FNA RESULTS ON THYROID NODULE

Ask:
FNA RESULTS ON THYROID NODULE
I received my FNA lab results back and the diagnosis: benign appearing follicular cell present admixed with macrophages and scant colloid. ADENOMATOUS NODULE.
The nodule is 1.9 cm.
My doctor referred me to a Endocrinologist who said everything looks good. I have read on the internet that a FNA biopsy cannot distinguish between follicular ademona and follicular carcinoma.
Am I ready the results wrong or should I go to another doctor? ???
Thank you.

Hi Texasmom,
I know that most adenomatous nodlues are benign. I'm not an expert, but I think the fact that both the FNA came back as "benign appearing" and your endocrinologist agrees that its benign, is probably a good thing. If you're concerned, however, by all means discuss it with your doctor. You can ask him specifically about the differentionation between follicular ademona and carcinoma, as I'm not qualified to comment on that. Best of luck and keep us posted!
