pain after gall bladder removal

Ask:
pain after gall bladder removal
I had my gallbladder removed 8 wks ago. I have been having pain in liver area for 3 wks. I had a CAT scan that showed a small amount of fluid near bottom of liver. Dr in ER said my liver ducts were dilated but my surgeon didn't think so. At one point I was running fever with chills. Given antibiotic. Fever gone but pain persists. All bloodwork normal. Should I be worried ? I have just a dull constant pain for a few days then it will get intense for several days. When it is bad walking, breathing any jolt or pressure intensifies the pain.

Hi melanny,
Sorry to hear of your symptoms now 8 weeks post op. Interesting disagreement between your surgeon and the ER physician regarding this fluid and your liver. I don't know if you had open surgery or laparoscopic. There are complications sometimes of nicking other organs during this operation, like the common bile duct or hepatic duct. Also if the person is obese makes it hard for clear seeing all the time. At any rate you may search the complications of this surgery via the search tool.
I would speak with the surgeon and ask to to clarify why the er doc was stating the liver and ask him to explain to you in english so you understand. I would next ask him if he could of nicked something during the surgery. He needs to address this and find out why the fluid is there ( is it supposed to be?) and treat it so you can recover. If he doesnt explain to your satisfaction and you are continuing to feel bad I would see another dr. These nicked organs can be dangerous. Follow up with him and put him on the line. Good Luck,

Thanks for reply. My surgery was laparoscopic and I weigh 90 lbs. Surgeon said ER Dr inexperienced. Learning hospital. He said next step to go back in and look around. Would bile duct injury show on CAT scan? Also I am not jaundiced. At this point only symptom is pain and fatigue.
