O/T - Anyone good with Maths?

NO.1. Ask :
O/T - Anyone good with Maths?
Maths has never been a strong point of mine.

All my friends know what percentage they have to get in their exams to pass the first year. My course is ridiculous in terms of tution and the advice etc they give, so I have no idea.

The unit my exam is on is divided into two sections
Assignment - 20% which I got 53% or 54% in (2:2)
And the exam - 80%

We need to get 40% to pass anything (but Im figuring this is usually worked out from 100% IYSWIM?)

I've worked out I need to get from this about 32%? My housemate reckons 60%?

Or is it just a safe 40%?

If anyone could help, I will love you forvever!
Answer:
I think you need 36.5% in the exam (37% rounded up)
You need 40% overall to pass. You've got 54% which is 20% of the total and therefore one fifth of the overall course.
one fifth of 54% = 10.8%.
So to pass you need 40%-10.8% = another 29.2%
The exam is 80% of the total therefore to end up with 40% you need 29.2% from 80%, which I calculate to be 36.5%.
I think this is right. I used to waste so much time doing calculations like this when I should have been revising!!
Answer:
Thanks Tillypants! You've seen through me, Im doing everything I can to put off revision :o Im going to a chinese all you can eat in half hour, I seem to think it will help me motivate myself to then go to the library and spend all day in their revising  We shall see how sucsessful that is.

Just wanted to check my housemate was not right and I didnt need 60% as I know that is impossible. :o
Answer:
Okay - I think I can help.
You got 54% in your coursework, which offered a max of 20%.
Therefore you have 54% of a possible 20%, which translates to 10.8%.
This follows that you need a total of 29.2% to meet a minimum pass of 40%.
So you need 29.2% out of 80%, which translates to 36.5 marks out of 100.
This assumes that your final exam is marked out of 100, if its 80 you need 29.2 marks.
HTH!
Edited because I don't know when to let go of the shift key!!
Answer:
Does your course require a minimum of 30% from the exam, but an overall minimum of 40% to get a pass?
That what the first two years of mine was like, but I'm not sure about the honours courses, still only need 40% to pass and get a 3rd though, which I still think seems rather low! Not that I'm complaining!

Just in case any of you are in the London area, and are interested in meeting Gok Wan (and looking at lovely undies!)

    Answer:
My boyfriend used to work with him in a call centre (he also used to fancy my boyfriend  )
    xx
    Answer:
    I think he's great, I wish I could go
    Answer:
I love him too, he's much nicer than that nasty Nicky Hambleton-Jones off 10 Years Younger. I also love Rigby and Peller (the Queen gets her smalls from there!) so if I was nearby, I would definitly go.:D

I know what you mean about old Hambleton-Jones - she is an old baggage and don't get me started on that straw/hair of hers!! :faint: I love Gok and I feel sure I could get my kit off in front of him as I know he could make me look fab!!
Slightly OT - but I got measured in that branch of Rigby and Peller and it changed my life - I came out wearing a correctly fitting bra and I looked about 3 stone lighter, my boobs looked fab and my back ache started to go!!

    Juicy Couture Tracksuit
I am thinking of getting a Juicy Couture tracksuit, and I know comments have been made about them being tacky and chavy, but I think they look soooo comfy for travelling etc.
I was just wondering how the sizes came up are they small and what is the legnth like in the trousers as I have longish legs?
    Thanks Em
    Answer:
 I am a 10 in most shops and my juicy bottoms are size "small". They fit perfectly. I have the cargo pants version. They are quite long, I think probably 34in. I could be talking rubbish :o but could easily check tonight when I am back home. And you are right, they are really comfy for travelling.

    Hope that helps a bit.
    Answer:

I like them too :D They are quite long legged and I would say a small is about right for a size 8-10 and medium for 12-14 and large 14+

    Answer:
hmm i find them really short and i always get annoyed with them swinging around my ankles :cmdunno: i'm about a 34" leg.
    Answer:
See I told you I was probably talking rubbish on the length :D

I am 5ft5 and i find them long but I am not exactly a tall and amazonian lady :p

    ideas anyone? :heyhey:
    Answer:
oh, come on, some of you must have ideas for us baggers on the wrong side of 30 who dont look like kate moss, on what we should wear to look fashionable yet not too ageing hippy/fashion victim at this years round of summer parties and outdoor music gigs.:heyhey:
    Answer:
I actually think that the current trend for smock tops over skinnies works for 'older' baggers (your words not mine!). And some funky wellies!
    Answer:
oh not on me they dont! smocks with my boobs make me look like a 9 month pregnant lady, and if I belt them I look like dolly parton on an off day!:D :D :D
    Answer:
I don't know if I qualify as an 'older bagger' - I'm 32. I go to a lot of indoor and outdoor gigs and a festival every summer. I haven't changed my style of dress at them as I have got older, but it is just my style ifswim. Not terribly adventurous I may add, but skinny jeans and a longline t-shirt or vest top (preferably with a quirky pattern), a parka and Converse would be my staples. And sometimes a little neckscarf. Sunnies are a must (boo hiss I need prescription ones). I sometimes wear leggings instead of the jeans. For the festivals I always add a pair of patterned wellies and make sure I have my waterproof coat and trousers at the ready. Not attractive but often needed!
