Ask:
Tonsillectomy Complications?
I am a 48 year old caucasion female in generallly good health. I had my tonsils taken out on 28 December 2006 and now have this sensation that there is something "stuck" in the back of my throat on the left side. I asked my doctor about it when I went in for my post-op follow up and he said that he had to cut into my soft pallate because my left tonsil was so large. He looked down my throat and said that he didn't see anything and told me that if I still had the feeling in a couple of weeks, I was to check back with him. I still have the sensation and now I seem to have sinus problems (excess drainage) to the point where it actually seems to block my throat, especially at night. I'm also snoring now and I never snored before the surgery. When I told my doctor's nurse about this, she told me to gargle with salt water and call back. I'm concerned about scarring (I am a keloid former) but no one else seems to be...should I see someone else, or should I even be concerned? Thank you.

Tonsillectomy Complications?
 Welcome Chris Hoover,
T & A's seem to be more difficult in adults, meaning healing and complications. Healing does seem to take alittle longer in adults. If you are having sinus/snoring now, and your worried about the scarring within your throat, maybe a referral to an ear, nose and throat dr would be able to better address your concerns. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I tried to respond yesterday but had problems with the forum. Purple Lady is spot on: See an ENT - it could be scarring, then again it could be something altogether unrelated such as chronic sinusitis.
