Blood discharging from the nipple??

Ask:
Blood discharging from the nipple??
I am terrified and have no idea if this is normal. I am 28 years old and since I have had kids I've always had some discharge from my nipples that gets heavier around the time of my period but yesterday I was doing my monthly self exam and found blood coming from my nipples instead. I have made an appointment with my doctor but I am very scared. Everything I find online about that symptom points to cancer. Is there anything else that it could be besides that? Please tell me it could be something else!! :'(

Hi nordicdaughter,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but the good news is that, statisically speaking, it is most likely something other than cancer. Its a good thing you're going to the doctor to get this checked out, though. While cancer is a possibility, bloody discharge is most often caused by infection, hormonal changes, or benign conditions. If you have discharge coming from both nipples and not just one, it is even more likely that cancer is not the cause. Here is the website from which I got that information: . You can also run a google search using the box in the upper left column. Best of luck and keep us posted.

I guess it is important to note that it is only coming from one nipple, the left and other symptoms are also associated with it like a deep itching which has been going on for 4 months or so but I never associated it with anything until I had the discharge and now I notice that those go hand in hand with dry skin which I've also experienced. I don't want to self diagnose and trust me I am hoping for something other than the worst possible things going through my mind right now! Thanks for the response.
