Can't understand why I keep getting sick

Ask:
Can't understand why I keep getting sick
I got the flu back ON December 21st and I went to the doctor and I was given tamiflu then about a week later I started being stopped up and congestive and I went back to the doctor and I was told that I had a upper respiratory infection and they give me cough medicine and told me that was all that they could do because antibiotics don't touch this stuff. I have coughed for the last two weeks and sometimes to the point that I have to sit up in bed. Today I started getting a cold and aching all over. I'd would like to know why I seem to be getting sick all the time.

Hi mlane050263,

I'm sorry you've been feeling badly. Being sick can be frustrating, especially if it lingers for awhile. Winter is a prime time for getting sick. If you have a virus, which your doctor seems to think you do, it is very difficult to treat. Antibiotics won't help because they only work for bacterial infections, and they will like do more harm than good if you don't have one. If you continue to feel bad, I would recommend seeing your doctor. He can at least recommend medications to treat the symptoms while the virus passes on its own, or run more tests if he feels its warranted. Be sure to get plenty of rest and wash your hands frequently. Hope you start feeling better and keep us posted.
