Help - I need a fabulous dress!
Hi everyone
I'm going to a ball this weekend and need a stunning dress. I would like something floaty and fairy-like - a real head-turner. If anyone knows of anywhere online that would be fab as I have exhausted all shops in my area!
Thanks so much :)
Answer:
Have you tried Bernshaw?

Answer:
How about Monsoon?
Their s/s collection doesn't look that great at first glance, but they do have some pretty floaty dresses.

HELP!!! What shoes with (just above ankle) length Cord skirt
I'm so confused HB'rs
I've bought 2 lovely skirts from primark
1 cream and 1 Pinky purple.. I'm going to wear the skirt with a slash neck black top.. I have to say it looks lovely - Very feminine(Just what i want) but seriously don't know what shoes to wear with them..
Any ideas
I'd be so grateful
My ideas are
Knee length Boots (as skirt is just above the ankle but should they be pointy
Or will I buy some nice open toe shoes the same colour as the skirt (expensive option)
I have some black indian slipper shoes (but I look short)
Help me please

Re: HELP!!! What shoes with (just above ankle) length Cord skirt
Mmm, I know the skirts - was pawing them recently but managed to resist. Just.
Knee-length boots are fine - I don't think they need to be pointy at all. For the summer, open-toed wedges or shoes would look lovely. If you wear them with black, neutral shoes (or in the same colour as the skirt) might be best, but I also think contrasting colours such as aqua or pale blue would look nice too!
I'm always a bit wary of flats with long skirts, unless you have baby giraffe-esque limbs and are very tall. This is just Little Miss Short-Legs talking though, so if they look good with the skirt, then ignore me!

I'd wear the birkenstock clogs I've been eyeing up... but maybe that's too 'heavy'?
Answer:
Well I sort of wanted to continue with the feminine classy look... I'm a size 10/12 and I always have a problemw ith the shoe thing... and so can't afford to buy any new ones..
Tried ankle length Boots thinking the top bits wouldn't be visible but I look so frumpy....
Is there a web site that shows how outfits can be co-ordinated.. I know of street style and style diary but I can't see my outfit

....where I will have to wear suits all the time :( :( :( :( :(
My style is a bit boho/quirky....I don't want to lose my identity in suits really. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can wear a suit to work but still make it me??
Answer:
One word for you - accessories!
Funky shoes, bright tops, unusual jewellery, nice bags, belts, scarves etc etc etc. Even the plainest suit can be made to look cool and quirky with a bit of thought.

Me too!
I was just about to post something identical!!!
I too will be a suit from September, and I'm in exactly the same position - quirky (not to say mad) personal style which I don't want to lose entirely. At least we have a dress-down Friday...
My ideas so far (views on them, and any other siggestions are welcome, she says, hijacking away):
I can't do anything about the suit/shirt/smart jumper combo, so it has to be accessories. So far:
-- Long slim scarves (maybe with an unusual print) worn instead of a belt
-- Funky yet elegant jewellery
-- Smart shirts or jumpers with subtle and unusual detailing - even going for things like ballet-wrap jumpers or something other than the standard V-neck will help me
-- Smart shoes or boots in unusual colours or detailing
Something like:
Vintage-look colourful Mary Janes with a smart skirt and either a gorgeous crisp white shirt or a nice jumper
Suit, red shoes, slim red scarf or belt and/or red here.
So really what I'm after is elegance with a twist. Cue muchos shopping, I fear, and a lot of frustration!
I'll be working in the financial sector so I really don't know if I can get away with this - my impression from the company was that anything from suits with bright T-shirts or shirts to smart skirts and jumpers is OK...

Interesting thread - I too will be a suit from September and need similar ideas, but for different reasons as my style can border on the conservative at the best of times so I need to make sure that I don't look boring!
Other than to accessorise (as the others say) I was thinking of how to make the tailoring more interesting. I already have a couple of very classic suits which I can work on the accessories with, but places like Oasis do suits which are a bit more up to date with interesting details that won't blow the bank!
Other than that - perhaps have a look back over the What are you wearing today thread for some inspiration from Mrs XXX!
Answer:
I like the idea of wearing scarfs as belts. I have hundreds of bright shoes and bags to wear so I guess I will have to get some more earrings etc as well....
I wonder if I could get away with wearing brooches in my hair like clips? I have bra strap length straight blonde hair and I hate putting it all up but leaving it all down can look a bit scruffy.....
Zara Sizing
NO.4. ask :
Zara Sizing
Hmmmmm.....
Yesterday after almost bashing down the door of Harrods when I realised they'd stopped sunday opening, I decided to have a look at Zara's new stock.
They've got some great stuff and I got quite excited, until I tried to find my size.
Not only were there no smalls, they do not stock size small in most of their ranges.
Apparently (acccording to the SA) we British women are so much larger than our European counterparts that they don't even stock a size small over here.
Now I am small, but I'm not tiny - I see many many people who are much shorter / slighter than me - and yet they don't cater for anyone small than a large 10/12.
So if you are a size medium - go to Zara they've got really beautiful stuff - if you're not - don't waste your time.
A very peeved......

Hi Mimi,
Interesting - I have bought several tops in a size small from Zara, is this a recent policy do you know?
I was in there at the weekend and tried on some jeans - couldn't get a size 10 over my behiond, although I own trousers and skirts from them in 10s and 8s. I tried a pair of cropped jeans that, when the crotch seam reached my crotch, the rest of them only just covered my muff - what is up with that?
I don't know who they make clothes for, but I'm not sure it's accurate to say British women (of the demographic Zara is aimed at) are bigger than their Spanish counterparts. I think that's just a lie to cover up the fact that they can't seem to get any consistency in their sizing.

Re: Zara Sizing
How annoying  I was going to go and buy work stuff there!
Having said that, I'm small too (size 8 normally), but I have a lovely coat from Zara which is a medium, and it's definitely snug on me. I thought most of their medium stuff looked pretty small when I was in - here's hoping that is the case, because there are loads of lovely things in there.
Humph. Unfair anyway. I shall have to go to Spain and buy everything there.

Answer:
I have been told before that certain styles do not come in a small - eg. the jacket I was after for months in the winter, but I have bought a couple of small jackets myself in the past.
However they had just got in loads of brand new summer stuff (so it can't have all fone) and the staff said the new styles just didn't come in a small.
I did try on a dress from the basics range that was a small and that fitted really nicely, but it was the only one I could find.
Even the little vintagey jacket I liked only came in a medium and it was bloody huge.
Oh well, they won't be getting the £200 I could have happily spent in there!

I've stopped going into Zara because I've never managed to find anything to fit me (I'm a 12/14).
I feel like a right old fatso in there struggling to do coats and jackets up...
