Breathing Problems/Hiatic Hernia

Ask:
Breathing Problems/Hiatic Hernia
My mom has been having trouble breathing when she goes up the stairs recently. She feels like she can't get enough air at all, and has to take a break on her way up sometimes. She used to use the stairs for exercise. This problem happened suddenly.
She doesn't have any heartbeat irregularities when this happens.
She is 156 pounds, 5 ft. 7, and is 63 years old.
She has a large hiatic hernia. I have read that some people experience difficulty breathing/shortness of breath after eating with one of these hernias. This specific problem is not something she experiences, but perhaps her hernia has something to do with this.
Her doctor says that there's nothing that can be done to correct the hernia. I have heard that surgery is available for severe cases, and hers qualifies: her stomach has been turned upside down by it. She has been getting frequent diaphram pain for awhile. Strangely, she doesn't get much in the way of acid ingestion. I also heard that her hernia has been getting worse. How is this? I thought that these hernias are worsened by acid indigestion.
Can someone please tell me what they think about this? I'm particularly concerned about the breathing problems and the question about surgery.
Thank you very much!

Heres a link regrding :

It does mention breathing problems and surgery. I'm not the Dr. but if her symptoms continue they need to addressed. Go with your mom to the Dr. and discuss these things.
