Common Bile Duct

Ask:
Common Bile Duct
I've been having pain in my right side after I eat. The pain gets worse while laying down. I had my Gallbladder removed about 5 years ago. I've been having gas problems with alot of diariea right after I eat. Stools have been dark at times. The past month my digestive has been very slow. Sometimes I can eat for 4 or 5 days and not go to the bathroom and my stools have been light in color. I had an Ultrasound done:
Report from Ultrasound:
"Gallbladder Ultrasound- The right upper quadrant was examined with the
real-time machine.
There is surgical absence of the gallbladder. The common bile duct is at
the upper limits of normal for size, measuring 10.5 mm in diameter near
the hepatic hilum and 8 mm in diameter at the level of the head of the
pancreas. There is no dilatation of the intrahepatic biliary system. No
other unusual findings are demonstrated.
OPINION- Previous cholecystectomy. The common bile duct is at the very
upper limits of normal for size a described above. No other unusual
findings."
What has caused my duct to be large and should I be worried. I haven't heard from my Doctor sience the Ultrasound. I'm haveing my Colon checked at the end of this month.
I have more Images if you woul d like to see.
Thanks, Terry

Common Bile Duct
Upper limits of normal is still normal. I'm not sure this has anything to do with your symptoms. Of course, I only have limited information and cannot say anything for sure, so you'll need to ask your own physician for advice. I'm not an expert on gastroenterology so I don't know what is the usual appearance of the bile duct after gall bladder surgery, so it may well be that your common bile duct size is normal for a postoperative situation - ask your surgeon! I'm happy that you are being followed up and scheduled to have your colon checked. Keep us posted, thanks for your question.
