Severe Pain in right leg after Heart Cath

Ask:
Severe Pain in right leg after Heart Cath
Dear Dr Joshua
I had a heart cath and an angioseal closure device on Sept. 6th. 2006 ever since I have been looking for a diagnoses. I have severe right groin to inner thigh to knee pain.
I cannot walk without limping because of the pain. I can't go upstairs without being in severe pain.
I have no pain when I am sitting or laying down. Just when I get up from the chair or bed to walk I am in severe pain.
I have had 3 ultrasounds-no clot, I have had a nerve induction test- the doctor told me I had a neropathy but the report he sent my doctor said no problems?????
I have had a CT scan w/without contrast- didn't show anything.
I am desperate what this is Please help me I am 53 and never had any leg problems before this now I am a cripple. I can't go excercise or walk anymore because of pain and the doctors here are so scared to prescribe pain medicine it is rediculous.
Another thing in my quest for a diagnoses I have come upon about 13 other women all with the same symptoms and the same closure device as me- Could it be the closure device??
Please answer my question Dr Joshua and whom ever else would know anything.
Bless You

Angioseal Closure device
Hello sheilapt;)
I just wanted to wellcome you to the forum. Sorry you are still having problems after some months. Its somewhat comforting thing to find others with your senario post this procedure but still doesn't explain why. I searched this device and find many success stories as well as many such as yours. Are you dealing with the Dr. or hospital that performed this procedure on you? Can you contact this Dr.? I would. I would let him know your symptoms, maybe he has had this with other patients. I'm sure they do some kind of reporting on these devices. Personally I think alot depends too on the skill of the Dr and how many times he has done this procedure. Sorry I can't help you , just hope you get some answers as this is not a very nice way to live.

sheilapt Hi thanks for answering. Yes I have contacted the cardiologist that did it and he couldn't find anything that could kill me- In other words nothing on tests- so he doesn't know what it could be.
So I went on a search for a diagnoses and I found a vascular doctor online who explained what he thought it was and he said it is "saphenous neuralgia"
and it happens sometimes after heart caths.
It will not show up on tests it is due to irration of a nerve in that area called the saphenous nerve.
It is sometimes seen after heart cath procedures . It is inflamation in the area is thought to irritate the nerve and cause symtoms of pain shooting down the leg.
Which is exactly what I have so I called my pharmacy and I had some anti-inflamortories refills left so I had a pharmacist fill it and I am going to get it in a little while.
I can't beleive something so simple so many doctors missed. It might be something else but I have nothing to lose. I hope Dr. Joshua reads this and if he has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
Stay well
