Ask:
Pressure/pain in chest after eating
Hi Doctor Joshua,
I am a 20 year old female, generally healthy(i think) pretty good diet and take a walk everyday for exercise. I weight 8stone10pounds (or 122lbs), 5 foot 6 inches in height and used to be a light smoker, (3-5cigarettes a day for about a year, but been quit for about 4 years now)
Over the last 2-3 weeks after almost every evening meal i am experiencing chest pressure/uncomfort in the centre and sometimes over the left side of my chest. My heart seems to beat slightly harder too, though at normal speed still. It kind of feels like trapped gas i cant get rid of, and sometimes hurts quite sharply when i breathe in. Usually lasts between 30Min's-1hour, and i wake up the next day feeling perfectly fine.
Please can i hear your view on this as its starting to worry me as my on-line search brings up Angina! :S and i cant get to my GP for another week! :(
Thanks
Magenta

At 20, it's highly unlikely that you have angina, but any persistent chest pain symptom needs to be evaluated, so it's a good think you've got the appointment. It's probably harmless, but it's always good to be certain.
