About three days ago, I was playing with a friends dog and when the dog jumped up to get the ball out of my hand he scraped my wrist with his tooth. The scrape was very minor, didn't bleed or appear to break the skin. It did scab over. I don't have any pain, redness, swelling, tingling or anything else that would indicate an infection. The dogs owners said he had all his shots but couldn't provide any proof. He didn't attack me or show any "suspicious" behavior. A couple of days later though, he went to a new home so I don't know how he's doing now. I was wondering if I need to get a rabies shot for something so minor and with the dog being apparently healthy? Any help is appreciated.

*i'm not a doctor* but i do know that dogs or any other animal with rabies exhibit strange behavior and can foam at the mouth. they can be agressive if they are usually calm, and vice versa.i would check with your doctor just to be sure, and heres a link on rabies that i found, hope it helps.

good morning kate
how do you feel, well, i hope?
i don't know what state you live in, but in regard to rabies, last time i heard anything about rabies was 33 years ago, as for proof of shots, you could find very easily by asking the owners the name of the animal vet, and call and ask about the dog's records. did the dog have a license. here in CA you have to have a license, but you can only get a license if you dog has all their shots. but a few slip through the cracks,
such as my neighbor dog that bit me(
(F Y I a while back i had two headless
nails shoot clean through my hand, another time i broke my hand in 7 places
2 weeks went by before i seen the doctor
he rebroke it 5 times more, none of the
above HURT as much as a dog bite,
an it was a miniature doberman) i
didn't even ask about shots, but ive never
known/heard of any kind of sickness
in regards to the dog that bit me, but if
you get a high temperature, or feel any
different that normal get check, go to an emergency room and tell them about the dog bite
good luck, have a great day.

Thanks for the replies! I got the vaccination record of the dog, he had been vaccinated for everything EXCEPT rabies. So, I went to the urgent care doctors, they said they didn't know anything about rabies and couldn't assess if I should seek further treatment or not and they called the health department. I'm still waiting to hear from them. I should note that I wasn't actually bitten, the dog's tooth just barely, and I mean barely, scraped my hand. I have a tiny little scab but I don't think the dogs tooth actually punctured my skin just scratched it. I always thought you had to actually be bitten by a rabid animal, with deep puncture wounds, to get rabies. Thanks again for everyone's help though, I appreciate it.
