I wanted to ask what effect a certain kind of breathing would have on the blood flow in the brain. I have had a very odd breathing pattern for 9 years starting from tension. Essentially it began having a conscious breathing pattern whereby I was not breathing automatically but rather being conscious of my breath going in and out, which then evolved very quickly to continously inhaling deeply, holding my breath, and exhaling very little and very slowly to disguise abdominal distension from IBS, always being very pale in the mornings from inhaling too much and presumed lack of blood flow to the brain, sometimes being flushed in the face / sometimes having red ears and sore ears, sometimes lightheaded when standing up, veins being very prominent and then sometimes not there at all, would this effect blood flow in the brain or body or cause irregularities in the brain or body?

This sounds very tiring to me. You say breathing pattern from tension. Such breathing patterns from stress like hyperventilation etc. can cause many symptoms and changes in the brain as many people can pass out during this. Same goes for panic attacks. You state also because of ISB you are deliberatly holding your breath and releasing slowly. Sounds like alot of trouble to me. If you are having panic attacks or alot of stress there are medications that can be prescribed, also bio-feedback techniques are very helpful or if you notice yourself getting out of control try some pursed lipped breathing and consentrate mentally to slow your rate down. Breathing should be natural unless you have a disease process that doesn't permit proper breathing and exchange of gases, meaning C02 and 02. You can only hold your breath for so long. The long term effects of this up and down breathing and breath holding I can not say as I'm not a Dr. Slow breathing is calming and they say can lower blood pressures etc.
I would suggest if you have a panic disorder or undue stress you find better ways to deal with this by seeing your Dr. Also do all your Dr. prescribes for ISB and be comfortable in your own skin and breath. Alot of people would love to be able to breath effortlessly. I hope you can be one of these persons.
