer:
Wow SP, that sounds like fun! I'd say don't wear jeans - in my experience, none of the "nicer" casinos will let you in wearing jeans. Best to go a little glam - think you tuxedo trousers sound fab!

    NO.2. ask :
    River Island?
Anyone bought anything in River Island lately? I have seen a couple of nice tops of their website - looking for something dressy, but all I can find on Topshop...Miss Selfridge is casual vest tops and the likes!!!! Can see me having to go instore! :D
    Answer:
BTW....they have some gorgeous heels on the homepage - anyone seen them instore - can't seem to find them online
    Answer:
Their website is a bit crappola IMO, totally unrepresentative of what they have in store... and I think you're more often than not better off shopping in store than online with them anyway.
I have often seen stuff in-store, and never see it on the website. The stuff on there is fairly limited I think.
    Answer:
Yeah I love RL but I prefer going to the one in Lakeside rather than shopping online. It's well laid out and I always find the type of stuff I'm looking for. They seem to set it out that casual clothes are laid on one side of the store, and a wall divides it to all the dressy clothes. It's always tidy and organized as well so yeah I much prefer shopping in store.
They have been great for ages, now they are getting some recoginition! They were in Heat's hot meter thing this week. I love all their slouch jeans in particular, so comfortable!

    Vintage looking leather jacket
I'm looking for one of those leather jackets, that are vintagey looking, tight fitting sometimes with knitted collar and waist band. In wine, black or bown. Sorry if haven't described it properly but I keep seeing them in people but never in an actual shop!
Can't even find a photo anywhere on net to post a similar pic
    Answer:
Where do you live Twinkle? There's a great shop on Holloway Rd, next to the Uni. they do fab 2nd hand leather jackets/coats full length/short - all kinds.
    Answer:
    They're called leather bomber jackets.
THey have been popular in many different decades so I'd recommend Ebay to find one.
    Answer:
I was searching high and low for one of these before christmas and now have 2!! I luckily managed to get a tan coloured one from Urban Outfitters, which is perhaps worth a try? Also worth a mention is New Look. They sell these bomber style leather jackets which are real leather for only £50!! I bought a chocolate brown one and it's a really nice soft leather.
    Answer:
I'm in Dublin but most of the UK shops are here too. Was trying to find one online but to no avail yet.
Don't want a second hand one though, want a new one I've seen people wearing them

    Fishnet tights for taller women
Does anyone know where i can get fishnet tights that will fit. I am 5 10 and every pair i buy end up being far too short. I really want a pair to wear to a party at the weekend with a black fishtail skirt.
Any ideas? I have already looked on mytights.com and they do tights for taller women but not fish net.
    Answer:
According to the MS site their Large size should fit someone 5"10 - 6" and a size 10-14.

    Wedding Season begins already...advice please!
Right, I need wedding outfit advice please!!
I'm going to be starting the shop for 'The' wedding outfit that I'm hoping I can wear to all three weddings I'm invited to between now and May so I need advice please!!
One is just an evening do and the other two are the whole day, both in the one venue so no changing in between.
I'm fairly curvey (size 12/14) so don't do dresses too well (big boobs/hips, thin waist dilema!) but really quite fancy something pretty rather than a boring 'trousers and top' type thing.
Does anyone have any idea what 'The Wedding Outfit' this year is gonna be and how can I make it my own?!?!
    Lots of suggestions please!!
    Ta!

    Answer:
    Hi Laura
I'm completely out of suggestions but I share your confusion. I'm getting married in August this year and I have to sort my dear mum out as she (very occasionally) has the tendancy to go a bit old-fashioned. :o
We're going to start at Hobbs and Whistles and there are a few boutiques around that were going to try. Not sure of your age but I doubt you're the same age as Mummy Toosh! Depending on budget why not try Coast, Next, Zara????
    Answer:
    Thanks Toosh!
I'm only 28 so something funky is what I'm after - I'm a jeans, pumps and customised top type of person generally but wanted something a bit more glam and sophisticated for the weddings, unfortunately as I'm more of a casual funk whenever I do try to do sophisticated I always end up looking like someone dressing up in mummy's clothes!!
Thanks for the ideas for shops though - might have a scout round Bluey at the weekend and then come back and run some suggestions past you guys and see what you think!!
    Cheers!
