4 months stomach pain in 9 yr old boy
It started in Dec. then with vomiting for 2-3 wks, been to drs. ,ER, 3 or 4 times. He was tested for bacteria in stomach, bloodwork normal, tested for appx.- neg. Dr. gave him stool softener and said take this 4 months to get his bowels working. No fever but chills after bowel movement sometimes. Bowels moving nearly every day, sometimes a couple times a day with this med. My concern is this why the pain lasting, could there be something serious he's not been checked for? It is much worse evenings, when hungry. Starts in afternoon and builds all evening. He has started wanting to stay at home cause he feels so badly. When riding bike he gets tired and lays down in the driveway or where-ever. We are new to area and don't have a good Dr. yet but he was seen by a Peds Dr.

Sorry you son is having these problems with his bowels. If he is having regular bowel movements with this medication, maybe he too may have a stomach problem since you mention pain prior to eating. Its probably a good idea to get him seen to see if he can gradually wean from the medication if the dr. feels he is having good results and tell him about the stomach pains. Maybe a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist is in order.
Did the Dr. instruct you in a diet of fiber and liquids for constipation and does your son eat well? All things to discuss with and when you find a new dr. The sooner the better. Good Luck and let us know.
