Ask:
Bladder or UTI? Diabetes? Hormones? Help!
Hi there. I'm new here so bear with me while I try to articulate what is wrong with me. Firstly, I gave birth to my second child 21 months ago, so I was a bit late (8 months) having a pap test as my doctor said it would be better to wait post-partum. Well, I've always had negative pap tests but that one came back positive CIN3 cervical dysplasia, which I had removed by laser-loop the beginning of last year, but I have since had two negative tests. Not sure if my problems now are connected to that or not, just thought I would mention it as it's the only "work" I've had done there and it's all I can think of as being the cause. Ladies, you know how when you're pregnant you get up 5 or 6 times a night to pee? Well, I feel like that constantly to the point where I don't sleep for more than two hours at night before I have to get up, and even then I'll urinate, get back into bed and then have to get straight back up and go again. It's like a feeling that my bladder is never emptied properly. So I'm also constantly tired, probably because I never get a good night's sleep but it's got to the point that I'm feeling vague and weak by mid-afternoon. I'm also hot all the time, like really sweaty and clammy. I stopped breastfeeding my son four months ago and have only been back on a full-strength contraceptive pill since then, but I stopped taking it about six weeks ago because we are trying to get pregnant again, and except for the initial bleed when I first stopped taking it I haven't had a period since. (Yeah, I know I've only missed one period and that's not abnormal but I thought I would mention it anyway). And no, I'm not pregnant, I've done 5 tests and they're all negative. My mum thinks it sounds like I'm going through early menopause but I'm only 28, and I'm not overweight - I'm 5'6" and weigh 60kg, though before my pregnancy I was 54kg and I haven't been able to lose the last six yet which are all around my mid-section. I wake up looking ok in the morning but after lunch I am so bloated I look like I'm pregnant. My doctor is on holiday until the end of May, so any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Xxander.

Hi Xxander,
I certainly couldn't guess which one of these conditions is. Do you have a fever along with feeling hot and clamy? You have the urgency to urinate and feel as though your bladder isn't empting. Even though you mention no pain etc., these new changes warrant being examined and tests done.
It would be a good idea even though your doc is away to be seen by another for prompt diagnosis esp. before you become pregnant again.
Good Luck,

I agree with PurpleLady. See the doctor. The most common reason is urinary tract infection, easily diagnosed and treated. I'm not a gynecologist, but at first it seems unlikely that this symptom is related to the procedure - however - have you had a follow-up PAP and what was the pathology report on the removed tissue? Are you being followed up for that?
I recommend that you see a gynecologist.

Thankyou to both Purple98Lady and Dr. Joshua for your replies, I've made an appointment with my gynecologist but I have to wait three weeks for that too. I had a PAP done three months after the laser procedure and another done six months after that and both of those came back negative. The gynecologist said he was happy and confident that he'd removed all of the pre-cancerous cells, and now he's put me back on yearly tests. He did say that it was strange that it had developed all the way to CIN3 in such a short period of time - my last test done about two and a half years before and all the other tests I've ever had have all been negative. The last test I had done was only about a month ago, and they were testing for HPV aswell but the results for that aren't back yet, apparently it takes quite a while for the lab to test for that. Doc said that if the HPV test is positive then I should go back onto six-monthly tests as I'd be more prone to cervical changes. Not sure about fever, Purple98Lady, maybe I do get fevers but I just think I'm really hot. And I do get a bit of pain but it's mostly just really uncomfortable, like when you're pregnant and they get you to drink a litre of water and hold it for an hour before an ultrasound, it's a bit like that. Hey here's something funny (or not, but sometimes you've got to laugh at yourself!), for me to get out of the house in the morning to take my boy to play group, I have to pee about every five minutes for the hour before we leave, then I'll go again just before we walk out the door, and no kidding by the time I've driven ten minues up the road I'm absolutely busting again! I know coffee doesn't help matters here being a diuretic and all but I just wouldn't function without my morning cuppa! It's got to the stage where I'm starting to think that maybe it's also becoming psychological, like I know that two minutes after I get into bed I'll need to go so I'll try to squeeze one out before I get into bed, even if I don't feel the need to go then. There must be a medical term for obsessive/compulsive urination, great, I'm a nutter too! Like I said, you have to laugh at yourself! Thanks again, Xxander.

I'm glad you made the appointment. What you describe is called urge incontinence, and you can find good info here:
