Knee high boots, but not black

NO.1. Ask :
Knee high boots, but not black
Since you were all so nice about my legs last week and I wore a really short skirt (shorter than the one in the photo I showed you all ) at the weekend, and got compliments, I've decided to wear skirts more often.
I have one pair of black knee-high boots which are grand, but I fancy an alternative in another colour. Thing is, all the boots I've seen that aren't black are brown, which wouldn't go with any of my clothes. My wardrobe is almost entirely black/white/grey with denim, purples, blues and the odd bit of red.
So ladies, what colour of boots should I be going for? I was thinking a kind of burgundy colour, but I've got a beautiful burgundy long leather trench coat and I suspect it'd be difficult to match.
Also any suggestions of where to look for boots would be great. I'm a right pain for knee-high boots, cause I've got kinda chunky calves and rather long legs, so lots of boots don't reach my knees. I also can't wear heels higher than about 2.5".
Any ideas? (And yeah, I know it's a long shot :()
Answer:
but but but brown goes with everything!!! alternatively, tan would work too but the weather's a bit crap for it now...
Answer:
Hi
I've just got some dusty pink ones which go well with grey/blues/blacks and from Clarks of all places!
I know they sound dodgy but I've had lots of compliments about them and they're fairly comfortable to wear. They're about £40 and a kind of microfibre fabric with no zips or anything, just pull up ones, 3"ish heel.
My legs are far from thin (size 14/16) and got quite 'solid' from using a treadmill, and they fit comfortably and easily round my leg.
Try them and see what you think?
The website is done in flash so I can't post the url here but if you go to http://www.clarks.co.uk and they're in the womenswear/boots/formal section.

but but but brown goes with everything!!!
Really? The last brown thing I wore was a Brownie uniform, circa 1988, which I hated with a passion I cannot convey.
I've got so used to just wearing cool colours that the idea of wearing brown with them would be a bit weird. But I shall try on brown boots next time I go shopping and see how it goes :stillslightlyunsuresmilie:
Minxy - I had a look at the clarks website and the pink ones you suggested look a bit high in the heel for me, but there are some flatter dark pink suede ones that I might try on when I go shopping.
Answer:
Yup, agree with annanas - do for deep chocolate brown which is almost as versatile as black but a lot less obvious.

try here
I've never tried them, but last time I browsed it looked good!!
Answer:
Nothing useful to add... but the stuff in that link is a total ripp off... The dresses for £60 cost about £15 in Hong Kong and the shops are still making a profit! Although I do realise it's not practical or cheap for you to go to hong kong just to get a dress like this.
That's a pretty good site actually... I have about 3 mandarin tops (£8 each in hong kong - the site is £35!) and I hope to get some more when I go back.
I have noticed though that the dresses only go up to size 16 - i'm also pretty sure that i've not seen anything in hong kong OTS in less than a size 14-16.
What about having one custom made? I have seen in pattern books you can buy a pattern for this style dress - only means having to source your own fabric though and could work out quite expensive.
I've also just noticed that the link lomie gave has a shop in Colindale... I know where that is! Was down shopping in oriental city supermarket the other week.

Hunting for....
A top which seems to be waaaay out of style at the moment!
I am looking for a plain black kind of gypsy style top - the kind that is off the shoulders so it is straight across the upper arms and chest. But not baggy or frilly.
It seems that everything at the momnet is baggy and frilly and rouched! I have tried most of Oxford st already.
It is part of a kind of fancy dress outfit so doesnt need to be excellent quality.
Any ideas?
kind of like this...
Thanks very much!
Answer:
Doh. Picture doesnt work.
Maybe this one....
Answer:
This comes in black but it may be a bit too frilly for you.
Answer:
Hmm - not bad, but you are right - I could do without the flower and frills.
Would also prefer some kind of stretchy/lycra kind of fabric.
Damn being able to imagine the perfect thing!
Answer:
But you did give me the idea of looking in catalogues! This might do the job if the bow comes off!
Thanks!

Gypsy Skirts
Ok, I would never have thought I'd like these, but a few which I've seen - especially some in french connection - are really nice. I like the tiered jersey ones, I'm not a big fan of patterned ones or ones with frilly bits...
Anyone else liking them?
What are you thinking of wearing them with?
I can see myself in one with just flipflops and a t shirt in the summer, but what else do you think can they be worn with which is a bit less beachy and maybe a bit warmer??!
Answer:
I've been wearing mine with layered tshirts. But I always feel stuck with the bottom half - I've been wearing flat balerina shoes. I think they would look nice with the right pair of boots - but not sure what style - I think with cowboy boots they could look a bit too Texas..............
Answer:
I think alot of them are really nice... but i'm thinking there are so many of them around now they're going to go the same way the poncho did last year... although probably not as nasty looking as some poncho looks went.
I'd also like to wear them, but everytime I try one on I feel totally swamped.
Answer:
Oooh, ballet pumps, what a good idea.
Do you really think they might become as ubiquitous as ponchos though? Hmm.
I quite fancy buying a plain one and putting something on it to customise it... I've never done that before though..... We'll see!
Answer:
I have a gooooorgeous knee-length plain khaki one which I bought from New Look, and I don't care if they do go the way ponchos did I'm still gonna be wearing mine cos I *heart* it!
I'm planning on wearing it with either some white sequinned flip-flops, or silver ballet pumps. Tops-wise, I'm thinking funky T-shirts, 'Kate' type vest tops (would look really nice with a white one. I've also tried it on withthis top (purple mock-layered v-neck top with lace and sequins round neckline, with white 'cami' underneath showing at neckline and hem), and it looks really nice, dresses it up a little. If I wanna wear it while the weather's still cold, it looks quite cool with a black cord blazer.
